  1. I want to see the red check marks, thats the thing. Its a way to see areas I've been to, and places I want to visit that have a nice density. A PQ only holds 500 caches. When I show a friend the GC map zoomed out, its really impressive to see the giant masses of caches that are out there. Never fails to get a big reaction when someone sees that map. And with the red marks, they can easily see my travels. Overall its not a useful map anymore due to obviuous flaws. But its a resource that encouraged me to pay for membership, and is still useful at times for different reasons.
  2. The impossible has happened. GSA returned to Washington! And I think I may have seen him/her disappear into the movie theater. When a friend and I arrived to button up a series of caches, we spotted someone walking away from the likely cache spot. We assumed it was either a muggle or another cacher. So we hung back but followed trying to see a GPS or something to give a clue. We were given the slip at the movies, and not sure who it was, we shrugged it off and went to find the cache. Opened it up and OMG! theres a GSA coin. I'm still rather shocked by the whole thing. Thank you GSA for a great twist on the ending of that fun cache!! Just in time for tonites event
  3. I was not much of a puzzle fan until recenty. I found some like minded cachers who enjoy having a good time. So we now get together to solve puzzles. You may try the same idea. Get some pizza/beer, meet somewhere that has a couple computers and have some fun brainstorming ideas. Get a list of easy to hard puzzles and see how many you can work through. You might be surprised at how effective that can be. We tend to enjoy the puzzles that are "hidden" rather than the no brainer Google and plug in numbers type. Words of wisdom, pictures can be much more than they appear in lots of different ways. Keep looking at everything even if it seems like it might be the same picture linked. Not always the case. Count letters in sentances to see if they match coords. etc. You ever read Mad magazine? remember the last page? Theres no end of tricks it seems. Good Luck and Have Fun!
  4. I found mine on Ebay. They customized with my name and logo. Very pleased with the stick and the makers. Wilderness Walkers by j.j.jackson I assume since the previous maker is named that there is no problem saying the names of other makers right?
  5. This one doesn't give stats, just a ranking to compare by your state, world etc. http://www.cacherstats.com/
  6. I think it deserves a seperate icon. I see some listed as multis, and some listed as mystery caches. Its a grey area that should be defined on its own.
  7. Actually the thread was not named wrong, its the posters who are complaining that have switched it to a negative thread. When I posted this, things had/have been working pretty good overall for me compared to earlier this year when nothing was working. I timed out last night for the first time in a long time. And the speed was so slow a slug would have laughed and burned rubber in GC's face. But that wasn't a surprise to me one bit, it was Sunday evening and thats typical. So I walked away from the computer and watched 2 movies knowing it would be easier to log today. I still say that its doing better. I am NOT saying it runs perfectly or is fixed. Its just doing better than what it was a couple months ago. And as far as I know, they STILL haven't updated the GC map and that torks me off in a big way, but thats for another thread. edit to add : I have no idea why the Mntman would link to this thread for complaints. I guess its assumed that anyone discussing the server speed must be complaining. read the original post, its not negative.
  8. wildlife muggle sets are in. sure do like this series
  9. I don't think Washington has been listed yet, so far we are up to 5 CITO events for this year. The Action Link
  10. ok, finally have published Olympias ivy pull, A Mission at Mission Creek Park - CITO '07
  11. I love having the permit on my truck. Not that its legal but if the day comes that it actually works and gets me out of some trouble. It will be the best $5.00 I ever spent.
  12. really interesting to see these replies. Its been doing fine for me and I'm on all the time. The evenings slow down of course, but in the big picture its still way better than last month. Just logged in to check and took a extra few seconds I guess to load up, but still in and looking around. /ponder. But I see the map STILL isnt refreshed. maybe someday the premium features I pay for will actually work huh? (aside from PQs and premium only caches)
  13. Well, I just can't resist a challenge. Went ahead and placed a multi. It published about 10 minutes after submitting, gotta love that. Top to Bottom The CITO should be rdy soon too.
  14. Published yesterday : Death Star (GC1155x) *final* search for " The Death Star Series " that will give the 6 caches leading to the final.
  15. I love them! Have done 7 so far. I have one, and another in the works right now. Wicked Woods @ Night Theres a decient amount of them within driving range of here luckily. A favorite was Control the Night A very difficult one due to it being a urban night cache.(very hard to see the glints!) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d2-ce877b2d0245
  16. Just had to drop a note that after how bad it was getting, this is really been nice. It still burbs occasionally but I can live with that. Thanks GC.com for making this a fun hobby! now about the GC map not being updated for over a month........
  17. I get film cans from 2 pharmacys close by, Walgreens and Rite Aid. Been doing it and will continue to drop these in caches. I gave up on labeling them mainly to concentrate on getting more out there and not spend so much time printing, cutting, and taping.
  18. I published one a week ago, and another about one week before that, and 2 more the week before that. The night cache took quite awhile to get all finished. And I have another in the works so likely won't get anything out this week. I ran out of prepared containers but have another 9 more in the works. Stocking swag and painting now. OH, I may get a CITO event published this week, would that count? Just recieved clearance from the parks dept this morning.
  19. A Mission at Mission Park is officially set for April 21st. (Olympia) It will be a English Ivy pull in a new park. Listing will be worked on and hopefully published very soon.
  20. For the first year, I was hand writing name, size, and hint if it was going to be a tough one. I just couldnt bring myself to waste all that paper, nor could I afford all that ink. Finally switched to a PDA last December and love it. They can be found on Ebay for $30 and up. well worth it.
  21. If its a metal cache, I have to extendable magnetic prods to poke around with. Works especially good for places covered in Ivy, leaf litter, bushes, ect. the small one looks like this. I added a rare earth magnet to it for more grab power. the big one is a brute. Found on sale for $4. at Harbor Freight. They may not apply to what your looking for perhaps, but its another weapon for the arsenal when dealing with tough hides. I do alot of night hunting so sometimes need extra help. edit to say; these tools don't come out very often, but if the situation fits right, they do come in handy. Also the small one has been used many times to retieve containers that were shoved out of reach from fingers. Saved a damsel in distress in a parking lot. (she dropped her keys down a stormwater drain.) Just a handy thing to keep around.
  22. Im back again....asking again....hit the refresh button already!
  23. Me and Ohjoy are working on getting a Ivy Pull for an Olympia park. Theres very little in the way of garbage around here, so Ivy is the enemy to be dealt with. Just waiting for a few key questions to be answered by our contact before publishing the page.
