  1. My option to change the "show time" was grayed out and unselectable. Nyra told me I had to click the sunshine icon at the top center in order to make timebar options selectable. Viola!! Now I can finally view all of my non found caches via PQ opened into GE at once! Thanks to everyone for their input and help
  2. As viewed on the Geocaching.com "about KML" page: "Networked KML Once you download the KML file from your "my account" page, every time you zoom and pan Google Earth the application queries the web site for caches in the area. In a way it acts as another type of web browser but it allows you to easily visualize caches in the area. The link has been set up to work just for you. In the future we will provide various filtering features to allow for more specific search requirements." Perhaps we'll see what we're asking for in the (hopefully near) future?
  3. I second the request... would definitely like to see this feature come about!
  4. You will also need to expand the time bar in the Top right of GE to be able to see them all - this had me puzzled for a while when only a couple of caches were showing Thank you both for your input. I tried opening GPX files several times today without being able to view the caches. I too was puzzled. The timebar trick works... to an extent... as I scroll the time, caches appear then disappear as others appear. Can't view them all at once. Still would like to discover a way to filter the KML plugin so I can view all the active caches and not my found caches if anyone has any other ideas. I realize this just may not be possible, but if anyone has a method, please share.
  5. Hello, Does anyone have a method for viewing caches on Google Earth which will filter out caches previously found? Is there a way to manage the Geocaching.com KML plugin, or is there another program that needs to be used and can be opened by Google Earth to accomplish this? Thanks for your time and help! -TxCachePotatoes
  6. The "Looking for Me!" TB can stop looking now.. it has arrived safely at it's goal where it will spend it's time with the other Jeeps in the TxCachePotato fleet. A big "thank you" to everyone that helped it along it's journey, and and even bigger "THANK YOU" to Nyra for sending this one out to me!
  7. The coin can't be discovered if it is not activated. If they were to activate the coin, it would appear in their account and would be "stolen" from the rightful coin owner. It is clear in my mind that this individual has information that they haven't any right to have. They are NOT the rightful coin owner. It seems that some of the "discoveries" have been purposely backdated. This is likely an attempt to justify the discovery (in the logger's thoughts) as having been so before the coins were sold.
  8. Go to the trackable's page. You can see your log there. Click the "visit log" link on the right side. There is an "upload image" link on the page it takes you to. You can also edit your log on this page if needed. Trackable owners really like to see photos of their item's adventures, thanks for taking the time to do this
  9. Must be that forum hiccup that's been going around...
  10. A paperclip, reshaped and the tips ground flat on concrete for a makeshift tweezer. Useful for nano logs and picking cactus needles out of a cacher. Also, not a homemade tool per se, but a "trick" or "tool of the trade" tip. Can't quite see into that hollow in the tree or cliff face? Use your camera with the flash on as a scouting device. Good for checking for caches and critters alike!
  11. There is no mention of travel bugs under the cache maintenence guidelines, that is correct. However, it is stated that as the cache owner, you are responsible for physically checking your cache periodically, and especially when someone reports a problem with the cache. If someone has taken the time to post a note that there is a problem with a missing trackable(s) in a cache, then surely the cache owner can take the time to look into the situation just as they would a wet log or cracked lid maintenence note. There are 3 people who can change the status of a trackable to missing: the trackable owner, the owner of the cache that the trackable is currently appearing in it's inventory, and a Geocaching moderator. Consider this situation: A trackable listed in inventory is not in a cache and has clearly not been for a considerable amount of time. A trackable owner does not respond to notification from a cacher of their missing trackable. An apathetic cache owner does not take the effort to correct the inventory listing of their cache. The trackable will falsely show in that inventory until either a moderator becomes involved or the trackable is actively logged again. Personally, I would to like to have cachers enjoy finding my caches rather than have dissapointment over missing trackables sully the experience. We all enjoy this hobby (ADDICTION!) for different reasons. Whether we do or do not care for trackable items, an indifferent attitude only perpetuates the frustrations expressed by the OP and others who have commented here.
  12. When trackables are obviously missing and have been so for some time, I not only attempt to contact the trackable owner, but include that the trackable is missing and mention that the cache owner also has the ability to mark it missing in my online find log. The trackable owner may be no longer in the game, but any active cache should have someone maintaining it. This seldom results in the item being removed unfortunately, but atleast it gives a "heads up" to those that browse previous logs and would be otherwise disappointed to find the cache absconded of trackables. Thanks to the OP for posting... this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine also.
  13. My 4 piece set arrived today. Just my opinion, but I'm somewhat disappointed in the LE. The black color is a bit overpowering and the gold too thin... really loses the detail. The front of the coin looks pretty nice, but the back of the coin (when held at an angle) appears to be entirely covered in a clear epoxy that spoils the reliefs that are so nicely done on the front side of the coin. The 3 regular coins have details much more easily seen i.m.o. I know A&E went through all sorts of trouble with this one, so it's no big deal to me. They tossed in a little "thank you" bonus goodie with the order. I've ALWAYS had good experiences with their customer service and products, so one dud won't throw my world off it's axis.
  14. That's correct, if it isn't active you won't be able to discover it or the owner. One thing to check is are you getting "0" and "O" mixed up if there happen to be any in the tracking number? I have a vehicle TB tag. (TB1R7JQ) The only time it has been discovered is by a fellow cacher that came by to do maintenence on a cache I was seeking. The tag is a fair size, but it isn't easy to read the tracking number from a distance, so don't expect for people on the highway to discover you. I also use the tag to "dip" into certain caches I've been to and thus have mad a map/track of the places I've driven to while caching. I keep the metal tag on my keychain for quick reference on dips and as an additional chance for discoveries.. you never know where you'll bump into a fellow cacher. A friend also has a vehicle TB tag. She has had better luck with discoveries than I.
  15. Maybe less often than your average bug. I have one on my vehicle. The only time it has been discovered was by other cachers that happened to come across it while looking for the same cache as I. The tag itself is a fair size, but it's not particularly easy to read the tracking number especially while the vehicle is in motion. You pretty much have to walk up to it to read it clearly. I do keep the official TB tag that comes with it on my keychain, I figure if someone see's that, it's a discovery fair enough also.
