  1. We plan on taking a trip to Italy next spring and of course want to grab a couple caches while there and maybe take along a couple travel bugs to drop. My question... Will my Magellan Explorist 500LE work in Europe? I will create the PQ's here before we leave and take the PDA with us with all the info. Bringing along the laptop may be a bit of an overkill. I would like to know if I will be buying a European model GPSr in Italy while I am there so I can geocache while there or is the 500LE gonna do it. We already know that our Garmin Nuvi will have to be upgraded with a Eropean SD card if we decide to take it... but $200 for the SD card??? Gulp! Thanks...
  2. One cache in our area, "Creepy Crawlers and Furry Friends" http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d9-767626c7ebb9 sticks in my mind as having a kinda humourous bear encounter... although the cachers wouldn't think there was anything humourous about it at all. See their log entry here... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...e9-8cc044b97a71. Having NOT read the previous logs before going to find this cache with a group of fellow cachers... I posted this reply when I got back home... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...43-386e4a5bf815. I don't believe there have been any more bear encounters here. Just a note... This is a very creative cache... as are all caches placed by this Team.
  3. Yes Uberquandary, Canadian $$$. They are expensive here.
  4. Thanks Monterry for starting this thread. I just recently lost another cache... to muggles, I'm not sure. Fortuneately, there are cachers out there that will find remains of a cache and place a temorary in it's place until it can be replaced with a more permenant cache. I have lost several caches and one travel bug since we started placing caches about 1 1/2 years ago. Two of these missing caches were well camoed and hidden ammo boxes. We spent good money for these! It would have been about 95% impossible for these caches to just get stumbled upon by young muggles... I am solidly in the opinion, that, if the caches would have been properly re-hidden after they were found, they would still be there. I now refuse to spend $15 - $20 for each ammo box if they are going to go missing regularly. The Dollar Store sells excellent caches... just dress em up with a bit O camo tape! Cache On!
  5. Emails exchanged... payment sent by paypal. I too think this is a cheap way to get into a Treo for testing, thanks!
  6. Has anyone experienced this? I have a Garmin NUVI 350. I've only had the unit about 5 weeks. I loaded about 15 rather large JPG pictures into its internal memory. After seeing my mistake of the rather large file size, I attempted to delete them. The actual file "appeared" to be gone, but, after disconnecting from the PC, the pictures are still there. When I reconnect to the PC to look for the files, they are not visible. I have 'view hidden files' turned on, I have searched the NUVI for the files, I have even tried to load the same files again, and was able to view all 30 (the 15 original unseen files and the 15 new duplicate files). I was able to delete the new files and return to only having the first 15 unseen files that are still unseen (file name) but the pictures still show on the NUVI. I have gone through everything possible with Garmin International (USA)... including them looking through my computer and NUVI remotely. They have never seen this problem before, and are unable to resolve it. The final descission is for me to return the NUVI for a warranty exchange. Does anyone have any suggestions before I do this?
  7. Beautiful photo... exactly what we had in mind!!! Thanks... geobassman
  8. I am very new to geocaching. Just received a Magellan eXplorist 200 for Christmas and are really getting into this. Although we are in a rather remote area there are not too many caches to hunt for, especially in the winter. My Mrs. and I have got 2 finds now. My question / comment is... Are there any rules and or guidelines to the contents of a cache. The 2 that we have found appear not to be too well taken care of. The trinkets are old / abused looking and of no significant value, other than the Travel Bugs in both. (We do understand that it is Winter with about 15 inches of snow on the ground.) Are the cache owners to check on their caches periodically to remove "junk", or is it ok for a finder to clean things up and make it more interesting and pleasurable for the next finder? We are already planning our first hide and making it a cache that will want to be found! Something more than "McToys" we are thinking. Are there rules to contents and the value of items it contains? When we are ready to list the cache, is it ok to meantion the contents and that items of equal value should be traded? Thanx for letting me get this off my chest... geobassman
