  1. I had the same thought. Seems like there should be two Souvenir's 1) GeoWoodstock XVI 2) Giga!! Maybe/Hopefully something will come along in a day or two.
  2. I wish there was a "Needs Maintenance" checkbox in the found log like there is for Favorite Points and Coordinates. Many times I will find the cache while at the same time noting that it needs a little owner love. If I have the needed parts with me I will, of course, fix the cache myself, but many times I don't have the needed parts. As things stand now, I really need to log two logs - one for the find, and one of the Needs Mainenance. The reality is that most of the time I mention the problem in my found log, but do not clutter the logs with a second log. More to the point, it seems like there would be few instances where there would be a Needs Maintenance without an assoicated Found log. How can I know it needs maintenance if I did not find it?
  3. I have a Nuvi 255w, and for the most part like it, but after 6 months I am still trying to find a work-flow for GPX files that works consistently and reliably. I am no stranger to transferring data back and forth to my other Garmin GPS units, but so for the Nuvi and I do not have an understanding. I have tried various searches on the internet on this topic, but still am at a loss. I am hoping that someone here can give me the "definitive" answer. I know that it is possible to load waypoints into the unit as POIs, but my preference is for Favorites via a GPX files. Loading the GPX file the first time is not the problem, the problem comes when it is time to update or delete waypoints. It is my understanding the the Nuvi imports data into the internal memory, so when the GPX file is deleted, the data remains untouched. It is possible to individually delete waypoints, but this is impractical for a large number of waypoints. It is also possible to delete all favorites, but this clears not only the imported GPX data, but also any data that may have been created on the road. Now for the big rub.... My current (not entirely working) work-flow is as follows: Load GPX files into the unit. --Time to make a change.-- Delete GPX files from unit. Delete all favorites from within the unit via the unit software. Copy new GPX files to the unit The problem is that some of the new GPX files are read and some are not. Changing the file names sometimes works, sometimes does not. It would be really helpful if someone could outline EXACTLY how the Nuvi (255W) deals with GPX files, internally stored and deleted favorites, and the current and temp gpx files. Thanks to anyone can help - CacheCredit
  4. A friend of mine just completed my first cartridge, and was kind enough to pass along the log file to me. I have been trying to make sense of the information, and think I have a handle on some of the information, but other parts are still unexplained. Consider the following sample: 20090220093130|30.41150|-91.18244|5.391|16.671|MessageBox:Callback - [button1] Executing callback script 20090220093130|30.41150|-91.18244|5.391|16.671|GetInput - Set Difficulty 20090220093133|30.41150|-91.18243|5.398|16.900|ZInput:GetInput - Set Difficulty -> Hard The first part up to the first bar is clearly a date/time stamp - ie: 2009/02/20 09:31:30 (slashes, spaces and colons added for clarity.) The next to "fields" are clearly coordinates. The last field is clearly script information. The question is what are the two fields after the coordinates and before the script information? Just curious - CacheCredit.
  5. Wow! this was completely unexpected. I started a thread on this same topic today (my bad). After reading this thread I found the problem. I too had added a link to my cache on the the Geocaching.com web site via the long description on the the Wherigo web site. (NOT IN THE BUILDER.) Unfortunately - it seems that the web site information is used to build the cartridge - completely unexpected. So back to an older question - is there a way to link to Geocaching.com that does not break the cartridge? CacheCredit.
  6. I have created my first Wherigo cartridge, and uploaded it to the site. I thought all had gone well, but I just got a message from a friend of mine that he could not download. Sure enough, when I attempted to download, I got an error. The text of the error follows: Error During Upload System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.ApplicationException: Exception of type 'System.ApplicationException' was thrown. at Groundspeak.Wherigo.ZonesEngine.ZonesEngineDll.LuaDoFile(String filename) at Groundspeak.Wherigo.ZonesLinker.ZonesLinker.CreateZonesFile(String luaFilename, String binaryFilename, String cartridgeId, String playerName, Int64 playerId, String completionCode, DeviceType targetDevice, EngineVersion engineVersion, Boolean bObfuscate) at Groundspeak.Wherigo.ZonesLinker.ZonesLinker.CreateZonesFile(String luaFilename, String binaryFilename, String cartridgeId, String playerName, Int64 playerId, String completionCode, DeviceType targetDevice, EngineVersion engineVersion) at Wherigo.CartridgeService.ExtractCompileCartridgeWithMetaData(GWZMetaData gwzMetaData, String gwzFilename, String cartridgeId, Int64 playerId, String playerName, DeviceType deviceType, String completionCode, String binaryFilename) at Wherigo.CartridgeService.GetCompiledCartridgeWithMetaData(GWZMetaData gwzMetaData, String CartridgeFileName, String CartridgeId, Int64 PlayerId, String PlayerName, DeviceType deviceType, String CompletionCode) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.ReadResponse(SoapClientMessage message, WebResponse response, Stream responseStream, Boolean asyncCall) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters) at Wherigo.GSPCartridgeService.CartridgeService.GetCompiledCartridgeWithMetaData(GWZMetaData gwzMetaData, String CartridgeFileName, String CartridgeId, Int64 PlayerId, String PlayerName, DeviceType deviceType, String CompletionCode) at cartridge_download.btnDownload_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) The obvious question - what gives? More to the point - how to do I fix it.
  7. At first this is how it was set up. There was an item in the zone. The item became visible when the user was in the zone. I had a script set up, so that when the user clicked on the item - then the input was initiated. The result was the same problem that I was having now. It went to a detail screen for the item (name of the item displayed), but not input was requested. I moved it to the task, because this was actually fit the story better, but mainly in an effort to solve the problem. I'll try putting it back to the the item, just to be sure, but I am not hopeful. Thanks again, CacheCredit aka Ken I have now managed to find a solution. What seems to be broken, is any form of click on... Click on Item does not work, nor does Click on Task. However, as Tequila pointed out, you can add a command for an Item, and the clicking on the command is working. Yea!!!! Now back to polishing the cartridge. Thanks for the help. CacheCredit.

  9. I am in the process of building my first cartridge, and while the learning curve has been a bit steep, things are starting to fall in place. In fact, I was preparing to turn attentions to adding media to the cartridge.... and then I ran into a problem. Here is a rough outline: The user is assigned a series of tasks. To complete the task, the user must go to a location, find some information, and enter a brief string of text. The input is activated by "clicking" on the task. Here is the problem: Everything works fine in the emulator. However, in the Colorado, when the task is "clicked" on, the screen changes to display the title of the task, but no input is requested. The only option is "back." I have read in other posts that there is an issue with Multiple Choice inputs, but I have not found any issues described for text entry. Likewise, I have confirmed that I am running the latest versions of the Wherigo Engine as well as the Garmin software. So much for the "Home Stretch". Any help on this problem would be appreciated. 10. The code is engraved on the outside edge of the coin. Thanks for the info - but I am afraid that it is not there (that I can see). I have what I understand to be the Holiday Edition of the coin (Red ring, Green center w. red jewel on one side, and Green ring and Red center on the other side.) The edge (side) of the coin is smooth, and on both faces there is nothing in the silver area between the colored ring and the outside edge. The coin is supposed to be trackable, I am beginning to wonder if there is a manufacturing defect/omissioin. CacheCredit
  11. I got a trackable version of this coin for Christmas, but can not find the code on the coin anywhere, so I can not activate it - where is the code?
  12. I am currently 9 caches away from the 1K milestone. As things are looking right now, I am likely to cross this threshold over the holiday season, while visiting family in the RDU area. I am interested in finding a special cache for my 1k find, and am interested in whatever recommendations folks can make. I am not really looking for a cache that will make my brain or heart explode (although they will not be avoided out of hand.) I am simply looking for that special cache that is particularly panoramic, clever or fun, and is therefore on par with the 1k milestone. Thanks for any help that you kind folks can offer. CacheCredit
  13. Personally I love puzzle caches, but almost buy definition they take more time. As such they are not going to attract the casual, "just passing through" cacher. While I love puzzle caches, I can also say that in my own experience they are also caches that I tend to do later in the list. Think of if this way: You have a to-do list of 50 things to do. Some of the items are quick 1 minute projects, while others are slightly longer, and still others are major endeavors - several hours. Which ones do you do first. Most people I know will do the quick ones first, probably because it make the list shorter and more manageable, and a shorter list feels like you are making progress. However, when the list is done, which projects are the most memorable/satisfying - the longer ones - they give a long-term sense of accomplishment while the quick tasks are soon forgotten. I think obvious parallels can be found with geocaches. I would say leave the puzzle caches unless there is a problem. Eventually people will get to them, and if not it is their loss. CacheCredit.
  14. Like some others have mentioned - The "Send to GPS" function seems to have been broken with the update. I have been using this feature for months - so I am not a new user, and I did download and (re)install the latest version of the plug-in when the problem first appeared. Both before, and after the download I get the same error message - Only Garmin GPS units are supported. Needless to say, I am attempting to connect to a Garmin GPS (Colorado 400t). Hopefully this useful function will be restored soon. Thanks for the hard work.
  15. I would like to nominate an enhancement to the map view. Just as there is a checkbox to hide from view your own caches and caches that you have already found. It seems to me that it might be nice to be able to hide caches that are currently disabled. There is already a unique icon for thise caches, so hopefully this addition would not be too difficult.
  16. The last few times out geocaching I have noticed some odd accuracy issues. My experiences today paint a pretty clear picture of my question. Today I went looking for a cache, and when I was standing at ground zero, I had a 15' accuracy - no trees, no buildings. (GPS set to off road, and WGS84). With a 15' accuracy, I figured a 30' search radius (15' for my error, and 15' of error for the owner's GPS). Nothing but clear (mowed) field for 60'+. I searched the area, and eventually gave up. I went by another cache that I had found a few days ago, and the GPS placed me right on top of the cache. Today howerver the GPS had me 60' to the east even though it showed an accuracy of 15'. 60' off with a 15' accuracy seems a bit off especially in what is a clear field. Finally I went to a known location and maked my point before I went to a meeting for a few hours. After the meeting I checked my position relative to my maker, and I was off by 70'+ again with a 17' accuracy. So I headed back to the cache I was trying to find in the first place. This time the GPS put me in a location 40' away from where it had me in the first place, and with a little searching I found the cache! Bottom line, the accuracy estimate on my unit seems to be off by a factor of 4 at times, does this seem right - does this match the experience of others? Thanks.
  17. As somewhat of a new geocacher, I can say that it is very helpful to have a sense of the size of the thing I am hunting for. At the small end of the spectrum it can make quite a difference. I was about to start this topic when I saw that someone else beat me to it. I was going to suggest both nano and pico (although that may be over the top). Nano would be things about the size of an adult little finger (ex: bison tubes) Whereas pico would be things about the size of an adult knuckle or one segment of a finger. At any rate the added size definition could serve as a filter for some, or a clarification for others.
