  1. My 60CSX has the same marine points map and works fine.I am still on 3.20/2.90 software though no issues here
  2. I can confirm that the speed issue exists on the 60csx as well.I had the non nt City Navigator 2008 maps for a long time then decided to try the Nt maps for the space savings. There was a lot of difference in the overall responsiveness of the maps the biggest area of concern for me was the panning over a waypoint on the map and having it take a really long time to show the information.Once I reloaded the non NT maps the issue was fixed.I have not seemed to notice the issue on my Colorado but I assume that is because it was designed to use the NT maps from the start. 3. I have the 60csx and it works great for me.I personally use it with no problems one handed.I have even used it one handed while riding my motorcycle down the road before I got a mount for it.A lot of these things come down to personal preference which feels better to you.I was thinking about picking up an Hcx to add to my collection since I love GPS toys (have a Colorado 400,60csx and Garmin mobile XT on my phone) but I decided it still seemed to be having firmware issues from what I have read here.Yes the Hcx is smaller and lighter but not enough of a difference for me.The batteries last longer because the screen is smaller and doesn't have to power the quad helix antenna but I get a full day straight out of 2500mah batteries so I am fine with that. Most people will be happy with either unit and some are only happy with the one they own.It is a great thing we have the choice to buy what we want then. To the original poster buy either one and you will be happy I am sure. The Hcx could be had with maps for the same price as the 60 alone. If I were to do it again I would pay more and get the 60 because it is what I prefer but my preference is not right for all. 4. Sprint has some cheap plans under there SERO offer that offer unlimted data and texts and a decent package of minutes. The mogul would fill all of your wants.I use mine for quite a bit of different things and it works great for caching when I want to do some and dont have my Colorado or 60csx with me.
  5. I would say just to get one of the handheld hiking units.I have logged about 50,000 miles on my Kawasaki with a Garmin 60CSX mounted in the Garmin Handebar mount. The unit is very readable in the sunlight. It is also more waterproof than any of my waterproof rain gear as it has done 8 hour days in very heavy rain with no issues. The 60CSX was great because of the high sensitivity reciever being able to keep a sattelite lock in the heavy woods or in the urban canyons of San Francisco skyscrapers. It is also very easy to use with the buttons all on the top.I did have mine wired to a 12v adapter but that was just so I could run the backlight at full blast in the dark or heavy rain.I was lusting after the motorcycle specific Zumo when they came out but realized that for all that money spent there wouldnt be any major improvements for me.
  6. If you have internet you can also log at wap.geocaching.com
  7. Any of the receivers with the SirfIII chip or the mtk chip should be a good choice for a high sensitivity receiver. The Globalsat or Holux tend to be recomended by a lot of people. One other suggestion would be the Freedom Keychain GPS it is incredibly small and fits on your keychain.I have it and its great since anytime I leave the house where I might need GPS I will almost certainly have my keys.It will get a satellite lock in almost any room of my house and the battery lasts about 9 hours of consistent on use.I still carry mine even though my new phone has gps since I never felt the need to take it off my keys.
  8. I love the fact that It's Not About The Numbers but so many people seem obsessed with the numbers and keeping their profile 100% up to date every 7 days.I guess I just don't care as much I still have about 250so caches that I will get around to eventually.
  9. Team Wolf what version of GSAK are you using 6 or 7 ? Here are some screen shots of cachemate on a PPC The main list view Viewing a cache The logs and hint section The area for logging And if you have a gps attached the cachenav plugin for locating the cache I really like Cm but see myself using it a lot less now that my Colorado can do most of what CM does for me
  10. Well they are both the same data the NT just uses different compression. The 2009 version maps are out on NT and should be out non NT soon. The NT has the advantage of larger maps segments and can fit the whole Us on a 1gb card. The non NT has more map tiles and takes up more room to store the same area.I would recommend the non NT for the 60.I had the normal maps on then put the NT on but after using one trip caching went back to the regular maps. The response time of my gps when redrawing or panning was much slower with the NT maps and I can still have 3/4 of the US loaded on a 1GB sd.
  11. All of the .gpx files I have I downloaded from geocaching.com but by the page full. Could they get corrupted downloading them like that? So are you downloading by checking the boxes next to a list of caches when you search and then hitting the download button at the bottom of the page? If so that is only getting you the .loc files. Download them either by doing pocket quieries or by clicking on the get gpx file link when viewing the page. I will post up some screen shots of what the ppc version of CM looks like for me when I get back from dinner
  12. I also use cachemate, but it was pretty disapointing, I still have to download the PDF file for each cache. I'm a new user so I may be doing something wrong. I tried to get support and that was more of a joke than help. I don't know if the devoloper is writeing the software parttime or what. I checked the .gpx files that I have in EasyGPS and GSAK and they are not .loc files. I get the same useless cache info in both and with cachemate. For $8.00 cachemate is still worth the money for a mobile data base eventhough you can use your GPS for almost the same database info that cachemate can be used for. The only advantage with cachemate is that you can put your DNF's into a separate folder so you know what caches to go back and look for again. Unless I figure out that I'm doing something wrong, cachemate will not be used very much on my phone. Something must be going wrong somewhere for you.Cachemate should have all the info in it.There was also an update released today that adds a few more options as well.If you need help with it feel free to email me or ask on the board and I will see if I can help. GPXSonar is pretty much dead you can still use the last version which is floating around and it works but for me the intgration with gsak made Cachemate the better choice. Now that I have my Colorado though I might not be using it quite as much. The mirror site for it is down at times I do have the cab file if you need it just let me know Too bad your PDA didnt use the Garmin mobile Xt software then you could use topo maps made for Garmin CrazyOn2Wheels
  13. Thanks for the update. It's funny because I was just looking last night if an update had been released and there it is this morning.I had one issue with the directional control moving that I posted on the cachemate boards. Thanks for the work on a great program
  14. The 60csx is a great unit that should work well for you.As far as a few of your other points. The topo maps are not locked so you can usually find them fairly cheaply on ebay or the like.Once you are within 20ft or so of the cache the arrow can change directions on any gps becuase you are withing the circle of accuracy of the gps.It doesnt always happen but if it does it is not ht e gps units fault.Like others have suggested you can use GSAK to change the way the cache info is loaded into your GPS.You can also try using the poiloader from garmin which can hold more info per cache. There is a ton of useful information here on the boards about almost anything you could want to do with the 60csx.Enjoy the new toy.

  16. The only software I have seen to combine it all in one like that is geoscout but I haven't used it much so I don't know how well it works.I thought it was interesting because is can download cache data and maps for wherever you are but it does require an internet connection to do so and I am not sure if it will preload maps.If you don't need a Topo map you can check out Cachemate it is a very popular program that can do everything besides the mapping that you want. Both of these offer a free trial of some sort as well.
  17. So upping the limit from 2025 segments to 5000-6000 segments wasnt enough for you or maybe I just dont understand exactly what you are trying to do.
  18. If you live anywhere near a frys electronics they have been having the 2GB microsdon sale pretty regularly for 9.99
  19. Anyone know where I can get a copy off the gmmaprom from a colo 400t to load if mine got erased ??
  20. I cant 100% say with topo Uk as I am in the us but I assune the Garmin locking is the same on all their products. You can install the software on both your computers. You can only upload the maps to one GPS though.
  21. Since it sounds like you used the checkboxes on gc.com to download the loc files you will only get 20 per file you have to do it once for each page.Even if you do multiple pages before selecting download waypoints it will only send the first 20.I am suprised you havent recieved the querys yet any time I submit a new one I have it with 10mins or so.
  22. For my Gsak string I set the name to 14 characters then its %drop2 %name description: %con1 D%dif/T%ter %last4 %datelf I use this with the custom icon macro to give me all the basic information at a glance If I need more then I consult cachemate or the website. I use similar strings for the ones loaded as POI's
  23. When I saw this at best buy the other day it was a bundle with City Navigator NT although even with the masp bundled in their price is still high.
  24. A lot of it depends on where you live and what you are looking for as far as the maps are concerned. As far as I know Garmin is the only one that offers topo maps that will load onto your gps that has complete USA coverage. The main problem some people have with them is they dont have as many contour lines as most paper topo maps. There are many areas where you can buy or get free topo mpas that people have made for the Garmin Gps units.Like Miragee said the topo maps from Garmin are not locked so if you buy a used set they will load fine on your GPS. You can always go to http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/topous.jsp# and click on map viewer in the upper right to get and idea of what the garmin maps offer.
  25. I have heard there are a lot of issues with the HCX popping out of the Garmin handlebar mount since it mounts to the battery door.Have any of you had this problem with the Garmin mount.I have the 60csx and have used the Garmin Handlebar mount for a long time with no issues.I was just debating as I had thought about trading mu csx for the hcx to save a lil size but the mount and usability with the buttons on the side has been stopping me.
