  1. im glad it was found by cachers and not just blamed on us. this article did a nice job making sure to let everyone know that this is not part of the game.
  2. wow what an entitled post. what did you think you were looking for? buried treasure? this hobby should not be done cause your expecting gain some valuable loot. you do ti for the fun and the experience. if your this upset that the cache wasn't filed with great stuff then maybe you should rethink why your doing this. and to bring up the membership thing? really? the website doesn't make the caches. your not buying items when you sign up for a member ship. your buying a service and, more importantly, your supporting the website and there for the hobby. and if you dont like where the cache was, you knew that before you went out there.
  3. after all the stories ive read and people ive run into, it amazes me how many people in this world believe drug dealers just hide there drugs in bushes.
  4. on my first hunt in 2 years (my second hunt ever) i got stopped by a man in a pickup truck. here is what i wrote in my blog about it. i also ran into my first muggle here. he was a curmudgeonly old man in a pickup truck. he called me over as i was coming down from where the cache was and the conversation went something like this. Him: “can you tell me what you were doing in that tree?” Me: “oh have you ever heard of geocaching?” Him: *WTF Face* Me: “Its a game. people hide things and you go online, find out where they are, and then go find them. its a game” Him: *i just ate a lemon face* Me: “its a fun thing to do in your spare time” Him in a very these kids today tone of voice: “do you have work”? Me: “Yeah i have work but not today.” then he drove off. i was just waiting for the “in my day…” speech. BTW, if anyone wants to check out my geocaching Tumblr here's the url http://arcadiaexeter.tumblr.com as soon as i figure out how to make a sig on here it'll be in there too
  5. hiding a mysterious package under a bridge sounds like a good way to get the FBI to show up at your house.
  6. i dont think its fair to others to pick up every trackable that comes along. now if you dont have one and want one then going back to get one i dont see a problem with but to grab a bunch seems selfish and its stopping others in that area from getting a chance.
  7. some kids that age may just not be mature enough to understand why its wrong. I say some cause i know plenty that would be. seems like his parents need to have a talk with him and maybe get the trackables away from him and do the right thing with them. maybe find him a new hobby until hes older.
  8. as a noob myself, what this thread has taught me is that where you place the cache is just as important as , if not more than, what kind of container you put it in. you can use a imperfect container and it will work fine if you put it in the right spot.
  9. my first find ever was in '07. i didnt start hunting again until this week so yeah thats my longest lol
  10. personally i like signing logs and seeing everyone else's signature. to me it makes it feel like your part of something more so than seeing the logs on the website does. makes it more tangible i guess. but like A&J said, its a game. play it the way that makes it fun for you. if people cheat who cares? they are only cheating themselves.
  11. i always have a messenger bag with me with my supplies in it unless im just going to grab on near my work on lunch hour or something. in the bag i have a first aid kit, multitool, flash light, rope/string, pens/pencils, and swag for trading. i also always wear my hiking boots and bring my walking stick. even though the caches that i have done have been in more urban areas, the boots and stick have kept me from falling down a few hills. oh and course my Iphone which is acting as my GPS until i get a new handheld.
  12. how old is this kid? if hes as young as he sounds then you might just need to explain to him that hes stealing and its wrong. if not then hes just horribly immature and inconsiderate. all in all sounds like he needs a good talking to.
  13. 2nd. i live right outside NYC and anytime ive been there people have been nothing but helpful. even to a country kid from MA.
  14. this thread has been very helpful. i too use my iphone4 and the thought of it flying off a bridge is not good. ive said before, i love garmin. their customer service is great. i stick with them just because of that.
  15. long term goal: gotta catch em all! short(er) term goal: gotta catch all of them in my area.
  16. thank you for making this thread. i had no idea about this feature.
  17. and also at the bottom of the website.
  18. personally i dont worry about people seeing me. i did a bunch of caching today and was in public the whole time. yeah there were a few cars slowing down to see what i was doing and i even had a guy stop to ask me what i was doing but i just explained to him that it was a game and he went on his old curmudgeonly way (seriously this guy was all about the "in my day we didnt have time to be looking for stuff in trees."). so as long as your not doing anything illegal (AND DONT DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL) then who cares if people see u?
  19. i dont know much about different GPS types but when i have a choice i always buy garmin just based on their customer service.
  20. this is a little neater and maybe easier to use http://www.geocaching.com/about/glossary.aspx
  21. i dont know where your reveiwer is from but if they are from the U.S then they may have been away for thanksgiving.
  22. yeah its been driving em crazy all afternoon. first thing im doing tomorow after work is looking for it again and not stopping til i find it. i wont lose sleep over it 2 nights in a row side note: i think its awesome ive found a hobby i can lose sleep over lol
  23. i moved here from MA and what struck me first was how populated it is. with the number of people in any one area (at least in my area) it wouldn't surprised me if it was just muggles finding them and not knowing what to make of them so they just leave them.
