  1. Hi there OC cachers, Taking a train trip from WA with the guys of the family to hang out and do whatever. I'm be staying at a hotel very close to (GC14RR7) and am hoping to get some must do caches while in the area. I enjoy challenging hunts and terrain. Love night caches. Not a big fan of grab n goes but of course will do some if they are on a route. Inventive hides are always appreciated, especially if I can use the idea myself some day I believe I'll have some use of a rental car, but not entirely sure on the details of that yet. Odds are the nephew, uncle, and dad will be wanting to run around in it as well. But I'm sure I'll be able to swing at least a few hours with it a day, and maybe a full day or 2 if I'm lucky and they are not wanting to do anything. Any caches I should avoid? please PM me if I should not waste my time, I wouldn't recommend trash caches to your if your coming to town, please save me from them! Maybe send names of cachers in the area who has a good rep and I can sort through? Anyway, I appreciate any help since this is my first trip to the LA area other than passing through at the airport. Mudsneaker-
  2. I include a small FTF certificate in my caches that also say "Good for 1 drink on me". So it has some extra redeeming value. A few of the FTF hounds could get pretty snockered if they wanted to cash them all in at once, hehe.
  3. Yet another thread I just had to laugh at as I looked for something of real merit and information regarding caching. Thanks for reminding me why I don't come to this section much anymore. , even if it does give me a chuckle when I do. IBTL
  4. I can pickup cans for South Sound area folks if theres any besides me. I have a Dodge 1500 so no problem I'm sure.
  5. I have to admit that really is annoying for me too.
  6. ok, I got through to Katie Ross, who is named as part of the production of the film. She confirmed they shot the last scenes Thur/Fri in that area. So mystery solved for sure, and a good ending to a very scary scene we came across. She said usually they cleaned up the mess, but of course the one time they didn't we find it. Alls well that ends well.
  7. It would make sense all right. I'm going to try calling the number tommorrow and see if I can find out anything more about where they filmed at. Thanks TL for spotting that, It would fit in to everything we saw up there.
  8. Not a chance anyone could have known we were going there. It was an impromptu stop after having dinner o a cache that is rarely looked for. Again, if you read the post the police thought it was real enough to bring in a dog and search for 2+ hours. I'm not here to debate the issue since it its all speculation. I know what we all saw there, and it was as real as it gets as far as I'm concerned. No, I wont be calling media over it. The cops know its there and its thier job the decide its importance. The word is out that something is wrong at that location and cachers know to be cautious. Thats my main concern. If any Puyallup area folks hear of anything more, I'd appreciate an update so I can at least know what happened for sure.
  9. it was night, so only had flashlight to look around. It had a jelly-like consistency, with some seperation. I didn't smell it to check, but was close enough if something had been strong like paint. I honestly cannot say for certain what it was. The amount of drying indicated to me it had happened recently, maybe 2-3 hrs before. So I can't say if insects should have been there yet. It was definetly meant to look like blood and that something had been seriously wounded there. This wasn't simply something poured out of a container on a walking trail. I've killed and dressed out enough deer to know it could be blood, but it may not have been obviously, or the police would have not stopped searching after 2 hours.
  10. no sample was taken that I know of. We asked about that and the canine officer claimed it would be to expensive. We just felt like he was brushing us off once the decision was made by thier seargent to leave. We had no choice but to head home and wonder why they would not at least take a sample just to be sure. But to be fair as well, I left the scene before the seargent showed up. So perhaps they did and just didnt want to say so when they got back to the parking lot.
  11. Every scene in woods tells a story. Disturbed ground, leaves, turned rocks, broken/crushed plants, turned leaves, etc. You can read what has happened if you really stop to examine an area. Mainly through eliminating other possibilities its seem certain this was some form of human violence/accident/prank. No way was it related to an animal. But several things just don't add up so its hard to nail down what happened for sure. They contacted the hospital while we were up there, and the only serious trama to come in last night was a teenager who got hit with a bottle on the head. There was no glass or other signs of drinking around, but its possible that could have been it. It didn't smell like paint. But one officert pointed out if it was blood, it should have soaked into the ground more. I just don't know what to think at this point.
  12. mudsneaker posted a note for Puyallup's Things That Go Bump in the Night (Unknown Cache) We found a LARGE amount of blood midway through this cache tonite. After a brief search of the area to see if we could find anything, we called the police who also felt it was very suspicious. Several LEO's and a dog was used in the search but nothing was found after 2 hours or so. Theres a main pool of it, plus many large spots dripped in the area including up about head high on some leaves. No signs of a bike wreck or animal kill at all. This is no joke when I say this was a very disturbing scene. I was up there with the police for quite some time trying to come up with any explaination, and nothing added up other that something bad happened here. In the end a seargent was called in who decided it wasn't blood. I have to disagree or at least would like any possible alternative. Its all over and nothing makes sense from what I saw. A major mystery that I would love to have answers to. *its at the point you have to drop down the steep hill. Use caution in this area for awhile is my best advice. I feel it is likely an isolated incident, but after seeing what I saw, theres no way I'd go back without some form of protection just to be safe. If anyone hears of anything in the future, please let me know so I can have some closure to this. ------------------------------------------------------- Its 1:45 am, and am finally home and exhausted. If anyone hears of anything, please let me know. Its just not right what I saw up there tonite and would love to have an explaination just to set my mind at ease.
  13. put out a cache near town and as soon as its published, go hang out and meet us FTF hounds when we show up to find it. Theres a few of us in Oly that get together for different things occasionally. Come to the events, introduce yourself and get to know us locals, we don't bite. Theres a calendar at the top of the NW forums for events.
  14. Night caches require alot more maintance it seems. So when I mentioned it, that was just to point out that its best to confirm that its up and running at the time someone decides to go after it. Thats all. Not loads of fun wandering around at night wondering if the cache is there or not. *the bookmark list isn't mine, I just linked it. Any caches that need added or removed should be mentioned to the bookmark creator.
  15. As requested, a Bookmark List of night caches in the Puget Sound. buyer beware, some are shown as active, but owners are not keeping them up and running such as "Night Walking" edit: I have another location picked out in Olympia for another night cache. Just have to get it up and running. More info when its done. =)
  16. Wow, its like the SCM weekend of milestones. Way to go everyone!
  17. we need to get a real game going then with winner takes all at the event. Each player donates a geocoin for the pot. A bonus game for at the event. I think Hawks bluffing already....
  18. I noticed it happening again more lately. Its really random too. some email notices for TBs I dropped went through right away. Some that dropped at the same time took over an hour to come through.
  19. 80 (8%) out of 966 caches as of 6/14/07 - since Dec 31 05 I've seen that jump up and down alot over time due to how fast I'm knocking out caches, summer events, etc. edit:clarifying info
  20. heh, figures that the day I decide to try and use a macro, it goes down shortly after I look up what I need. Blah.
  21. I was just there yesterday as well. (Foxhole) The mortar tubes are on sale, just ask them about it. I picked up one for $5 awhile back. Same as the 30cal boxes.
  22. While running around W.Seattle yesterday, we managed to get 2 milestones for some Olympia cachers. Congrats to Dubyadee for his 1700th, and to Frisbee'r for his 2500th!!
  23. An Olympia cacher got this going recently. You may find it useful as well. Cache Favs Northwest
  24. I find the described literature in many caches all over the area. Not sure where the original source is, but I have a good idea which of the local Olympia cachers puts it out. (when your 2nd to find right after its published, its either the FTF or the cache owner) I find it as offensive as when those jerks come to my door preaching. If I want to hear it, I'll come looking for it. Until then keep it to yourself. So I junk the stuff out like all material that shouldn't be there such as food, moldy and broken items, bottlecaps, etc. Guess those who spew it just can't help but think we want that junk even when its been made clear its not appreciated.
  25. I too trash out all material with an agenda, every cache, every time. I don't want to be preached at by anyone. Imagine how outraged these folks who put that junk in caches would be if someone started putting nazi, or satanic literature in caches. Leave it all out is the best policy that geocaching.com has, to bad some folks won't listen.
