  1. One of my caches has been pinged by health score. Is there a way to know which one?
  2. Thanks for responding. I also have other interests outside geocaching. Riding and restoring old MIJ motorcycles, restoring and playing old MIJ guitars and foil windsurfing.
  3. When my late wife and I discovered this pastime we were retired and in our early 60s and physically in good condition. My partner of 50 years passed away almost five years ago. Since then my involvement has somewhat wained, particularly the seeking side. I still maintain about eighty caches. I am now in my mid 70s and this is where the aging part of the topic comes in. As a seeker I now tend to restrict my geocaching to vacations in foreign countries or opportunistic finds in a place I might find myself and just wonder if there is a cache nearby. I no longer plan cache finding runs as I used to do. As a cache owner I now find my caching activity more and more affected by my physical condition. I am in good health but my feet are letting me down, both of them affected in various degrees by arthritis, rheumatoid and osteo, bursitis and, occasionally, gout (every couple of years). This means my walking is becoming more limited and I can no longer do long, walking, maintenance runs as I used to. Otherwise, aerobically, I could walk for miles. A lot of my caches are accessible by bike or car which is not a problem. So. I am now more reliant on finder logs for information and cache condition and veracity of finds. It's been a bit of a bummer lately with extremes in weather adding to the mix. Now, if there is a problem with a (series) cache, I would target just that one for maintenance whereas in the past, I would do a run on the whole series. Example two days ago I had a two kilometre walk on uneven, rough, eroded, bush tracks with some bush bashing ("fight" in orienteering terms) to place a new cache, a replacement for one in a series that kept disappearing. The walk was ok but my feet were quite sore afterwards. That night I was typing up the new listing when I found I had accidently deleted the coordinates from my Garmin. So yesterday I had to go back and get new coords. Overnight our area was hit again with torrential rain which made the trek back to the cache even more tricky. Sore feet again. (I need to find a more comfortable pair of hiking shoes). I can still climb trees but it's becoming more difficult. I have two tree caches, one of which needs checking (after two DNFs) but that's been put off due to rain - again - and there's been more rain today. I also have a few island caches one of which needs a new log but after a mountain bike crash I damaged a tendon in my right shoulder after which bursitis has set in which means it has become painfull to paddle my kayak. I feel I am getting closer to a point where I may have to reduce my cache holdings but people seem enjoy my caches so I'll struggle on while I can... Whoever said "youth is wasted on the young" was right.
  4. I've had pending caches archived, without notice, by a reviewer a couple of times. The last was a mystery but it was in a spot which compromised an existing D5 mystery. I had a sentimental reason for the spot I had chosen for my mystery but I had a suspicion it was close to the 161m of the D5. I thought my pending cache would be ok until I could solve the D5 and re-adjust my coordinates. As I suck at puzzles, I made almost no headway solving the D5 but I would periodically return to it. My cache was in place and was actually found by Lee737 IIRC. All came to an end when a reviewer archived it. I've now given up on it.
  5. Just remembered. Got this one in Aug 2016. It's only had 20 finds since 2014. A memorable bucket list experience. THE Alaskan Experience! Traditional Geocache GC5BHEG
  6. Looks like I may be doing the same trip this June. I have previously done the return by train to White pass but did not know about the desert. Friends we are cruising with have organised a coach tour to White Pass but I don't yet know the details. I'm just tagging along with three others (muggles) as I've done the Inside Passage cruise twice before. Another time in Skagway my late wife and I did the Grizzly Falls zip line tour. Fantastic.
  7. I visited it before it became an EC. I took lots of photos intending to do an EC but was beaten to it. My eldest son lives a few minutes down the road and works at Siding Springs observatory. There is so much ancient art work in Oz going back of thousands of years.
  8. Would this one add another country for you? Sandstone Caves EarthCache GC646XX
  9. Food. It's the one thing can we all enjoy. When travelling I'll try foods of different cultures - within reason. Street bratwurst in Germany, lamb terrine in Morocco, chilli crickets in Mexico. Some things can be a little odd like the best Yorkshire pudding I ever tasted was in Scotland and a goulash in Italy. Sorry about the OT. I do discuss politics with people I meet in other countries to learn and hear their views - without criticism. It helps me to better understand their way of life, again, without criticism.
  10. My last two country souvenirs was a return trip of over 22,000 miles or 36,000klms! Fortunately, finding the caches was a bonus not the sole reason for the trip.
  11. In my case possible harm to a series of 18 caches.
  12. There may have been a more correct thread for my above post however, I did a "scouts" search and this thread came up but I missed that it was the "irk" thread. The mention of scouts and caches does irk me a little.
  13. I'm more than a little envious that you can do these short trips to visit and collect countries. Not possible where I am. Good luck to you.
  14. Received this message a couple of days ago which, rightly or wrongly, sent shivers up my spine. Would appreciate suggestions on how to handle this one. "Regarding Bison Trail #15 (GC4R3RH): Hey colleda. I am a scout leader and am introducing my scouts to geocaching in a couple weeks and plan on having them walk this end of the bison trail. I have already found the majority of the caches on the bison trail but am having difficulty locating this cache. Any tips you can offer would be wonderful. Just want to know what I’m looking for before I bring the scouts out here" I checked "scout leader's" profile and he/she appears a legit geocacher - 500+ finds.
  15. How many more selfies until the CO starts deleting?
  16. I'd wait for the next logger for confirmation.
  17. I tried it. Typed Oberon, NSW and clicked on that from the drop down selection. The next page lists caches with two options "Add 95 to list" shown. Or, "Map Geocaches" which, if clicked, shows the town of Oberon and all its caches, about a dozen or so, mostly Mysteries.
  18. IIRC it's a kind of trackable given away at a Mega event a few years ago - 2018? lee will likely have a better idea though. I've got one lurking about the house somewhere.
  19. Wow. 100yds. I never knew. That's tiny.
  20. There is no best. To me it's just personal preference, whatever works for you. That's it! Whatever works for you is best.
  21. Any size for me so long as they have good coordinates, are accurately described and well maintained.
