  1. I put the older Garmin topos on my XP system hard drive following directions here on the Forum. Worked fine. Has anyone done it for Windows Vista? Same procedure as for XP? (And if so, does anyone have a reference to the post where that was spelled out?) thanks
  2. Some answers.......... I already deleted some files to see if that got things working; so no answer as to the exact number of files when it stopped logging. I'll watch for the phenomenon again (of course that will be a few months away -- or if I weren't so lazy I could write some files to the card to take the total to ~250 and see if it stops logging at 256 or??) Deleting ~ 100 logs did get it working again - today's log is there. The track logs are indeed in the root directory of the card. Anyway, something to watch for.
  3. I have been having the 60csx write daily tracklogs to the expansion card. I notice that it stopped writing logs in Sept. I didn't get an accurate count, but I think that there were ~250-275 on the card when it stopped. Does anyone know if there is a limit??
  4. Successive short presses of the power button (not the long press used to turn on and off) cycle the backlighting between off--medium/set point lighting -- 100% backlight. So one more short press on the power switch after the unit boots should turn the backlight on to your intermediate setpoint.
  5. How do I turn off the built-in barometric altimeter so I can use the gps-determined altitude on the GPSmap 60CSx ?? (I want the actual satellite-determined altitude in an airplane cabin rather than the pressurized cabin altitude).
  6. (My apologies if this topic has been covered umpteen times -- being lazy) So...... GC.com limits my searches to 500 caches per search. I'd really like to do a "super search" for, e.g., the entire state of New Jersey; or all caches within 200 miles of home, even if I have to pay a couple of bucks for it. It's really a PITA to piece together many circular search areas to get full coverage of an area that has lots of caches. Any advice (besides "don't be so lazy, just set up a bunch of Pocket Queries ) ???
  7. I too have an old III+. The triangular form factor is hard to beat for car or boat use. And I agree that sensitivity is not nearly as good as the newer units. I have been using a Garmin Foretrex 101 for geocaching. It's very small (wear on your wrist) and is much more sensitive than the III+. Holds 500 wpts and connects to pc via a serial cable-- so, similar to III+. It's waterproof, so great for kayaking. And so small that there's never an excuse for not having it with you. I've seen it for <$100.
