  1. there are only 1.5 locals in the area, the .5 being an oil worker who is there 6 months per year
  2. I have seriously considered this and do have a spare Garmin60, plus a GarminMap60CS I had to pay nearly 1000 US Dollars (770 Euros) for the latter, from Belgium. The 60 was 300 US$ I would like to know what is the simplest/cheapest unit that can do the job. It needs to allow entry of co-ordinates as the digital maps here are so good that many caches can be pinpointed and found without GPSr, thus requiring puzzles.
  3. Genuine purse.?.are u kidding everything here is knock off,but you'd never tell. Safe ? well i doubt if you will be held hostage and decapitated, but we have an abundance of suicidal/homicidal vehicle operators.
  4. we need 416 cachers to fill the jumbo...now have 4. btw have a passer by who cycled from Bulgaria..on an old postman's bike. Lived on bananas and water, slept at gas stations. He was refused entry to Australia, they thought he might stay, only want people with umpteen million to invest. I thought they would welcome anyone whose testes made a metallic sound. Not geo but just a thought.
  5. I am already favouring the local sports editor with "walk to" caches and I'm promised a full spread "soon" this would be to his benefit as it is difficult here to call back the "contractors" who like to practise even if unpaid. Most sports coverage here is darts matches and pub quizzes with pix of besotted wretches and their playthings. I have tried to induct the very extensive families of my household retinue, who are wont to take up residence on my estate, but their preference seems to be to sleep all day.Caching gold necklaces would awaken their interest, but they would not buy a GPSr with the proceeds. Mirabili Dictu..2 cachers are already on there way, one from Montana and one from San Diego, Psalms 23:5. I've considered using the company Lear to bring out a group, but don't want to go down the same road as some now on trial in US. Branson has called and is offering a deal on a charter, so maybe that's an option. So all you kind folk hang in there and maybe the place will be swarming with cachers very soon
  6. yes i think that is more likely than waiting for enough cachers
  7. Living in a region swarming with ex special forces, it pains me that in an area of about 6000 km ^2, I am the only geocacher. Undaunted I set under one name and seek under another. Generally they are puzzle caches so it is not a bad way of checking them out. I approach anyone and everyone who looks like a potential geocacher (????). Unfortunately they take me for someone on the make. I am now reduced to paying the airfare and accomodation for anygeocacher who might come here. Any takers ?.
  8. What is all this stuff? Not as reliable as my sextant, chronometer, compass, dead reckoning and charts I'll wager.
  9. yes please john.tabcnc@gmail.com thailand
  10. On the geo site there's an attribute to denote "Suitable for Children"..or not. I am always in a dilemna with this one. Apart from the obvious exceptions, what is within the capability of the average adult would have been no challenge at all to us as kids. We would range limitlessly, climbing swimming, fighting, running from dawn to dusk,in all weathers, from the age of about 7-8 as I recall. Needless to say we walked to and from school, no-one had a push bike. So what is a tough cache to me now would have been trivial to me then (70 years ago)..can I assume that today's (average) kid is up to it ? Hopefully cacher parents with kids are able to dissuade them from TV and Playstations..is it ? and I can log what I can do, as "Suitable"
  11. I use GE to get a look at the elevations, as a footslogger/cyclist this info is very useful, but I guess not to those who just want to drive everywhere.
  12. Hi Thanks to all who replied on the Waypoint transfer stuff..really appreciate. I want to create my own icons and "Paint" seems a bit clumsy and limited..over to u please..Garmin Map60CS.
  13. Have Garmin 60CS and Mapsource, so many waypoints I want to keep centrally, Is there any software to handle this please ? I guess I'm not first to ask, but no search available it seems tvm
