  1. If I do buy the Garmin topo software, can it do driving directions also? Does it show the hiking trails in national parks?
  2. The biggest thing right now is cost. I can spend $50 for a re-radiating antenna vs spending $400-500 on a newer, better unit. I haven't used the one I have enough to justify spending that much on a new GPS unit (would rather get my playboat or a flatwater kayak).
  3. In a few weeks I'm leaving good ol' Indiana for an adventure around Seattle. We plan on hitting Mount Rainier, Olympic National Park, and seeing some sites around Seattle. I was hoping to input driving info, trail info, and important waypoints into my GPS before leaving home. However, I'm having trouble tracking down the info and how to put it into my unit. Here's what I have at the moment: I have a Garmin Legend C. I have the Waypoint manager, but no additional Garmin maps. I have National Geographic Backroads Explorer. I also have a trails.com membership. I'm guessing that using Google Earth or something like that I can probably track down waypoints for important things (like hotel, trail head, etc). How do I get driving directions and trail info into my unit?
  4. I bought a Garmin Legend C right before Christmas. I've found that it hasn't kept a real great lock on the satellites. I lose it when in tree cover, which I somewhat expected. however, I have a friend who has a Magellan unit that he puts in his backpack and hikes in tree cover with no problem losing signal. So I've been wishing I could get a better signal. They've since released the Legend Cx, which is supposed to have a better antena. However, I don't particuarly want to drop that much money on a new unit. So I was wondering, has anyone done anything with re-radiating antennas and would that be a good way for me to go?
  5. Garmin is supposed to release a Mac version of their software later this year. There was a press release a while back.
  6. You sound like you speak from experience....
  7. Just saying hello to the other Indiana Geocachers. I picked up a GPS last week and am looking at giving this a shot. I may try to get out this weekend before Christmas around Broad Ripple or Fort Ben. We'll see. Not sure how much I'll be in here, but thought I'd say hi.
