  1. Okay guys, have fun! Just remember that you might want to leave less cars at Smithbrook or make sure you have enough trail passes. That end requires them. Maybe we should have a ladies only hike. I am so slow I don't like to hike with the guys but I do like hiking. I know a great hike to Lake Josephine that needs a cache put there and maybe put a cache at the meadows along the way. Beautiful hike a couple of steep parts and one narrow section along a rock slide area. Haven't hiked it since the early 80's. It is on the Mill Creek Rd off of Steven's Pass. On the downhill side going towards Wenatchee. I am game if there are any takers. It is 3 miles to Lake Josephine so it would be 6 miles round trip. Any takers? Maybe I should start a new thread for this one if anyone wants to go.
  2. If I can do this hike most anyone else can. Specially you young menfolk. I am a granny (a young one I must admit) but much overweight so that should tell you it is not a hard hike. More like a walk in a park.
  3. No, I don't pay much attention to the paved roads, I'm all over the dirt roads in this area. Ya gotta get your car all dusty to have fun! I think Rainey Creek Pass is between Entiat and Lake Wenatchee. But I need to get my forest map out to be sure. I don't trust my memory, ya know everytime I learn something new or get a new idea something else has to fall out to make room for the new one.
  4. Okay ya caught me. I am lousy at remember the correct name of things. Makes me look like a dumby. Smithbrook not Rainey Pass. Guess I better check out Rainey Pass for placing a cache also. If I remember correctly Rainey Pass is between Lake Wenatchee & Entiat. Smithbrook you can drive down the otherside and come out in Lake Wenatchee and pick up the Hole in One cache by Yimi. Then get Navigatorz cache called Lake Wenatchee Viewpoint, and then on way out if you have time take a short detour & pick up Kache, Kit & Kaboodles new cache Dem Bones, * Knock Out View by GeoRoo. You could also pick up Pet Cache near Fish Lake. Head out to the Hwy and get the 59er Diner by Geo Team alpha and my replaced cache at Nason Rest Stop and head up the pass to your other cars. Wow, I bet you can't do all of that. That is if you start at Stevens Pass and work to Smithbrook. I have hiked in both ways. My family has been hiking this trail since the seventies. We all agree it is shorter but steeper to Lake Valhalla by Smithbrook. Longer but more gradual by Stevens Pass but since you are doing the loop it really doesn't matter. When you go up from Smithbrook you have about 1 mile of steeper switchbacks till you hit the Crest Trail. They aren't to bad though if I can do them okay so can you RWW. From Stevens you follow an flat trail for about a mile or so before and even then you really don't get into any serious hills till after Mountain Meadow Majesty. Then you will hits some hills but nothing serious. Great hike one of my favorites. So go either way and enjoy!
  5. Addiction Ha! It's my therapy! I have such problems that I need my therapy often. No. That is not often enough!
  6. Another welcome to you. Don't be afraid to email someone near you who has a lot of caching experience they will probably feel honored you did. I got a email from a newbie once and took her caching on her first find. It was a honor to me that she emailed me and what a thrill to watch her find her first cache and also to be FTF. We made a day of it had fun and became great friends. We still occasionally go caching together. Also don't be afraid to cache alone. It is no worse than taking a walk alone. Just be careful which ones you choose to do alone. I am a female caching granny who often caches alone and love it. But there are caches I also pass up till I have a partner with me. When choosing someone to email, find someone near you who has a lot of caches under their belt. They can show you the ropes to the trickier finds also. Just look at the caches near you and find a cacher who has frequented them and has a lot of caches. If they have gone to all the caches near you they probably live within distance to be of help. You go girl and have fun. My friend started me out on my first cache a little over 2 years ago and I have over 700 caches with probably close to half of them soloing it.
  7. My calendar is marked. Is this a kid friendly event? I may be Nana sitting that weekend to 7 yr old K-boy and his 10 yr old sister Waterlily. Edit: Spelling
  8. Thank you, thank you , thank you, Mountain Meadow Majesty has not had a visitor since CCmin who stayed behind long enough for me to hide it while she fed the birds and then tested the coords for me. Either way in is no problem, but in my opinion it is flater with a gradual climb from the top of Stevens. The only major climb is a short one leaving Lake Valhalla and then it is all down hill from there. If you go in from Rainy Creek Pass you start out with a climb all the way up. Not to bad mind you but it is steeper and longer climbing up that way. Then downhill to Valhalla then a short climb up and then again a gradual descent down to Stevens. The longer more gradual distance is between Steven's Pass and Lake Valhalla. Approx 5 miles. Then the steeper shorter part is between Rainey Pass and Valhalla. Approx 3 miles. Green Eggs and no Ham cache is just a stones throw from where you will park your car at the top and Waterlily pond is just a stones throw from where the sheep could be grazing. If it is hot just plan on taking a dip in Lake Valhalla it will cool you off. Unless it is extremely hot it is not to bad on the Crest Trail. If you are full of extra vim & vigor there is a new cache near the Wellington Train disaster. Looks like a great cache also. The car with the Leather would probably want to stay at Stevens Pass as Rainey Creek is a dirt road.
  9. Wow! I am impressed. Wonderful job and great imput from all around. Thanks Navdog & Pepper and you too M10bike for all the work put into it. I will be proud to have 10a represent our state. I do agree that we could drop the, 'the' and just say Home of Geocaching World Headquarters. Less wordy, smoother flow and gets the point across. Just two cents worth from me again. Love the team effort of all who had things to say. Such positive cachers you all are. So again I say "WOW" Edit: fixin the oops
  10. I agree with Jester on the wording of Washington above and Evergreen State below. Also with the flip flopping of the word World, to read Home of the Geocaching World Headquarters. Having a good flow to the wording is important when we are doing such a Quality Coin! My vote is #10 in silver and I will buy some. Let me know final cost and how soon I need to get my mula to you. Edit: I can never get it right the first time.
  11. My cache Mountain Meadows is crying for visitors, it is on the Lake Valhalla Trail from the top of Stevens Pass. Nice hike on to Lake Vallhalla to with a cache above it. Easy Terrain. Probably 7 miles round trip if you do them both. When I hid it last year we put a car at both ends. That way we didn't have to back track and did about a 8 mile hike. Placing Mountain Meadows and finding the Valhalla Cache. Then not to far up the Rainy Pass road where you can either start or end at is another nice little cache called Waterlily Pond. Up at the top of Rainy Creek pass you will find Peruvian Sheep Herders and their sheep getting fattened up for the market. They say the sheep that graze in that area bring top dollar in Calif.
  12. Congratulationson cache #900 to the Navigatorz. The race is on to the goal of 1,000 will it be Navigatorz, Barnabirdy(s) or will Ish'n'Isha appear back on the scene. Stay tuned to this thread for further developments.
  13. Looks great! I'm really glad you added the river to it. (Afterall the Columbia is the "Dam'dest" river in the world.) Roll on Mighty Columbia! What is the box above the state for? If it is for engraving, how many people would actually use it? Enlighten me please.
  14. What is this rash of purple faces I am seeing. I have had 3 out of my last 4 searches end up DNF. Thank-you Navigatorz for putting one out to soothe my ego on. To top it off one of the caches is by a newbie and it is his first hide. I am having problems sleeping at night with all this going on. All I do is dream of finding those caches. But when I wake up notta. I thought things were supposed to get better when you wake up, not worse. Where are the Barnabirdy(s) to come to our rescue and find these caches for us. Or how about you Subie21, where are you! Isha'n'Isha you are needed! This is a call out for help for all Cache-cadians to help solve these mysteries. Where are you? edit: fixin an oops
  15. So ya finally passed me Barnabirdy(s). I've been waiting for you to. Next goal, catch up with Navigatorz if you can. Congratulations on #700
  16. A big welcome to our new cachers in the valley. Kache, Kit & Kaboodle already have 8 new caches out there for us to find. I have found all but one. (I better go look for it.) They are all excellent hides. Mr. KK&K seems to have a knack for cleverness on his hides. Hikerguy also has a new cache out I need to go look for. Tried once but the sprinklers were on and I haven't been back yet. Welcome to the Cache-cadians.
  17. Awww, thank-you and congrats to you Geodeez! fixing an oops
  18. Patudles

    Kudos

A great big Thank-youto our knights in shining armour (our was it our knights in sopping wet clothes) who rescued us from the water yesterday. Was that you, Totemlake or MarcusAreilus who was helping us through the swift water to safety along with All41. It was hard to tell (I was concentrating on staying upright). Anyway thankyou all it was an exciting experience. I don't know about the other ladies, but it had its scary moments for me. I think Totemlake got the wettest of all. spell check!
  19. Hey, I'm glad you all had a great time. But lets get this story straight. Was it really a snag we hit or was it a Miss Goody Two Shoes, shoe that was rafting with us that caused the havic? I found one of her shoes in a geocache and was taking it with me to put it a cache. I went ahead and put it in the first cache we found and you all were able to continue your trip. I think Lucy&rickie have the evidence. A great time was had by all I think and I can now still anticipate getting that elusive cache #700. Now which cache shall it be this time?
  20. We were but a spot has just opened up for you MarcusArelius! I will see if we can get a list up of what to bring, time and coords to meet, and so forth. . . .
  21. Details, Details. . . . Sunscreen If you want to swim bring swimwear or shorts. No Blue JeansThey just hold the water and don't dry out quickly. The water is cold. Watershoes of some type are good. Small cache items. They are placeing 5-9 caches out along the way tomorrow but they will be small containers so bring small items for them. There are lots of other local caches also so be prepared. Camera! GPS! More details coming as to the time and coords as to where to meet. We will also be having a caching event for dinner at a local place at 5pm.
  22. Those of us who drive that way to Seattle will miss it. I always look forward to that section of the drive from Wenatchee to Seattle. I will miss it.
  23. What a day! Went out and was FTF on three caches today. Found an old one that had been bugging me to find. Waited for a hot day to do it 100 degrees plus where that cache is. Whew! Two of the new caches were by newbies, Kache, Kit and Kaboodle. Welcome to the Cache-cadians! The new caches are great. Both good spots and hides. Then to top the day off I drove by a brush fire just starting to take off. No one was around so I called 911. Thought I was real smart when I offered to give them the waypoints to the fire. But they weren't interested in them. Can you imagine that?
  24. I don't know about you two. Mrs. Barnabirdy would have the caches all found before I even get out of the boat. She has a reputation you know. Do you vote for Friday or Sunday? We have one vote for Sunday but he is flexable and could go Friday. In case you haven't read the other thread on this one it is Friday, July 2 or Sunday July 4.
  25. I know the timing is bad. But the water is dropping fast and it will be to low if we wait any longer. So if you can't make it this year we will try to see if we can make this happen again next year. There will be more caches than just pinball to get on this trip. All41 plans on putting out some more. Sooo, if anyone wants to come to Wenatchee Friday for some fun let us know. Otherwise we will have a blast without ya all! We would love for MissGoodytwoshoes to come but we don't think the raft would hold up to her footwear!
