  1. I got this from my local stationery store for $3. its not exactly an ordinary stamp. But yes, I am looking at getting some of my own image made up. I think thats a nicer idea.
  2. As a premuium member, you can set up notifications for types of caches within certain a radius of a location that you determine. you can set it up from here: https://www.geocaching.com/notify/ The notifications come through in the form of emails. As for getting it to pop up on your device, that is a matter of setting your email service to "push" the message to your device. I have set my iphone to audibly alert me when I get an email has the subject line with the words "[GEO] Notify: (reviewer name) published" Hope this helps
  3. Hi all Been a while since I posted here. I'm almost done with university for the year so it's possible that you'll see more of me, at least until I start back up next march. Just wondering, how everyone stays in the loop with the forums? Do you just go onto the website and look at it that way, or have some of you smart cookies figured out a way to put Waymarking forums into its own RSS feed, or newsgroups, or even some other way? I know you can get the RSS feed for "General Geocaching Discussions", but I don't really care for all of that. Just the Waymarking stuff. Also, Can you set up a way to get notified when someone replies to your forum post? I've never really done forums before. Hope all is well, and I haven't missed anything too exciting over the last 6 months. The Talent
  4. I have recently had a Grand opening waymark approved. I was surprised that the category officers asked me to write up some history about the person who opened the site. It may have been some completely random person with very little other records in history. Thankfully in my case it was the Prime minister of my country and information was easily sourced. Is it not possible for a category to change some of its *required fields to optional? I think that if it is possible then the first port of call for this idea would be to get the "grand opening" category officers involved in this forum, and if that is not possible then I would support this new category/join the group.
  5. I've been wondering where te Waymarking geocoin a were. I'm keen to get in on this action! Glad to see there is some progress with this, Lumbricus.
  6. I recall a genealogy center I went to in Melbourne was inside an LDS church. Which category might this fall into? LDS churches other than temples do not presently have a category. The building may not be totally dedicated to genealogy/archival purposes, but perhaps only a wing of the building. Just waymark the wing? Or not at all?
  7. That discussion clarified a lot of points on this topic. I guess I must have missed the inclusion of genealogy centers into the archive or library category. I'm keen to see where the archive category definition leads to. It seem like an interesting topic. I'll be posting a question in the other thread also
  8. Ahhhhhhh, now I understand! He just explains it so well, doesn't he
  9. I haven't had the chance to use the app yet, but I have a small and entirely non-essential suggestion. Iphone users can add the webapp as a bookmark to their home screen. the icon is kind of a screen shot of your page. in this link you can see how to change the default icon for the webapp for people who add the app to their iphones. It makes it much prettier. That is all, but its a nice touch you could give it this sort of look: Obviously, you may need to get permission to use the logo, but it appears that you already have that By they way, thanks heaps for taking the time to make an app for Waymarking!
  10. Ok I'm in agreance with that. No to the archives - just genealogy research centers, defined as centers with a specific primary purpose of genealogy. Is anyone interested in to going ahead with that idea? Does it sound like a category that might be useful? Does anyone want to offer further suggestions? I'm keen to hear what people think about this idea.
  11. There are many centers around the world that are specifically for the purpose. I know the Mormon church operate a lot of centers, like the one in the link but not quite to the extent of a library. I guess the requirement would be that the primary purpose of the center is for genealogy.
  12. I think Senator Ted Stevens can shed some light on the issue with the pipes being filled (or tubes as he likes to call them). 2:10 is where he really explains it all, but the whole thing is worth listening to (if you want a laugh)
  13. Hi again community! I know I've thought of a couple recently, and they've all somewhat already been covered in other categories. I hope I'm not annoying everyone by constantly bring new ones up. I did do a good bit of searching and I couldn't find much that might cover this category. The closest I could come up with is this: http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMBDEQ That waymark is a library. There is a lot of places to do genealogy research, and most of the would not really be considered libraries. In fact I'd say there might be thousands of them around the world. This category is for facilities with the specific purpose of genealogy research (or archives), not just places that it can be done as a secondary function of the facility (like an Internet cafe, regular library, etc) So if anyone is interested, Here is a group If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, recommendations or alternate category's that would fit this, please let me know. I welcome all comments. Ben - The Talent
  14. Hi, Im only new to Waymarking, but thus far it's been my practice not to create a waymark unless I have actually been to it. A couple of days ago I discovered a category that said this: Making a special visit to record a waymark is not necessary. If you can get accurate coordinates for from some source (Google Earth or Mapsource for instance) without physically visiting, and you can reasonably accurately complete all of the variables on the waymark, you are encouraged to record it. (You may not however log this waymark as visited, until you make a special trip to it). The reason for this is to get lots of waymarks in this category - the more the better. We want to help people find the waymark that they might not otherwise know about. It’s seems a shame not to record one just because you haven't made a special trip with the GPS and camera. When describing your waymark, you should have enough information there that someone could find it without their GPS. (edited) What is the general idea about this? This category I mentioned also included the fact that you have actually visited it at some stage in the past. It may have been before you started Waymarking, but you had to have been there. I'm looking for opinions on both past visits, and no visits at all. Thanks
  15. I notice recently that the category Dated buildings and cornerstones has a variable to link with a second waymark. Would it be a possibility to include this field? This category would be for the object owned by the City of London, not the coat of arms or marker. One of the photo requirements would be to either provide the photo of the marker or provide a link to the waymark which shows it. Just a thought, not trying to flog a dead horse
  16. Does a waymark category really have to be global though? There are heaps of categories which are almost state or region specific. some categories are pretty small with less than 150 possible waymarks world wide. I guess a lot of them might be from before peer reviews and guidelines got tougher. I think that this category is further reaching than lots of others and has lots of potential waymarks, too. I really do appreciate these forums. I'm reasonably new to Waymarking and already I have gotten loads of understanding out of them. It is much more difficult to get a category through peer review now than before and regional categories now have great difficulty unless they are truly exceptional. Another problem here is that you are asking for a category where each of the locations can already be waymarked in the Coat of Arms category and the new category would be restricted to a specific coat of arms. Many categories overlap others but having a category that is really a subset of another is a real redundancy problem and then to have it geographical restricted to mostly one country might be a tough one to get through. ah ok. that clears it up a lot. Thanks for helping me understand people!

  18. Businesses, land and structures owned by the city of London are quite far reaching, extending throughout most of the UK. If it were just in London city only, or even just that south east england region I would agree totally, but from what I am lead to believe, the corporation of the city of London owns a lot more than most might expect. The aim of this waymark is to see just how wide its reach is.
  19. With geocaching, I've not really had to much interest in the forums, but now I'm beginning to like them a lot more. Waymarking is much more enjoyable than anyone had described it to me.
  20. I have an idea for a group to propose a category, but I'm not sure if its too similar to other groups or not. I would like to think it is different enough, but people who don't understand it might not recognise it. This is going to be a little confusing, but the basic concept is this: Within London city lies another much smaller city. It is called the "City of London" (it was there first). They are indeed two different cities. To get a good idea of how this works you could watch these two videos: The City of London (the ancient one) is a very wealthy corporation. It owns and operates many businesses, lands and structures outside of its city limits. Most, if not all of the property of the City of London will bear a marker, indicating ownership. This marker is usually a crest or a dragon. Like this: This is where the lines get a little blurry. Could the proposed new category be for "the City of London crest/marker"? The idea is to find businesses, structures or land which is owned by the corporation of the city of London., make the waymark the location of the marker/coat of arms. I know there is a category for coat of Arms, and while it is true that the indicator of City of London is a coat of arms, I think this is a little different for the above reasons ... Or perhaps if that wont work, the category could be for "property of the City of London", as indicated by the crest or marker. The waymark would be the property itself, rather than the coat of arms. Does anyone have any opinions about this idea? I think it would be cool to see how far reaching the property of the City of London is, by way of Waymarking. Cheers - The Talent.
  21. Thanks. I guess I missed those. Over 1000 categories, and its bound to happen. I have deleted my group.

  23. Hi, Im new to Waymarking, but I have spent a lot of the last couple of weeks finding creating new waymarks. I had found a bunch when I was on vacation but in my home town there isnt many already. I am creating all of the new ones. I dont really know how to do this, so this is part of my first attempt at proposing a new category. if anyone wants to correct my method that would be great. I assume it goes like this: 1. create a group, 2. invite friends to join the group or advertise here on the forums for people to join the group, 3 when you get at least two additional members and promote them to officers you get the option to submit the group to peer review. you then have to discuss all of the details including the variables and name and when a unanimous decision is reached you submit the category for peer review. 4 pending peer review, you may have a new category, of which you are now the reviewer. is this correct? so here goes: I'm starting a new group and am looking for members who want to support and possibly become officers of the group. its based on animal statues relating not to a specific animal, but to the species, breed, or type of animal. i have seen statues of cats, turtles, dogs, cows, giraffes, horses, and cows. there is currently a group for animal memorials for specific animals, and also a category for fiberglass horses. why should horses or famous animals have all the fun? My home town has about a dozen different breeds of cattle statues througout the town. I want to waymark them, and I'm sure there are plenty of other statues looking for this category! if you are interested, go to the group at this address: http://www.Waymarking.com/groups/details.aspx?f=1&guid=213fb86f-26c5-46bc-aa24-1bb4fcc49495

  25. No forked sticks on the trees were you live? The slingshot used in the original cache was aluminium handle with "air holes" drilled out of it. everything else is a near perfect replica, why should I skimp on the last item? Looking for something like this:
