  1. Well it seems when I am up late at night feeding the baby, coin ideas pop into my head. So here are some free for the taking. Course if ya make them, feel free to drop one into the mail for the baby's collection <_<

Night Caching Series: A flashlight, a headlamp and an old type camping lantern...All with some glow in the dark effects of course!

A spinning coin: Day caching on one side, night caching on the other.

The multiple tracker: A coin that seperates into 2 or 3 coins, a circle within a circle within a circle. All with the same tracking number.

I know I had more but it's daytime and obviously I forget them by this time of day. Will be back with more later.

  2. Matthew tends to get around a lot in South Carolina it seems, you can usually find him at some local park, he is at a few in Columbia a lot of the time ;);):P

Well ya got me, I'm totally lost, but bring him anyway, well if he can behave in a restaurant with people around :mad:

  3. Post the listing TONIGHT...trust me...

Guidelines state 2 weeks at mininium prior to the day of the event, but most reviewers like to get the request well before that if possible.

Side note-- I will be spending the day down there caching so anyone is welcome to join me, just let me know

It's been posted, waiting approval. Hopefully a few more caches will be in Aiken by the time April 13th arrives. Then I'll be out of commission for 2 weeks and will gear back up in May!

Well first of all...he is a SHE! C'mon we met at the meet up at Saluda Shoals just 2 weeks ago. I had the little baby girl with me  Anyway I meant funny, haha, laughing, funny.

  5. I promise you, you will have at least me and hopefully diskdevil there for company

    Oh Lord.

Ya'll are too funny! I'm looking forward to this and will go from there. Now I just have to go sit in the parkign lot for about 10 minutes and get some co-ords! The listing should be up tomorrow!

  6. Greetings Cachers!

My name is Jennifer and I am part of Team UOTrackers. I am planning to have an eat and greet get together on April 13th. It’s a Thursday evening and I am planning it for 6:30 pm. It will be at Ryan’s here in Aiken. I am writing to you prior to posting this event because I am trying to get an idea of how many people will attend, so that I can get the party room guaranteed private. We need 25 participants for it to be private. If you could write back to me by Wednesday March 29th and let me know if you’d be able to make it, it would really help me out.

    Topics for discussion will be:

    · Caching in Aiken. (And other area’s)

    · Talking to land managers/seeking permission

    · Upcoming CITO event in planning stages

    · Possible creation of an Aiken Area Caching Group

    · Any other topic brought up!

Everyone is welcome, you don't have to be in the Aiken area, come on over from Columbia, Augusta or anywhere else! There will also be: food of course! A drawing for any TB’s, coins, caches or other items brought to the meeting, and a whole lot of fun just getting to meet one another! Family and Friends are requested, not just welcome, and feel free to bring along anyone who might be interested in starting up caching!

Thanks so much for your help!

    Jennifer (AKA Brae of UOTrackers)

  7. Thanks to everyone who has posted so far, I appreciate all the comments as I truely was curious.

To Moun10Bike: I understand most of what you had to say, and have a question. What if a coin is produced to place in caches and trade, but 10 of those coins are made specifically to sell for a charity? Does that diminish the geocoin factor?

    Also, just my personal experience

The coin is produced in numbers greater than the producer's number of found/hidden caches. (I know that I'll take some grief for this one, but let me explain my reasoning. It took many, many months for a geocoin other than mine to show up after I produced mine, and the current explosion is really only less than a year old. Today, people brand new to the game are producing a coin within a couple of weeks of joining the site. Why is this? The coin companies were around 5 years ago. I have my ideas why, but I won't go into them. I will say, however, that if the person producing the coin adequately shows me that their passion for the game is there and is firmly involved in their decision to make their coin, this "demerit" is quickly thrown out regardless of how new they are.)

I first read about Geocaching 2 years ago and mentioned to my husband it would be a neat fun thing to do as a family, I was pregnant with twins at the time so I was thinking of the future. I didn't at that time visit the site or even look into it any further. In fact I completely forgot about it. My husband isn't always the greatest at getting presents for me but this past christmas he did it! He got me my GPS. So I dove right into the world that is geocaching. Everything I read about sounded neat and fun. I wanted to try it all, everyone else seemed to be. So first came signature items, wow some of them are amazingly creative and very appealing, of course I had to design my own, but there were so many things I could use. Then I found out about Geocoins, it blew my mind that such things could be made and I started thinking about all the possibilities. So I think that it's just that Geocaching once you find geocaching.com becomes VERY overwhelming. You don't know where to start, you don't know where to stop. You want to be an equal to everyone else but just can't compete. It's not grief, just one newbie cachers experience with such things. I do hope to have my own coin someday, I just don't know when. When I do I can't wait to place it and see who finds them. I enjoy seeing who picks up the things I leave behind! That's my joy in this game.

    Happy caching!

  8. This is sort of a spin off to Renegade Knights recent post about coins and commercialism. It is NOT ment to start arguments, more or less to get your views and opinions on this.

What makes a GeoCoin a GeoCoin?

Does it have to be minted by a company (ex. coins and pins, coins for anything, oak coins etc.)

Does it have to be numbered?

Does it have to be trackable?

Does it have to be metal?

Does it have to be placed in a cache? If so can it be placed into a cache and then sold?

(ex if trackable, activate it, drop it in a cache grab it out sell it and let the buyer adopt it?)

Why isn't a wooden nickle a GeoCoin? It seems to me these get placed in caches a whole lot more often then the metal coins.

Is the value of a metal coin more because it's metal? It seems to me signature items take a whole lot more care, time and thought from the actual cacher.

(Personally I like the GeoCoins, I'm not fond of tracking as I dont like to pay for someone else's advertising. I do however prefer hand made objects, and even seek them out in caches. I've never found a GeoCoin for keeps in a cache, but many wooden nickles. If I were to leave a coin in a cache I would write to the owner right away and let them know it was there so they have first dibs on it as it's my way of thanking them for such a great cache, experience, view etc.)

Please feel free to add your own questions on what makes a GeoCoin a Geocoin as well as anythign else that relates!

  9. *takes a deep breath*

ok, here's my submission...it's not for me. It's for the thousands of babies born prematurely each and every day. The many that do not make it and the many that do, due to todays wonderful technologies. My babies, identicle twin girls were not so lucky. Born at only 23 and a half weeks Kyra Echo weighed only 15.5 ounces (15 of these coins perhaps?) Jayde Kayleigh weighed slightly more at 1 lb 3.5 ounces. Both girls were born alive, whole babies, moving breathing and cooing to each other. However the Dr.'s deemed them unviable, a word I have grown to hate. Seven and a half hours later and only minutes after being baptised my two beautiful girls became Angels.

I would like the coin to Auction off to benefit the March of Dimes. The coin I had designed to do just that was rejected because the March of Dimes is making their own coins to be sold for $50 and $100 each, my $10 coin would have been "competition". The money raised would be turned into the Aiken SC chapter of the March of Dimes to help other babies make it where mine did not.

Thank you for your consideration, and your kind gesture no matter who recieves it.

    Jennifer

  10. *I am sure I will get flamed for this*

What if the seller in question is paying oh, I don't know, Hospital bills? What if they live in a cold climate and have to pay exhorbitant rates to heat their house and keep their family warm? Granted I do not have a moun10bike coin, I am very new to caching, but if I did, and I needed the cash that badly, I may end up selling it too. Of course my husband has had cancer 3 times and is going on a 4th hip surgery, I am a 1 time cancer survivor, we lost twin daughters in September 2004, all of which had bills to pay. So before you go judging someone on why they had to sell a coin that most likely they loved as much as you would, maybe you should step back and consider what would cause them to do such a thing. Greed isn't ALWAYS the reason. <_<

    *flame on*

  11. My plan is to have 6 micro caches. Within each of the 6 would be 1/6th of the co-ordinates needed to find a final regular ammo can cache. I plan to list each one seperately and use bogus co-ords for the final one, possibly parking co-ords. Would this be called a multi cache? And any input on my idea?

    Thanks in advance!

  12. Well if you got permission from March Of Dimes to put their url on the coin and if your going to donate some of the procedes then ask permission to use their logo.
I don't think I need permission from MOD to use their URL, I sis ask for permission to use the Logo and what it came down to is that they are in the process of minting a coin themselves, a completely MOD coin that will likely be priced $50 for one type and $100 for the other based onthe minter they are using and that minters previous charity coins.

I hope Groundspeak doesn't have a problem approving the coin.

I didn't anticipate this being a problem so I sure hope not too...hmmm

From reading their guidelines at the top I needed to have a minter before applying for aproval, so I just sent those pics off to one today for a quote. I assumed I needed that before applying for approval? Yup I hope no problems.

  13. I'll take one for my collection and one for personal self defense.....(That .45 ACP gets heavy) ;)

What's funny is I designed this coin without my husband, he's a 4th degree black belt. He too liked the "star" design, but it's actually a compass turned to it's side, it's from the game we play Ultima Online.

  14. Like the design. But can you see if those points can be rounded at all? They'll slice through the mailers and coin binder pages with ease the way they are

Why not have an icon of your signature angels made for the coin? It's a sillouette and should work out nicely.

Sorry I should have put that in there, the corners ARE going to be rounded!

  15. I just got the Artwork from Fox and Hound and it looks great! What do ya'll think?

    coin_heads_side_copy-2.jpgTails_Side_MOD.jpg

Course now I need to come up with an icon...suggestions?

Also I'm not taking preorders YET, however as of right now I plan to have 25 two tone coins (For Ebay auctions only) 75 Antique silver coins & 400 Antique Brass coins, with the option to increase these ammounts adding an aditional 75 antique silver and 225 antique brass for a TOTAL of 800 should demand be there for the additional mints. I've sent out for a request, as soon as everything is approved I will start a preorder. The coin WILL be GC trackable (pending ok from gc.com) and have an icon (design needed).
