  1. It all makes sense now... Thanks
  2. If I understand correctly... 1. Geocoins can be used as a TB and be tracked from cache to cache. 2. A Canadian geocoin, like the one I picked up in a cache, has to be logged on geocoins.ca and I don't see it in my stats 3. If I pick up a coin in a cache, I should drop it somewhere else. Here's where I'm confused... How do people collect them? Do they buy some but they don't place them in caches? Do they trade them at events with other geocachers instead? 4.How do I know if it's trackable in the GC website? It should show up in the cache description? Then what... I log it just like a TB? Thanks
  3. I tried running the PQ for my found caches and it also shows that it has run a few days ago but I can't see the results page nor do I get an e-mail. This PQ seems very unreliable to date. Sometimes you get a result and an e-mail, sometimes you don't. Maybe I don't quite understand how the process works. I'm sure someone will be able to clarify soon
  4. It's a new Mapsource file with only the route I just created.
  5. The strange thing I noticed is that when I load the waypoints from the mapsource file, they show up in duplicate in the GSAK Window. If I run the filter at that point I get Crazy results. However, if I delete the duplicate waypoints, I get the results that I expected... Any comments???
  6. I did the route one aswell and was successful. I did the polygon one once without any problem. I don't understand this one.
  7. I used Mapsource to save a file of an outline around the Moncton, NB area. I traced a route, made sure my start point was also the end point. In GSAK filter, I used the load from file feature. I tried it three times, changing the waypoints in the route a few times and when I activate the filter, I get some waypoints as far as the Woodstock, NB area (approx. 200Km away). Help!!!
  8. Does the e-mail come in almost instantly, a few minutes or hours after running the querie. I tried my first one yesterday and almost instantly i received the ZIP file. This morning I tried another one, I got the results on the search page (wich download as a .loc file :-( ) but no zip file yet...
  9. Great! I was clicking on user profile which linked me to my Profile in GC.com and the time zone was correct there. However, every time I would post while having my morning coffee, It would show up as 4AM... I'm pretty obsessed with the sport but 4AM... I don't think so! Thanks Wildearth2001
  10. I was pretty sure getting a premium membership would do this for me but I was curious If I could do it with just a basic membership. I'll probably end up with a membership but I just like the challenge in understanding the way the software works... I Like CRON's suggestion but I thought I could not download a GPX File unless I had a Premium membership. If I download a .loc file by selecting the caches on GC.com when I load into GSAK I get the bare minimum (which I realize is part of the basic membership). My found caches don't come out yellow. I thought this is what CRON meant by updating GSAK... If I want to show my found caches in yellow or change the date that I found it or DNF it, I have to manually edit each cache separately.
  11. Anybody out there that can help???? Anyone???
  12. I'm new at this also since this Christmas and It's the best present ever... Actually I picked it out myself but not without doing a lot of reaserch over the internet. That's where I'd point you. My top pick was the Etrex Legend from Garmin. I have no regrets. The Map that comes with it is the North American Basemap wich is only the Major Highways & Citys. Small towns will be there as a dot etc. You should be able to purchase this unit for around 150$ US. You would probably want to purchase Mapsource software for city streets. I was able to find an enhanced canadian basemap on the internet for free. It's amazing the small dirt roads that are included. I don't know if there is a US version of this enhanced basemap. Also, you can always check out Google Earth, it's free and you can get a pretty good idea where the old roads are when you zoom in close enough and have placed the check mark in the left hand column in the proper place (Not sure how it's worded... you'll figure it out) Good luck & Have Fun!
  13. I don't know if this will be of any help to you in the UK but the One thing that FUGAWI does that my other software doesn't is the best feature of all... Visually speaking! If you click on the ? symbol that's on your Left hand side tool bar, your cursor will look like a question mark. Put your cursor wherever you want to go geocaching and do a right click. Your pop up menu will show: Find Geocaching sites. Select it and it will link you to the GC.com search page and show you the search results around the point you've just selected. COOL! Select the waypoints you want, click on download & Open and Voilà! They show up on your map. From that point you could print the map and bring it with you if you don't have mapping on your GPSr. The other neat feature, is now if you click on the Show waypoint window (on my Fugawi it's 8 from the left on the top toolbar) you will have a list of the waypoints. When you select one, you can edit that waypoint, you can click on the link tab, select the URL and click on display and you guessed it... You're at the GC.com cache page for that waypoint. Hope this helps!
  14. Exactly, But what I would like to do is when I run a search on GC.com, I could select all the waypoints including the ones that I have found, save it as a .loc or .gpx and when I open the file in EasyGPS, GSAK or Mapsource, I would see wich ones I have already found. I find it repetetive to have to go to the cache page to log a find and then go back to the other programs to edit each waypoints that I just finished logging. I was out for three days last week and logged 26 finds... Thanks for your input
  15. After I log a found cache on the website, Is there a way to download those waypoints to Mapsource, GSAK or EasyGPS so that it comes up with the found icon? In other words, at this time, I have 69 finds. If I do a search on geocaching.com, I see those that I've found. If I download these files, they show up with the closed treasure chest like the ones I haven't already found. Hope there's an answer out there.
  16. This thread is really helpfull to me. Now If I can only figure out if it's possible to Update my GSAK database when I log a find on the GC website without going to eache waypoints individually to edit it, I'll be fine. Any Volunteers????
  17. Make sure your PC is sending the info at the right place. By this I mean that the GPS settings in your software should say GARMIN and that It's connected to the proper port: either COM1 or COM2. If one doesn't work, try the other one. I'm assuming you have software such as Mapsource or Easy GPS etc... like Chuy said.
  18. I think I'm having the same problem. I picked up a TB and it had a laminated TB card with instructions on it. However, it's been in circulation since 2003 and it's fading. I'd like to replace it but I don't know where to get one.
  19. Thanks Nomad... I did as you suggested and it was really helpfull although now I want to upgrade my computer. I don't find it fast enough for Google Earth Found 3 of 3 this afternoon... Good way to spend time with the kids. They Loved it. We're heading back tomorow. This time I'm bringing my wife also! Happy New Year!
  20. First time geocacher. First find today actually! When I first learned about geocaching about a month ago, I found a map of Canada that I was able to Zoom in on and see all the different cache locations in my area along roads etc. I though this was on the geocaching website. Now I can only do a search based on my coordinates but I can't see where they are unless I check each one individually. Am I missing something????
