  1. I'd love to find out how many people have gotten permission to place a LPC....
  2. Hi all! Can't seem to figure out Viking out for Linux. Been searching all over for some kind of documentation for it. For starters, I can't seem to get a map up. How do you do that? I think once I see a map I might be able to figure out things. Michael Schaap
  3. Now, a magnetized box and/or cover is OK in my book. Needing a screwdriver, not cool. Nope. No screwdriver. He got one of those boxes that you put the screws in but by moving the top you move to a larger hole and it just come off. Don't know if that makes any sense at all.
  4. I have lived in the area of my first hide for 4 years. Passed this strange path hundreds of times. Never really going down it to see what this path leads to. Did one day on a walk with the missus. It was a park! In the middle of pretty much nowhere in the middle of the suburbs. I thought if I had taken this long to find it, I bet many people don't know it's here either. So that was my first hide.
  5. I am a pretty new geocacher. My first LPC I found was INCREDIBLE! I was going in circles actually. In a parking lot around this stupid LP. Hell I did not even know that the bottom base could come up. I just remember how frustrated I was and I leaned back on the LP and the base moved. I was like... could it be....? Nahhhhh.... I lifted it anyways. Nothing. After 15 more minutes of circling I came back to the LP and lifted the base again. There it was. Velcrowed to the side:) Been hiding lately actually. Yes I have hid some LPC since I have found 6 ish so far. Not sure now. Got me thinking. But people seem to love them on the logs. There was another cache that I had went back to 3 times. No luck. I mean I combed that area. NOTHING. Well I was in the area and had some time to kill so try #4... better GPS now too:) Still nothing though. Now with the better GPS it kept bringing me to to part of a parking rail. Look around... nothing special. Electrical box with a pipe to ground. Big deal. I have no idea why I thought of it but I shook it a bit. THE THING CAME RIGHT OFF! Four magnets held it on the railing. The pipe was just shoved in the ground to hold the box up. MAN WHAT A RUSH! I know... rambling a bit. Guess I'm thinking about these hides now. They were real cool though.
  6. Hello all! Well I finally got it! Got a Garmin 60 CSX. The maps kinda suck. So I'm trying to get better basemaps on the thing and I have the MapQuest software but when I try to unlock the maps it gives me an error saying to re-install the software. I did 3 times to no avail... How can I get better base maps on this baby?
  7. Yeah, but I mean your out in the field and place a cache. You come back home to punch it in and get a msg saying it's too close to one. I do have Cacheberry on my Blackberry. Could that help me when I'm out in the field?
  8. Hey there. I just started to hide caches but ran into a problem. Too close to another cache. So how do you figure out if you are too close? Not sure? Michael
  9. I am also planning to get this GPS. My friend has been really enjoying the paperless options of another GPS though. I have an older GPS I am using now and I imagine that the way I do paperless would work for the new unit when I get it too. I have a Blackberry and have Cacheberry loaded in it. Since I ALWAYS have my phone I don't carry paper with me. One thing I like about using the Blackberry with the GPS is that Cacheberry has a view with Blackberry Maps. I can then get real close to the cache, then I turn on the GPS. Saves on battery
  10. I'm a bit confused about pocket queries. Right now I have one sent to me on Thursdays (500). What I'm confused about is at the top it says: Pocket Queries are custom geocache queries you can have emailed to you on a daily or weekly basis. They are in a format you can bring along with you on cache hunts on your GPS and/or PDA. You can select a GPX or LOC text file that works with supported software applications. Because of the detailed queries, each search can run only once per day. You have up to 5 pocket queries run every 24 hour period. Then on the botttom it says: You can receive a Pocket Query containing a list of all the caches you have found, along with your log entries. Running this query will add it to the current queue for the day. *The Pocket Query can only run once every 7 days. So I'm confused as it first sounds as if I can have it sent to me every day, but on the bottom it says only once in 7 days. Michael
  11. Yes you have to be a premium member to download what you see on line. On this softare that converts .loc files to .gpx, I don't think it is working. How can it create information for the .gpx that does not exist in the .loc file? The ratings, logs, hints, description only comes with a .gpx file that is from a PQ or downloaded from the cache page. Jim Thanks. I thought so just wanted to be sure I was doing everything right. Planning to upgrade real soon at any rate
  12. Hello all. I had a few questions regarding downloading wavpoints. What I did was download Cacheberry for my blackberry. Then I downloaded the software to convert from the LOC file to the GPX file so the Cacheberry can read it. I do not have the cable for my GPS to download directly to the GPS right now (in the process of saving for a better GPS now). But when I downloaded some wavpoints logs were not there, difficulty ratings and the things that I see online. I am a basic member. I was wondering if I had to be a premium member to download these things that I see online? Michael Schaap
  13. Hello all! My name is Michael Schaap and I am new to this sport. I have 2 friends who are completely addicted to it:) I am preparing for my first find actually and have a pocket PC with GPXSonar installed. Everything is working good as far as connection (GPS unit and software). I have EasyGPX on the desktop PC. So I have been downloading waypoints from Geocahing.com, viewing them with EasyGPX, then converting the file (because GPXSonar does not read LOC files). So... my question is this... when I go into GPXSonar there are a lot of missing information... difficulty is gone... many collums have "?" in them. Is this a standard problem with this software?
