  1. I have been wanting a PN40 since they came out because of all the hype but so far I haven't been able to convince myself that the purchase is worth it for me.the only real upgrade I would get over my Garmins is the Aerial photography which after seeing in the field wasn't as great as I was hoping. It is very nice but I guess I am just used to googles aerial quality and expecting a little too much on a GPS.I really hope Delorme continues to move forward and provide some pressure on Garmin to keep ahead since I heard that Magellan was going away from handheld gps and if Garmin has no competition that is no good for any of us.All I know if you are looking for accuracy and there are custom maps for the areas you want I would go with the 60csx but that is just my opinion and we all have them. The 60CSx is well developed and past the growing pain problems of the PN40 or Colorado or Oregons.Maybe one day people will use the Delorme or another product as a baseline for determining accuracy for a new unit but that is still held by the 60CSX.

  2. With Cachemate you can set a cache as a center location the oragnize them by distance.you can also center them on your current location if you have gps in your pda.On your 60csx just pan the map so the cursor is where you want to search for caches hit find it will find the caches near the cursor not your current location.

  3. Your software should work fine with mapopolis. It may not make full use of waas but the sirfstart chip operates independently of your mapping software.Mapopolis was my mapping software of choice until I got Garmin mobile XT.You can view lat and lon positioon on the compass screen of Mapopolis if you dont have it yet google gpxtomaplet which will convert a gpx file into waypoints in mapopolis so you dont have to hand enter them.

  4. I'm new to this game, and I have Delorme's street atlas usa loaded in my HTC smartphone (windows mobile based PDA phone), so my phone IS my GPS. I use the bluetooth GPS reciever (BT-20) that came with the SAUSA program. Works great. What I'm looking for now, is a way to look up cache sites on the phone on location. The phone can connect to the internet over the cell phone network using the browser in windows mobile. The traditional geocaching.com site does not work on the phone. Are there any mobile caching sites? Or other suggestions?

what you want for mobile access is wap.geocaching.com

  5. I love my Colorado but it isnt the newest toy on the block anymore so I have been wanting to get an Oregon.Looking to see if anyone is interested in trading any series of the Oregon for a Colorado 400i that has been loaded with topo maps and also will include City Navigotor V8 with the Original Garmin disc and an unlock code for the Colorado. You get the same thing minus the touch screen but with autorouting maps.Contact me if interested and we can go from there.I have all the manuals and paperwork but no box sorry.

  6. When I first got my Colorado I used it as a really rugged pda mostly and still trusted the 60csx to find the cache. This weekend I went on a short hike with both and used the Colorado to find the 5 or 6 caches and it brought me to all of them.A few times i thought the Colorado must be wrong because all likely hiding spots were 40 or so feet away but when I pulled out the 60 it aggred within 2-3 feet of what the colorado was saying.I was still going to download the racks from both nd compare to see how they compared when I was under tree cover and such.I would recomend the Colorado or Oregon to 95% of cachers out there if they were looking for a high end handheld.I am actually considering selling the Colorado to get an Oregon but I just like new toys.

  7. I havent seem map segment info for the Oregon but assuming it is the same as the colorado would be my guess. The colorado is reported to allow 4-5000 map segments.Topo 2008 is 5156 segments at just over 3gb for continental us so I dont think you can load the whole thing on there but with a 2gb card could get about 75% of the Us on there.i would go with the 300 and topo dvd though as it gives you better planning on your computer and the topo dvd is not locked so if you get another garmin down the rad you already have the maps for that one too

  8. It can be done sort of.You can create a .kml file with ther caches and host that somewhere online. Then when you open Google Moble maps enter the url of your kml file into the search box and it will diplay those on the maps as placemarks which you can then route to.The downside is GMM will inly display the first 9 caches so if you are going to going for a lot you will need to break them up into kml files of 9 caches or less.I use Garmin mobile XT with cachemate when I am not using my Garmin. It is not free but works much better for me and it is integrated with cachemate so you only have to load the gpx file into cachemate.

  9. This one plaqued me for a while too since I have been using windows mobile devices with cachemate for a while.Click on the Gpx Button it should ask if you want to download the file cache_datails.aspx or something very similar.Save this somewhere on your device.I have a folder on my memory card named gpx that I save these too.Now go to where you saved it and manually rename it cache.gpx and it should work fine(cache can be whatever name you want as long as you manually enter the .gpx at the end.I love it now for going after FTF caches

  10. Because the DVD versions are really easy to pirate..............

Yeh but so are the SD cards. I have seen alot of working images of SD source image for the garmin where you just need to copy the image to your own SD card and stick them in your gpsr and your all set.

Yeah but the .img file you are seeing was most likely not produced by copying the SD card but by a DVD install that has had the locking removed then an .img file created by mapsource to be copied to your sd card

  11. I really don't see why everyone is so up in arms about this.I know we always want more but SD cards are really cheap now and there are two threads about this issue on the front page.I guess I will be bumping both to the top though since I am going to be copying this to both threads for everyones information.I have the 400c because it was free so I can't complain.I didn't really need the coastal information though so I deleted the maps that were loaded and loaded CN and various topo and other maps in the place of the stock maps.I have 470Mb free of 939 with enough maps loaded to cover me for the wester states. Some people just got lucky and got units with more memory than others .I didn't see anything on Garmin's site containing specs for the amount of memory on the Colorado units.

  13. The "D" stands for differential meaning the Waas system has indicated the is a postional difference between what you are recieving and what is correct.A blue bar means the unit is locked onto that satllite signal and it is being used in the positional calculation. This satellite will be solid grey on the screen.A white bar is usually linked to a blinking satellite meaning the unit has located the signal for this satellite but it is not being used in the position calculation.
