  1. I haven't cached in a few years but I recall PQs being a little easier to do in the past. I created my PQ and it yielding in no results based on preferences I picked so I left the query form plain (default) setting and saved the query again which now shows results. How do I force the PQ to run so I can load it into my GPS now for a hike tomorrow? Do I really have to wait until tomorrow by checking off the day of the week (which would suck)?
  2. You are correct! There was a Twitter option on the profile page just below the "field notes" options but it is now gone and tweets no longer post when you find a cache (other than via the website I presume) because I use the app and it very much used to post to Twitter when I logged a find on the go. I thought it was a really neat feature which only gave a better awareness of GeoCaching so by not allowing us to spread the word via social networking only limits the audience reach in my opinion.
  3. Most I did was about 20 in a day but I prefer QUALITY over quantity. On my most finds in a single day I found caches with almost nothing and a log book. Sure I got the thrill of the find but if people are placing empty caches with logs for sheer numbers, it's just a waste for those that would have otherwise placed a quality cache with some goodies for the kids.

  5. Unacceptable! I expect a FULL refund! LOL! I'm totally busting chops. Please, no harm no foul. We survived without the "My Finds" query over the weekend. Worst case we would have had to go with paper caching this weekend. And I can wait for the next allowable my find query. No need to load your email boxes with a billion requests when I can wait for the automated response. The site rocks, I fully support it and will continue to do so.
  6. Makes sense. I just purchased another travel bug for the sole purpose of other cachers to discover it when we meet either on the trails or at an event. I had suspected the numbers had to be a purchased tag.
  7. I've met my share of cachers and noticed a cacher for the first time show me his GPS with number on it (not the typical format of a travel bug with letter & number combo). So I'm wondering, did the cacher simply make the numbers up? I know how TB's work but now I feel like I'm asking a dumb question, How do I get a trackable number for my GPS so that cachers I meet can log it? If I buy a TB and use it for that purpose I'm curious why this particular cachers numbers were just a general number format.
  8. I hate micros!! LOL! Yea, I've seen plenty of nice tree micros that use the bent wire hanger method and it's perfect. Those are actually pretty cool finds.
  9. I personally don't hold a TB of any kind longer than two weeks. If I can't get out again within two weeks of obtaining a TB I will deposit it at a local cache I've found in the past just so that the TB can keep moving.
  10. Typically, at least in NY, that kind of information can be obtained from the *county" assessors office. In my case, the county has an interactive GIS site which provides detailed tax parcel maps. I've seen at least one other county that had that information available online, and one that did not. Check out your county government pages and see if they have a "maps" area. This was super helpful, Thanks! I started checking other wooded areas I placed caches and all my caches are on "vacant" lands per the maps by the county GIS. The location however, that I wanted to put a cache does lead to vacant woodlands but a cacher would have to cross what is considered commercial land per the GIS map. I marked an "X" where a cacher would have to pass through with some bushwacking which indicates it's commercial land, even though the cacher would end up in vacant woodlands.
  11. How do those of you who place a cache figure out who the land owner is? What local authority do you contact to find out if the land is public, private or not owned? There is a spot I'd like to place a cache in the woods of an area near a local community of homes. The cache would not be near the homes, rather it would be placed across the road of the homes in the woods uphill on a very, very small mountain. I can't imagine homes being built in the small area because of the rocks but I want to make sure it's not town owned. Do you think the town or a private owner owns this small piece of mountain top that has not been commercialized? I'm not sure who I should call to find out. I search the forum but after 10 pages I didn't find an answer.
  12. When I plan my day I look at SO many caches & photos that by the time I get to the cache site I don't remember which photo was associated with which cache. If I have a hard time finding a cache and end up logging it as DNF, then I will look at the photos again looking for clues to help me on my next attempt. Otherwise spoiler photos normally don't ruin the experience for me. Personally I always take photos away from the cache spot. Even if the photo is right on the hide, I tell my family and friends to turn in a different direction so that a reader can't tell where the picture was taken exactly when they arrive.
  13. When you get your new GPS learn how to use it. Once you know how to use your GPS, get out and have fun! It's easier than you think, the hurdle is learning how to use your GPS if you've never used one.
