  1. Well hello and welcome to the wonderful world of Geocaching John! I'm located in Ankeny, Iowa so its always good to see more Iowa cachers! The cache is most likely on the public property. Like cerberus1 said 10 feet is about how accurate coords usually are. Good luck and happy caching
  2. Yeah it sounds like a sig item. Fun to collect!
  3. Whenever I actually plan to go geocaching I use a GPSr and whenever I'm just out and a cache happens to be nearby a phone works good enough. A GPSr definitely feels like a smoother experience than my phone and I'm not afraid of breaking my GPSr while caching. Also after seeing the accuracy of coordinates of newbies placing caches with phones, I don't even want to try full time caching with a phone
  4. I'm looking for members to join this group if anyone is interested. Group name is "Cheap Summer Entertainment"
  5. Hello all. I was hoping that I could get some feedback on a new category proposal. The category I want to create is for public spray fountains. Spray fountains are the fountains that shoot water into the air and kids play in them. This category would be for only public spray fountains that are free for kids to play in them. Would this make a good category? Any feedback appreciated.
  6. When I was a newbie, I was looking for a place to place a few caches. Being a newbie, I didn't check for and available spots, I just went out and looked for good places to hide them. We stopped at a black fence for a drain thing under the road, and as we were walking around looking for places to put a cache, I see a little trail. I follow it for about 10' and at the end, there is a bison tube zip tied to a fence pole. The cache was GC1H7Q7.
  7. I collect and make my own wooden nickels so if anyone is interested in trading just PM me for my address and I'll send you one in return.
  8. I have the Personal Cache Note feature and I'm a premium member.
  9. Thanks for all the responses. I will just email them and tell them that they can use it for one of their caches.
  10. Hello all! I have a question I was wondering if anyone would chime in. I had a cache in a nice location a while back but after a number of dnf logs I decided to archive it. A while later I placed a new cache there, Gc4edjc and someone recently found the old container. This is their log "I saw that my Usagi Yojimbo Travel Bug had returned after years of wandering this world from cache to cache so I had to stop by and bring him home. What are the odds that he would end up so close to home? I went out on my lunch break today to pick up Usagi but I was just going from memory of where this cache used to be before it had moved so I didn't find it. I did find a small blue lock-n-lock cache which was way to small for this TB so I left empty-handed and confused. After reviewing the cache page I saw that the cache had moved so I stopped by after work and retrieved Usagi after his many years abroad. I also removed the small blue cache I found at the old location so there wouldn't be confusion which I can return to the owner if they wish. I grabbed the Hedwig TB too to keep it moving along. Thanks for bringing the Samurai Rabbit back to his home after such a long journey." The blue lock n lock is my old cache container. Since the finder offered to return the old container, how would I get it back from them. Would they drop it near another cache and I can go get it?
  11. Thank you so much for the help. Millstones is the perfect category for this.
  12. I am planning on listing a waymark but I don't know what category to place it in. It is the county's first mill wheel. There was an mill in that location but it is no longer there. There is no building, only the wheel. Any thoughts? Thank you for the help.
  13. I just started a geocaching blog a few days ago. The link is in my profile.
  14. What was the point of this thread again?
  15. Go to mark waypoint, scroll down to the listed coords, click and change coords to what you desire. Hope this helps.
  16. A dedicated GPS receiver would have better accuracy, but a tablet would work fine
  17. Open the folder labeled "Garmin" Then open the folder labeled "GPX" you will see files that are titled the GC# of the cache (EX: GCXXXXX). Just highlight the file and press the delete key.
