  1. I think that carrying a gun is a bit of an extream. If its really that unsafe to be in an area there should not be a cache there. I do carry a small knife with me just in case but a gun...

    And how do you determine if an area is unsafe or not?

    If you think an area is so unsafe that you feel the need to carry a gun, it can't be a very safe place.

  2. I can not even imagine why this is a problem unless there is a fight over the FTF prize. In that case, see the thread on "Do you carry a gun while geocaching?"

    I think this just about sums up this "high class" problem. I would say get over it and be happy with what you have.

    You are confusing being prepared for high risk. Most of us carry an emergency kit. Not because all areas have a high risk of a survial situation but because we wan't to be ready if a situation does some up. It makes no sence to say "If the area is such a survival problem that you have to carry a survival kit there should not be a cache there" it also makes no sence to say the same thing about an area with bears. The risk at any one cache is low. The risk is cumulative though. Odd are if you cache enough you would see a bear. With enough cahers caching in bear areas, odds are one's gong to make the news someday. Hopefully with a story about how they were able to get away.

    As for being extreme to carry a tool I have two dogs who are well equiped to rip out my throat. Nobody comments that they are too extreme and thinks I should take their teeth out. When people carry a tool (which is the only thing humans are well equiped to work with) the views and opinions change. It's interesting.

    All im saying is that its extream to carry a firearm while geocaching. Besides, as long as the bear signs the log, whats the problem with him caching to.

  4. what was the weather like?

    * see any animals, pretty flowers, nudists, etc?

    * condition of the cache?

    * logbook full?

    * condition of swag?

    * easy to find? tough?

    * coordinate accuracy - good or bad?

    * accuracy of terrain and difficulty ratings

    * travel bug inventory

    * history of the area

    * memories of previous caches in the area

    * comment on the state of the cache's camo, or lack there of

    * did you like the cache?

    * any park weirdos?

    * talk to any muggles or LEO's?

    I could go on and on!

    Ill just write you a 5 paragraph essay on the condition of your cache. If your worried about the condition of your cache GO LOOK. If someone answered all these questions in a log to me I would worri3e about their mental status.

  5. Cache maintenance is all about responding timely to problems or potential problems. While it is nice to restock your cache. You are under no obligation to do so. An you certainly are not expected to restock it with the same items.

    A FTF prize is a one time prize for the first cacher to get there.

    I wouldent mind going back each week and finding a lottery tickit in there... :D

  6. I personaly leave my "personilized sticker" and a dollar store item or 2. The key is to trade even or better. As long as you do that most people dont really cache for the swag (except that great camera I got last year :D ).

  7. Clearly I have my terms confused. I dont mean any kind of trackable. I personally have aq little wooden "coin" with my name on it that I place in each cache. This is what I man. Sorry for the confusion.
