  1. thanks. yeah i have been iffy about parking in cul-de-sacs or on the sides of roads but it seems like i dont have a choice.
  2. ive recently been looking for additional parking at the high mountain park preserve. I know there is the parking lot on college road but im hoping to find some on the western side of the park. anyone know of any? I know on some of the cache pages for that area there is suggested parking but when i put in the coordinates it just shows me the middle of the park.
  3. the worst swag i ever found was a cache filled so full with alphabet fridge magnets that you couldnt even close the box. i was thinking about making my things Trackable. is there a way to do that officially?
  4. wow this makes me angry. my worst fear is that what we do damages nature more then helps it/leaves it alone.
  5. ok i been lurking this thread for a long time and i love the idea of a club for this type of thing. personally, i love sculpting, mostly out of soapstone or wood, and i think im going to start making some things to put in the caches i find. im also thinking about keeping a blog with picture of each one i make. we'll see how it goes, but either way i will always be working to improve the state of swag in my area.
  6. 99% of people who get lost and end up needing rescue are people who assumed that they were just out for a little bit in their neighborhood forest and there was no way they could get lost so they didnt bothering bringing anything. i always have my multitool and a lighter on me and when i go caching my bag has 2 emergency blankets in it, first aid kit, batteries, flash light, small lantern, energy bars, and pre-packaged survival kit (http://www.amazon.com/Adventure-Medical-Kits-Pocket-Survival/dp/B000G7WRDU).
  7. shortly after posting in this thread i had my first DNF in a long time and i did log it. happy now!?
  8. ok that all makes it alot more clear. i didnt realize that the DNF was meant as a personal history thing. i thought it was meant as a warning sign to the CO. i guess its both. i will be using it much more often now.
  9. It's such valuable info to me as a finder or hider, I really wish you WOULD log a DNF when you Did Not Find, no excuses. It's a courtesy to the Cache Owner, and to the cachers who arrive after you. But to each his own. i dont understand that. if i log a DNF when ive only missed it and it is in fact where it should be, how is that any use to someone? i would think it would be more of a nuisance to worry if its there or not when someone just didnt see it.
  10. the only thing that has ever really bothered me about a cache is when there is litter around GZ from the cache itself. one i found recently had been repaired but the CO left the old pieces of the cache just laying around on the ground.
  11. i only log a DNF after searching multiple times. I dont like to post them unless i think the cache might be missing.
  12. I will ,hopefully, be attending my first CITO event this year. Im just lucky that its the park i always hike in that the event is happening in.
  13. i plan on going and getting my Leap Day Cache after work. snow, rain, dark, nothing will stop me. i dont have the patients to wait another 4 years.
  14. mine is working fine as of right now.
  15. i just recently joined the NNJC site and this is the first newsletter i have read. really enjoyed it.
  16. ive only ever run into deer. 2 of them yesterday.
  17. wait do you mean under the souvenirs tab? if so....just don't click on the tab. i could kind of understand if they were in your face when your looking at other stuff but they are already hidden. maybe not something to get upset over.
  18. while caching yesterday I was on the trail and a jogger came by with his dog. his dog had a leash on but the jogger was NOT HOLDING IT. i hate it when people do this. it was a tiny dog, but it did come at me and growl. the owner yelled at it and it returned to him but what if it hadn't? what if i had to defend myself? I mean it was small so defending myself probably would have been kicking it away but i still don't wanna have to hurt someones pet. I hate stupid pet owners. sorry, got off topic. my point is that i will be carrying a walking stick with me from now on simply because of bad dog owners. although we do have bear problems a lot in this area, maybe i'll look into bear spray.
  19. im sure they know that this solution is not the best. im also sure they have seen the 8 million threads about how these maps suck. but having something is better than nothing. so for now im fine with waiting. my only concern is that they might stop using google maps on the Iphone app. that's what i use for all my caching and if they did change it it would suck, but again anything would be better than nothing.
  20. i never post pictures that have the cache in them, but any pictures i do post are normally somewhere near the cash. not giving anything away mind you, but it will be something you might see along the way or near by. i dont think thats giving away too much.
  21. i always read the hint when i first read the page. i'll take all the info i can get. the only thing that bothers me is when the "Hint" blatently describes exactly where the cash is. it's meant to be a "Hint" not a "Tell me exactly where it is" button.
  22. just to be clear i wasn't speaking of anyone in this thread so much as i was speaking of the people that everyone in this thread seemed to be speaking of. the people who would flip out about this (which none seem to have shown up here). and in hindsight i see the point. sometimes you have to defend a trademark when its unnecessary just so you can justify doing it when it is. the same thing is going on right now with a couple video game companies i'm a fan of.
  23. wow people need to un-bunch their panties. the guy painted up a guitar for fun. hes not selling it. hes not starting a company to mass manufacture them. who cares.
  24. you should have seen the first article they wrote about this... I had to call them back and set the story straight because im the one who found the jar!!! they completely blamed the geocachers!!! ... and since im a geocacher, i said there was no way it was put there by a geocacher because this is family oriented and we have little kids doing this! well im glad you did that then.
