  1. Hello, I don't come to the forums very often so I don't know if this has been reported. I can't seem to add caches to a list from the map. It just sits and spins. I have to click on the cache, go to the cache page, and add it from there. Thanks! Donna (clarinetqueen)
  2. I currently have a Magellan Explorist, but the toggle switch is wearing out on me. I'm thinking about upgrading soon. Are there reasonably-priced GPS units that have wifi capabilities? I would love to be able to download a PQ without the extra step of hooking it up to my computer. I'd greatly appreciate your recommendations!
  3. Are you from this area? I grew up on the southern end of Middle Tennessee. I don't know of many caches in this area, since I started caching after I moved to NC, but I'd sure be interested in your book!
  4. In my area there are a couple of places where letterboxes and geocaches are only a few feet apart. The letterbox gets mistaken for the cache ALL THE TIME - especially by newbies. I don't think there's any rules against it, but it does cause a lot of issues.
  5. I heard about the drowning - I live very close by - but I had no idea it was geocaching related. So sad!!
  6. Last summer's log... "This was #150 for me and I don't think I'll forget it... I found one of the other 2 caches here and set off for this one. With all the sand I thought that flip flops would be best. This decision would come back to haunt me. Enjoyed the walk out on the peninsula and found the cache with no problem. There was a wet, torn notebook lying beside it, and if I was in my right mind I would've just taken it to the nearest trash can. The cache itself is pretty icky inside - wet, has some sand, and the trade items are just ick. If anyone cares to, it could probably use about 15 minutes of love cleaning out the sand and replacing some of the trade items. And a new logbook too - doesn't seem right to have a piece of paper in an ammo can. I resolved myself that I would come back soon and make the upgrades myself, but... I was about halfway back to the car when I ran full-force into a log on the ground with my foot, my middle toe taking the brunt of it. I yelled some not-so-nice words and hobbled back to the car. It's been a few hours now and I'm pretty sure that the toe is broken. I'm just hoping none of the bones on the top of my foot are broken. I know, it's my stupid fault for wearing flip flops. I think flip flops and I are going to break up soon." THEN, LATER THAT SAME DAY: "It's an established fact that I suck at geocaching, but today I tested those limits. Not only did I DNF, I got myself in a bad situation. It's scary to think about it now. Fraygirls gave me some hints the other day, and I found the cache coordinates easily. However I neglected to scope out where I should park before I left the house. Mistake #1 I was caching earlier today - in flip flops because of the sand at Sutton Lake - and broke my toe. Stubborn as I am, I decided to tough out the pain and keep caching. Mistake #2 I got close and decided to park behind some medical offices. There were woods nearby and it didn't seem that far to the GZ according to my GPS. There looked like a little trail going in and I figured it couldn't be that bad. Mistake #3 Let's just say the trail quickly ran out, and I started bushwhacking like there was no tomorrow. I kept telling myself, just a little more, just a little more and you'll be there. Pretty soon I was so thick into limbs, weeds, and briars that I started to get a little panicky. My toe was throbbing and I got disoriented for a minute. Finally I snapped back to reality and said - you've got to go back! You're not going to make it! I started envisioning myself falling in the tangle of weeds and briars and not being able to get out. Did I mention I left my phone in the car? Mistake #4. I think I was about halfway back when a limb hit me directly on the eyeball. Thankfully I don't think I hurt my eye, but it did make me lose my contact. And I'm on my last pair, so I guess I'm going to the eye doctor this week. Finally, FINALLY I saw the parking lot and got back in my car. My legs were all scraped and bloody, and I had to close my bad eye in order to drive out. I'm back home now and I'm still a little shaky from this ordeal. Okay, kiddos, learn something from clarinetqueen. She made a lot of stupid mistakes today and she won't be making them again! My apologies to fraygirls for turning your nice little cache into a near-death experience."
  7. I'm sure George Carlin could reduce that list a bit. YES! Thou shalt always remain honest and faithful to the provider of thy geocaches.
  8. Sorry - I just think if you see something that's not right, you should speak up and let it be known.
  9. I just started a thread about this - I think we're talking about the same person. I don't think that everyone should just look the other way. Letting armchair logs happen puts the virtual caches in danger of being archived.
  10. A virtual cache in my area (NC) was "armchair" logged today. It's not mine, but I feel some responsibility to let someone know. It wasn't the only one either - this person logged virtuals in Mississippi, Wyoming, Utah, and other states today, saying they were "planning to visit this summer." What should I do?
  11. In regards to fishing items, I recently found a cache situated next to a river that was stocked full of fishing supplies. I had never seen that before and it was really cool! I'd say to just use common sense and not put in anything that would be dangerous.
  12. The skull was definitely NOT the cache! I had a hint from a previous finder. I guess this should be a cautionary tale to hiders, though, huh?
  13. Found It! I don't think I found this cache. What I found was a letterbox that I assume is part of a multi. Looked for yours but came up empty!
  14. Here's the log I just submitted from my cache outing today, for your amusement
  15. There is a 600+ power trail in my county, and you can really only hunt in the winter months. I've only got 120 or so of them. So I will be busy for a while!
  16. Actions have consequences. Even if you didn't intend to cause hostility, that is the result. No one deserves to have their caches stolen, but that morning that you still talk about? The trade off is that it has created bad blood with your fellow cachers.
  17. There's gotta be a ton of Mac-addict cachers...I'm one of them!! I'd LOVE to have a GSAK-like program....
  18. I got the follow-up email - apparently they didn't mean to make all of the email addresses visible. I was wondering about that when I got the first one. I didn't want every Tom, Dick, and Harry with my email address! But I don't understand what the recall did. We all still have the original email.
  19. I got the same emails. I wonder what is going on?
  20. What a sweetie you are. I am working on a sequel, although the geocaching content will be lighter. Don't expect anything for at least six months. Six months is fine! I can't wait!
  21. Hey, Rat...PLEASE write the sequel to Cached Out soon! It left me wanting so much more!!!
  22. Thanks for the clarification! My only problem was that I didn't want to give away *too* much on the cache as to what exactly I want them to do. I wanted them to get there and be like "Oh wow, I have to do that?" (I'm trying not to give to much away here). I'll just have to find a way to be a little vague but still give enough info so they figure out what they have to do.
