  1. After getting more finds one of my irks are people who place micros (pill bottle or magnetic key sized) in remote spots where they could have easily used a larger more watertight container with a larger spiral bound logbook. Then they never come back and the "logbook full" comments or "wet logbook" comments pile up. Why not use a container and log that stands a chance of lasting a few years without a problem, especially when the hide was not meant to be a difficult find and is in a remote spot that will not get muggled? Some of the container choices baffle me...
  2. I discovered the value and fun in both virtual and webcam caches having seen both for the first time.. i wish they could be used again in special places where a normal cache cannot be placed.
  3. Why are old caches frowned upon? My favorite caches are ones where the logbooks are all there going back a decade... caches that stand the test of time.. do people just want a "new" cache to up their find count? I noticed a high volume cacher archiving his only to start a new one in the same spot at the same time. Not gonna go back and get that power trail again to pump up my finds....
  4. Ive logged finds on nanos without signing them. ive had a couple of my finds disappear. Lifes too short to go looking at logbooks to see if people physically signed them and im not gonna lose any sleep over it... find count is not a contest for me. In the future ill sign them all though.
  5. My s4 active that i got like new on ebay has been a real winner. works even in forested areas and has held up well. The Moto G if you can find one for 50 bucks can be used as a geocaching device or tablet without phone service. The verizon variant is most likely to be that price. its gps signal is good enough but the s4 is heads above...
  6. My galaxy s4 gets me to within a couple feet of ground zero and does well enough in the woods and inside for that matter... seems like spending the money on a dedicated gps is a somewhat old fashioned way of doing it. imo.
  7. I do not like most puzzles for the same reason I do not like chess... no patience..however theres more than enough caches around that I merely the puzzle or challenge caches. Why get so upset about it? Are you one that just has to have every find in an area? You should have to meet the requirements of the CO to get the find... no paying to cheat as what would be the point... you could always offer to pay the CO directly...
  8. I like variety... as long as the CO uses containers that keep the contents dry and maintains their caches (more often than not this is not the case) I dont care if Im doing a power trail of easy to find ones, going to a unique location, etc. I dislike having the coordinates purposely off... if its not in a 20 foot radius of GZ I usually move on. I will not search 30-50 feet or more away... trying to find a treasure with a faulty map.
  9. Micro... cant fit a travel bug in it (film cans, 2 liter preforms, and smaller) small... room for a few small trade items and spiral bound log book. regular... ammo can sized, large peanut butter jar, large lock n lock large ... 5 gallon buckets... they need a "nano" classification in my opinion... i like finding these but usually do not pull the logs out to sign them.
  10. The real question is whether you bother to dig the logs out of these nanos or not... as long as I find them I do not necessarily log a cache smaller than a film canister physically. I will log it electronically. I figure it's less wear and tear on the cache and more time the CO can go without replacing it as well. Some hilarious comments in this thread! Losing the will to live... hahaha.
  11. I found im not a numbers person... after about the 15 or 20th cache on a power trail Im done... it starts to feel like work.... Im there to ride.... but I appreciate the work that goes into them. Its nice when in a hurry they are easy to find....but really i have no desire at all to pump up my find count for its own sake.... most caches are remarkably similar in composition.. i like it when the cache takes me to a location i otherwise would not have found.
  12. I found one today with a NM request in place by someone (not me) so it made me aware at least to not assume they are missing if a few people in a row cant find em. NM request vanished when i checked the logs this evening. Being the first to find one in a couple years with a string of dnfs and a nm is... satisfying... I will continue to use NM requests as needed... not for wet logs but broken or caches highly suspected of being missing from users not logged into the site in years etc. Multiple NM requests by others with no action taken - NA.
  13. so far all i ve gotten from posting NM requests are owners archiving caches. Im assuming I can put my own down in the same location is this is so? I do ask permission from original owner but usually get no reply. People seem to take it personally like its my job to put down a new one...do people typically put down new containers if they find one destroyed or post a nm?
  14. I would like to be able to ignore entire users (temporarily) and filter out all their caches with pocket queries. There is one on this list that I would like to be able to block all their micros from showing on a pocket query with this site. I don't have internet on my computer at home to use the third party windows app only my phone. Thousands of micros with no end in sight in my opinion does not help this hobby and they are in the process.of doing another massive power trail... http://www.zinnware....DESC&Limit=3500 I don't want to block all micros just this user's micros or all this user's caches if I can't block just their micros. Blocking them one by one is not possible I have to filter out all micros instead right now.
  15. I just had one where the owner disabled after i did a NM.. owner has 12000 finds and many hides and does not plan to replace. I asked to adopt cache... no reply yet. Honestly dont place more caches than you plan to maintain and dont expect others to do it unless you are prepared to adopt. I use NA and NM when necessary and would expect the same in return say if i disappeared or died.... someone can adopt mine in that case... There are a LOT of caches that end up with wet logs so many that i do not NM those I just log found and mention it.Obvious containers that will let moisture in are obvious....
  16. As long as they can maintain them Ive got no problem with it. It helps to have multiple caches in close proximity to lure people.to somewhere they might not otherwise go. me? so far im not into micros but could see myself hiting a power trail in the right mood. i exclude them by filtering out all micros when doing pocket query... easiest way though there are some clever nano hides.
  17. I have no problem logging maintenance and/or archive requests and have already has 2 defunct caches archived. When there has been no find in 2 years and caches are placed in muggle heavy locations right in town in bushes subject to landscaping with no finds and several dnfs.... Although I dont seek many micros I have noticed this problem with people hiding more micros than they can possibly maintain or keep track of. Also life happens and many people simply abandon their accounts and hides.
  18. Lots still around here...either there are less do gooders or the distance required to get from one to another (cost of gas) makes it impractical to take them. I detest thieves personally. Get a job and buy one yourself. I use lock n locks myself and have a couple plastic ammo cans at the ready. There are already a couple people in this area hiding micros by the thousands so Im not touching those if I can avoid it though sometimes its necessary to use one
  19. Metal ammo cans are among my favorite of the generic container hides as they hold up well and have good swag. sarcasm aside please turn off your tv and stop worrying about nothing.
  20. So much micro junk i filter them all out with pocket queries. i only go for power trails if they are along paced bike paths and im in the mood for it but its nice to have the option... some with thousands of hides are going overboard though. more power to em but i gotta filter them out.
  21. as a gunowner myself i laugh when people say they will shoot you for wandering onto their land... yeah thats gonna hold up in court. see you in prison dunbass.
  22. So if you go and place a cache somewhere and its approved it can get pulled later on if people let Groundspeak know that the cache is within a tenth mile of the mystery location? That explains why theres no cache at a pretty obvious area to place one.
  23. I'll only log a find if I find the cache, but I do not bother opening up any micros smaller than a film canister to sign the logs.
  24. Finally went out geocaching with this device and it performs very well. I sold it to my mother for $50 to use geocaching. Really brings geocaching to a whole new level compared to the Droid 2 I was using which I've come to see is actually a poor performer in comparison. These new phones go right into trees, etc without a hickup. I use my S4 Active and it works equally well. Load them both up with offline maps and use my premium account to generate pocket queries and load them onto the phone for a pure offline caching experience, though my S4 active does have data for logging visits. bypass activation
