  1. I have an Ole Yeller myself. You will be completely happy with it for now. I do not have your youth so I needed help getting the coodinates in the puter. My 38 Y/O fingers got tired of manually entering then in. You will in the future want the cord to hook up to the puter and download coordinates in a flash. I was able to find one at Gander mountain, but then you pay their price. Off brand cord can be purchasd online for much less than I paid, But I wanted it now!!!!!!! you know how that is. As far a battery life goes I have found that regular alkaline batteries last much longer that rechargable nickel cadium or the other kind. Lets comare a couple of full days of caching to an after noon of it with the rechargeables. It is a fine unit for the price I am now just thiking that a built in map would be nice for driving. But you have a bit of time before you need to worry about that. Enjoy.....
  2. Today I got out of work early and the kids were off school a noon. why not go out and find some caches. So we came upon the second of the day. while zeroing in on the location we found an empty plastic jar. Well almost empty. It had a not in it stating that they found the cache without a GPS that if the wanted to find it it suck becausethe took everything in it except for the note and the container. It was then thrown about 30 feet from the hiding spot. Now I truly understand why we refer to them as muggles. I took the opportunity to teach my kids about helping the cache owner. They restocked the cace with some of our swag and made a teporary log to put into the cache. I then replaced it into the hiding spot and covered it to help hide it from the next one. Now I need more SWAG.... Off to the dollar store. So what was yours??????????????
  3. Thanks, That is why I was wondering what the definition is for a "Pocket Cache"
  4. If you read the guidelines of the cache page there is something that the finders of the actual cache need to ask me to find the second half of it. So they need to goto the actual cache first to find the second one. This just meant to have something a bit differant and to meet more people at events and on the trail. I may think about putting cards in it that need to be redeemed to be granted access to the second part. I will wait and see what works better.
  5. Thanks for the help in defining Pocket Cache. Yes I did mean Pocket Cache. I was just appoved for a cache that I believe fits the definition of a Pocket Cache. As least by what I think it is. The Tilley Cache GCTY8V
  6. Ok I have 90 finds now. But I have heard the term Pocket Cache. Could someone define this for me? Please
  7. I was just at a Geocaching event yesterday and met someone who vouched for the folks holding the coin.So I am a little more relaxed about it. So thanks to all of you for helpig out with this question.
  8. Thanks for all the Ideas. I'll prolly wait on the "Thou Shall not Steal" line. I was mainly interested in how much time to wait. But I will send out a note to them soon. I had a bad feeling right after I placed it into a cache. Kind of a "buyers remorse." Or should I "coin" the phrase "Coiners Remorse"
  9. I was given a Geocoin by someone I met through geocaching. The terms of the gift were to put it out into the world and let it travel. So I did. The day after I put it out it was picked up by another cacher and logged it as a find. They have had it now for 3 weeks and I am getting a bit nervous about it dissapearing forever. Looking at the profile of the folks that picked it up I don't beleive that they intend to steal it but may just be sitting on it. How much time should I allow before I contact them and how would I approach them while still being polite about it? Maybe I am just a nervous newbie, but the coin is really cool and would like for it to travel around quite a bit.
  10. I was just reading through this post and it reminded me of a series of caches close to my home. Check out this cache GCRVY4 The concept is that a number of cachers from the area all put out a cache with a number that corresponds to the main cache. One could only complete it by going to all the other caches first. There was a common link to all the names of the caches so all locate them easily enough.
