  1. You can export gpx from the pocket pc version of cachemate.I dont know if it will keep custom icons or not.(I doubt it but I dont have the cables to test right now)You can set the center point in cachemate to whatever the nearest cache is then sort by distance. When you export gpx files it allows you to set how many records to export so you can set it foe the closest 100 caches or whatever.Looks like I nees to get the cables and do some testing for myself

  2. Does anyone have a copy of the major highways map for mapopolis pocket pc they can send me.I unfortunately dont have it and dont have the subscription now to download it even though I have most of the maps of the states it makes it hard to cross country route without the major highways map

  3. Strumble how did you get metroguide NA autorouting? I tried using the wizard

and could never get to the last step.I am wondering if this doesnt apply to na.

I gout routing with uploading through img2gps but the routing doesnt seem to work right.ANy help would be great as most of the discussions I have found seem to deal with other metroguides other than NA

  4. I heard from a local cacher that did the gbes rally that there Magellan topo was pretty useless for most of the trips because the roads there were on didnt exist yet they did show up on the garmin topo that his partner had.I would probably say the cx is better choice.I have used both the explorist 600 and the 60csx.The 600 was a little easier to use and a little more user friendly in my opinion but the reception of the new x series and some of the other features is much nicer on the cx

  5. The subfoot accuracy would only be usable for placing a cache not finding one.It says subfoot with postprocessing which means you would have to run it through your computer at home to get that accuracy level. And like many others have said useless unless the hider used one to place the cache as well.Besides given good signal and plenty of time to settle my sirf 3 bluetooth reciver has gotten .0001 accuracy against a highly accurate benchmark I think thats close enough

  6. $250 shipped

I am selling my explorist 600 to try out the Garmin 60csx now(yes I have a tech addiction  ).It is almost new condition as I have only had it a month ot two and only taken out a few times. There is a little bit of wear on the buttons on front and a few light scratches on the back.Screen has had a screen protector on it since new(so thats what you are seeing in the front pic is bubbles in screen protector). This will include the unit box manuals and software everything you would get if bought new. Will also include a 512mb sd card to store info on.It does not include any maps other than the base maps though.Let me know if intersted.

  7. I dont know of any that work with windows to do that since most peopel dont geocache with their laptop not a lot of developemnt there yet.I would recomend keeping the oqo safely tucked away and using either a stand alone gps or cheap pda for navigation as caching has killed many pdas that I know of and on an OQO that would be over a $1000 mistake

  8. Try out cachemate for ppc.It will allow you to do paperless caching and also navigate you to the cache just like a gps.The best part is it is only $8

All of the options given by me and others do assume that you have a gps reciver hooked to your pda either bluetooth compact flash serial or otherwise

  9. I would also recommend giving cachemate a try with the cachenav plug in.It does not give you maps just the gps and cache data.It allows you to have every cache page you have downloaded in your hand and if you use gsak they work together perfectly. It is a great $9 investment. The one other to think about is gpsgate. It will allow you to have 2 applications recieving the gps data at once so you can have something like mapopolis or the other navigator running while also using cachemate or beeline without having to stop one or the other.

  10. Thats the beauty of scheduled backups although I havent had a hard reset on my ipaq in a really long time other than one or two I did just because I wanted to start everything over.If yours has backup scheduling definitely consider using it

  11. The combination I would recomend would be to get cachemate for ppc.It will keep all the cache information on your pda and with the cachenav plug in will guide you right to the cache. Also look into Gpsgatelite which will allow you to have to programs reciveing the gps information at once. This is the setup I use and works very well and cost less than $20 for both of the programs.

  12. Well for me I use GSAK and Cachemate for pocket pc.I use my pocket pc as my gps with a bluetooth reciver and using the cachenav plugin for cachemate. For GSAK I set up a seperate pop3 account to recive all my pocket queries. Then use the getmail funtion to download all these into gsak.I have pocket queireis set up to cover about 150 miles around my house which is around 6000 caches and also one querie that runs every single day that list any new cache wothin 150 miles.I then filter in gsak by last update gpx and expoert these as a gpx file which I copy onto an sd card then load into cachemate this allows me to have every cache page in N cali with me all the time. After I get home from caching I export the caches I found into a gpx file which I load into gsak and also use for boulters quicklogger to log all of my caches on GC.com.I am trying to find someone to write a macro for getmail and also the gpx exports so that I will get this almost all of this accomplished in one step

  13. I think a great combination (which I currently use so a little biased of course) is 3 programs on my ppc.Mapopolis for the autorouting.I also use gpxtomaplet to layout every cache on the map.The 2nd is cachemate for pocket pc with the cachenav plugin. This gives you the cache information for all the cahces allowing you to read descriptions get hints make logs etc and the cachenav plugin guides you to the cache. The 3rd program si gpsgate which allows you to have both of these connected to the gps at the same time.I currently carry 5000 cache files with me so no matter where I am in most of northern california I have all the cache info for that area

  14. Best is as stated by others a relative term as in best for what.

The only problem I have with the Asus a636 is the same I see with th ipaqhw6515.If you want too upgrade just the pocket pc or just the gps you cant must replace the whole thing. This was where having seperate devices just came in handy for me when I upgraded my bluetooth gps from a standard one to the oncourse with sirf3 chip.I am using an hx2750 which I love because of the tons of memory plus dual expansion slots and 624mhz processor.I am using it with cachemate and mapopolis and its a great setup.I can pull up mapopolis and see where any cache is near me that I have loaded in my ipaq(I currently have around 5200)and get turn by turn directions to it if needed then when I get there I use cachemate with cachenav to find the cache location. One nice thing is I was worried about the accuracy even though my new reciver has the new sirf chip.I just did a cache that is at a benchmark and got great results. My readings cam to .0004 off on latitude and .0006 off on longitude so now I know I cant blame it when I cant find the cache

  15. I would definately make sure if you are just buying a new unit that you get one with the sirf3 and wass enabled you can get a signal indoors and under pretty much any tree cover.A couple of great choices are teh bt338 and the oncourse both of which can be had at buygpsnow.com for about $120 shipped.I am using the oncourse with my ipaq 2750 and it works great I have no need for a sperate complete unit and have many nice features at hand.If you are going to do it I would recomend purchasing cachemate for pocket pc it is only $8 but lets you store all the cache information you need and has a gps output to guide you to the cache.
