  1. Another Canadian here! Joined the site a few weeks ago to learn about the hobby and have just gotten started. GPS arrived Friday, found 4 caches Saturday and hope to get out and hunt up some more before the snow starts to pile up around here. Thanks for all the info that's been shared, now I'll go back under my rock.
  2. GPS, or Global Positioning System, is the original system engineered and launched by the US. Of course you want to use these. WAAS is Wide Area Augmentation System. It was implemented by the FAA (Federal Aviation Agency) to impromve the basic GPS accuracy for aircraft. It consists of ground stations that measure the slight variations in the GPS signals and send correction information to geosynchronous satellites covering North America. If your within the receiving area for these satellites, leave it on. It can only help. Glonass is engineered and launched by Russia. It is another satellite constellation and having a second constellation will only improve your fixes. I would enable all three and go have fun and not worry about it. Thanks, that's what I needed to know. I have them all turned on, but just wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. Much to learn!
  3. New to GPS stuff. I have a Garmin etrex 20 and it has options to use WAAS, Glonass, and GPS. Should I enable all of them or is there some advantage to using only certain ones, and disabling others? I've been looking around, but the answers tend to get really complicated and I just want to know that what I am setting up is not going to cause problems. Thanks
