  1. I was waiting for that. So I'm the dark lord of geocaching and Cujo is my hound of hell. According to your sig line, you're really just a false prophet sent to lead us off our path, so ya the Anti-Cache might be correct. Love the George line though. That's funny!!! Is Sioneva working on our book of gospel yet?? Is it a sin to sleep in on a Saturday morning instead of caching?
  2. If you want to make it even more "realistic" I took this picture near me. It caught my eye and I had to get a picture of this. This is no joke, and no I didn't ask or inquire about it. I took a picture and left. But this is sitting in someone's front yard. And one has to wonder just how long they have had it and why a trailer was made for it. But it's still sitting there up for sale.
  3. You forgot the Staunch Defenders of Everything Lame. I found that in a search tonight. What a wonderful name! That's the evil side of this religion. That really showed up in a search?? What where you looking for and found that?
  4. Thanks for the kudos! We try... The file format is not just a straight GPX file - there's a lot of clever (and my software engineer paid me to say that) compression and data manipulation going on in order to be able to provide efficient cache search and ordering as well as the 250k support. That said, with the Update Kit, we have plans to support Pocket Queries and GPX files from other sources. As you have picked up on, this will definately help people who want to filter out their found list and also make sure that your kids have the exact same list as you. I can't promise it will be day one of the Update Kit release, but we are shooting for it. As for manually entering a waypoint in the field, unfortunately no. This was a tough compromise to make but we opted for keeping it simple rather than increasing complexity. Other possibilities will exist with the Update Kit but that won't help with multi's. Cool, thanks for taking the time to answer my question's. Yeah if I can run his stuff threw GSAK, then I can filter out his find's and spit out a GPX file for him and his unfound regardless of what's in the database. Maybe that one marking of a waypoint or as you refer to it "home", could some how be changed in the software to allow you to mark a spot and then somehow let you edit the cord's, then doing a multi would be possible. Just a thought. I still haven't seen one up close, or used one. My little one, always want's to have "control" of the GPSr and he's so not getting his hand's on the 600 dollar one. But really he would probably treat it better than I do. I am kind of ruff on mine. This may be a great B-day present for him.
  5. This thread should not exist in the first place. HC broke the law. He paid the price and it should have been left at that. Instead he brought it here. Why? Other than the fact that he was on his way to a geocaching event when he broke the law what has any of it got to do with geocaching? That aside he broke the law and asked the people here to side with him. Sorry. We all make mistakes, what we do next is what counts. Very well put; thank you for saying it so well! Hey only 33, that could have be tweeted.

That aside he broke the law and asked the people here to side with him. Sorry. We all make mistakes, what we do next is what counts. This tread has every right to exist, and no it shouldn't be locked. I think the whole opening should have been different and not "Let's get out the torches and pitchfork's". There's all sort's of law's about parking, not driving on trail's and yada yada yada. If anything, this thread will have me paying more attention to where I park. So it's helpful. I guess learning from some others misfortune's. Granted I don't agree they came in and said to move or you'll be towed, but didn't bother to say the OP had already been booted. I'm happy he shared his story and can understand, but all in all, this is a lesson learned. And he shared that with us, and it's one I'll keep in mind when I'm looking for a place to park. I'll be looking for a customer only or your towed sign. But I don't agree with the whole we need to gang up and show KFC who's boss, and flood there inbox with a bunch of complaint's that most people really aren't involved with personally. Again, I do feel for the OP cause the whole situation suck's. Take what you learned so you know it doesn't happen again. But I feel he should be the one and the others directly involved with the pre-mature booting dealing with the KFC and not the whole geocaching community. If someone has a cache there maybe contact them and see if they know the manager and may be able to go that route to maybe get a shot at getting reimbursed, or at least some free chicken coupon's.
  7. I do have a couple question for Warren. Which thank you Warren for stepping up to answer question's for us. That's very helpful and I do find that as a company you guy's are willing to go above and beyond to make us cacher's happy. Kudos to ya. Anyway, I was thinking about getting one of these for my son and you may not have this information till the update kit is out. I noticed you said the database is unfiltered. Does that include caches that a cacher has already found? I would like to be able to filter out already found caches for him. The database is it a standard GPX file? And if so can a customer's GPX file be uploaded to it. (this could open up the use on other cache listing site's as well) Sorry, but I enjoy the whole game and not just the site's. If a customer's own GPX file can be added to it they could do all the "found" filtering via a program such as GSAK, and other GPX files from other site's could be loaded onto it. Also in case I missed it somewhere, can we add a cache or two manually if one pop's up near us? Maybe we can enter a multi then work the different stage's just by added another waypoint or "cache" in this case. Again thanks, for taking the time to answer questions here and not just refer us to another website with just a bunch of FAQ's. I do think very highly of that.
  8. Naw, Vinny is the natural choice. Jim No, I think I prefer Chrysalides' idea. Sioneva should be the First High Priest. Just think of the tax break's you'll get.
  9. Great idea!!! I've seen way too many small's listed as regular's, as well as micro's listed as small's. Then if you make the suggestion the size should be changed, well you just don't. Photo example's of sizes is a great idea!!
  10. That was some good reading, but I couldn't find the final turn out. It seemed to cut off 3/4 of the way down. I got a kick out of that. We don't have those boot's in this area, and I've never really seen one before. All I can say about that is wow. 140 dollar's just to be done with it would have been money well spent, but I've got to hand it to the guy, he stood his ground.
  11. Okay, you asked for information and here's all that I can give you. Former Pet Department Employee, Store 434, 1991-1994. They called me "Pet Boy". Good times. Start with whatever manager is on duty at the store. There are usually 4-6 Managers that all work under one Store Manager. Normally only one of them is on duty- you can usually catch more than one if you visit during "school hours". They may direct you to a District Manager- they usually have an office in one of the stores and are usually not in that office. Good luck nailing down a DM, they tend to stay mobile. If you can't get word from any of the Managers, then try the corporate level, but be ready for a Manager, Store Manager, or District Manager to turn you down/remove the cache regardless of anything you have from corporate. That's assuming that Wal-Mart owns/leases/rents the parking lot. Sometimes there is a property owner that is not related to the store and you need to hunt them down. Sometimes the city owns the parking lot. You might have some luck finding out the owner using this website: http://www.emapsplus.com/ And please, for the love of Pete, don't name the cache some variation of "Tram-Law". Do it for me. Thanks for the advice Castle, I will have to try that route!! It would be nice for these bigger chains where we (GC community) could get ahold of people in the coorporate level to allow/deny caches on their properties. I think somebody mentioned it earlier that it might be tough to get even a regular branch manager to ok a cache w/o the fear of getting in trouble for doing so. Maybe I could also check with people who have Wal-Mart caches and see how they got their approvals Hey Weasel, there's one in Wally world parking lot over here by me. (I think you know about's where I'm at ) I don't know who they contacted to get permission and I have my doubt's permission was even gained. It's a neat one though. More than just a skirt lifter. I'm not sure if you've done it yet. But you are on camera the whole time. So you'd think that Wally World would know about it.
  12. This is a very odd occurrence. Personally I've never seen someone really go "geocaching crazy", but maybe this is the first noticed case of it? I'm guessing you checked to make sure they didn't sign the logbook. Another thought is maybe during a late night working on a puzzle cache they spilled some energy drink into there keyboard and the only key's working are "g", "j" and enter. I do have a cache called geocacher's anonymous. This kind of behavior might have to go on that list. Maybe the chubb chubb's got to them during some late night searching, and they have just lost it, and in their PTS, this is all they are able to do since they are living in fear. Audit the log, no sigy, hit the delete on the "find". Just doing the responsibility of owning a cause and deleting any log's that appear to be bogus and off-topic. If it happens on your cache again then you may consider contact your local reviewer for help. Also you may e-mail them to let them know you're deleting the log.
  13. That's for posting that. I almost completely for got about the Umpa's. I've got it mark on the calender now.
  14. Sure, just log it on one of my cache's. Just make sure you come and sign the log book first.
  15. The way gof1 showed the logs is EXACTLY the way the logs were shown on the personal profile page - the one you can see and not the one that is public. There was loud wailing and gnashing of teeth because everyone was upset that the caches were not shown in chronological order. The lackeys fixed that problem. Now the caches on your personal profile page are shown in correct order. The world is good and everyone is happy. Unfortunately that fix now broke the log listing on the cache pages and if you take the time to look, the public list of your caches found are now upside down, just like the order gof1 has shown. But we are now happy because our personal profile page is ordered correctly. The world is warm and fuzzy and smiles around. God forbid they change it back because then the world will be dark, cold and forbidding with our finds in some crazy order and to get them right we have to log the first last and the last first. So what do you want? cache logs in the right order or your personal profile page in the right order? Seems we can't have both. Jim I'd prefer if they made the world dark, and cold again. I didn't relieze that's what made the log's look funny on the cache page. Sorry but I pay more attention to the cache page and what folk's have to say about their hunt then the other list on my personal profile.
  16. I agree with this as well. I don't know if I was so used to seeing it that way or what. It can kind of throw off getting the last 5 log's in paperless caching as well. I hope they consider it a bug and it's on the to be fixed list.
  17. If someone is willing to buy the update kit and keep their 'mate updated then they will probably become responsible geocachers somewhere along the way. My fear is that most purchasers won't ever see a cache description page. A description that reads something like "Land to the West of this cache is private property. Approach only from the given parking coordinates" might be helpful, but will never be seen. Or "The land owner has requested that this cache only be visited during daylight hours". Hmmmm.... Since the users of this device would not be able to read cache descriptions, they would never know about ALRs. I'm not suggesting a connection, but the timing is interesting. Just reminding that a it only has traditional caches in this database, if there was a ARL it would have fallen into the mystery cache catch all category. Yeah I wasn't happy about the ARL thing, and shut down a cache because of it, but I seriously doubt they have any connection.
  18. Just wanted to say thanks to the Lackey's for working hard to find the bug's and taking care of them as quickly as you can. Have a great holiday weekend. Hopefully Jeremy gave you guy's and gals Monday off.
  19. Is it just me or is the advertisement banner on the left side just below the resource link, well it look's so, so, so blank.
  20. Yes I log all my DNF's now. I do that as a courtesy to the owner. One so they know someone is trying to find their cache. They may want to check on it. Two well, they may want to check on it, three so I have people come up to me and say "you had a hard time finding that one?" Plus I do like to go back and try to save face and find that cache.
  21. I've stumbled upon a few caches before they where published. Just by chance. I don't really care about the whole FTF thing. Just something caught my eye and looked a little out of place and wouldn't ya know there's a cache waiting to be published. I've also found a letterbox that I'm the only finder of, and still haven't seen it listed anywhere. Sometime's you just happen to look in the right spot by accident and wouldn't ya know, a container. Now if they are "beta" testing cord's for the cache, I don't think they should be taking any prizes that was left for the FTF if there area any. And I do think if they are again "beta" testing they should go and sign the log afterward the publication. ANd yes I have gone back to the one's I found by accident and refound them and signed the log (again). but it always makes for a good story at an event. I wouldn't worry about it. But again I don't really care about trying to be a FTF. I've got some, but that doesn't really matter to me. I'll even lay off a cache for a few day's, so those that like to get the FTF can give it a whirl.
  22. That is a good question, in the other rhread on the DEVICE ITSELF, one buyer said it will only display the 20 caches nearest to your current location. I read that somewhere that it will take you to the 20 closest caches then you have to restart it to keep going. It was in the pdf file of the manual somewhere. As of right now only traditional caches are in it. Other cache types are not. Hint-hint
  23. I don't know if you use GSAK at all but there is a macro that "clean's" up the html code before you put it into the GPS. Not sure if that will help you or not.
  24. I read somewhere there is a special update data-base for these separate from PQ's. Can anyone confirm that? Or is that privileged info till the update kit is released.
  25. Now why didn't I think of that. Always a day late and a dollar short. (slap's self in forehead)
