  1. I recently noticed that I have two identical entries for the same cache find. Is there any way to delete one of them in order to get my stats back in order?
  2. Can you give an example? If I copy any coordinate set from a cache page straight into Google Earth or Google maps, it plots the point right where it should be. No editing the degree sign out either. Here is an example: I open up this cache page http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8f-d6bac939c70b I copy the coordinates and enter them into Google Maps. 42.32969,-71.06634 The pinpoint shown on Google Maps is about 10 miles off. What am I doing wrong?
  3. I have my brand new Garmin 60CSx and I am ready to make the next investment for memory and maps. I hope to use the GPSr for 3 purposes: hiking in New England, auto routing in northeast US, and auto routing in Europe. With these three requirements what recommendations would you have for memory and mapping? Thank you
  4. OK, there are different "languages". I am not talking about entering coordinates into my GPS. I am trying to figure out how to enter coordinates that I have figured out from mystery caches and enter them onto google maps so I can locate them. When I enter the coordiates into the Google map URL there are consistently about 10 miles off. Is there some translation that I need to know about for the Google maps?
  5. I have played around with Google Maps but I don't understand why the coordinates shown on the cache page differ form the coordinates that are embedded in the URL that pops up when I click on "Geocaching.com Google Map" on the cache page.
  6. Recently I was involved in a multi-cache and came up with the final set of coordinates. It was too late to go to the final so I went home intending to go out the next day. As I don't have mappin gon my GPS I came home intending to enter those coordinates into Google Map or something similar so I could pinpoint the location. 2 questions: 1. Is it possible to directly enter coordinates into Google Maps and have the location highlighted? 2. Secondly, I notice the coordinates as shown on the caching pages are different from those on the URL when you open up page. Can someone explain that? Thanks
  7. Of the last ten caches I have found that listed travel bugs in them only 5 actually did. It seems that increasingly travel bug retrievals are not being posted properly. In fact, it isn't unusual to see a travel bug listed that has been missing for months. What is the proper protocol? In order to clean these mistaken travel bug listings up is it appropriate to post a note every time to the travel bug page saying that it wasn't in there? Or should you just ignore it and move on?
  8. I have been surprised to see several negative logs posted by caches on earthcache sites that have been closed down becuase they didn't meet the earthcache guidleines for education. Frankly, if there was no requirement for "finding" an earthcache they might as well be called virtual caches as all you have to do is say you were there and answer an easy question. I find that I am in disagreement with those who criticize the Earth Cache educational guidelines. These guidelines don't prevent visits to the area nor do they discourage enjoing the area. However, to log an official visit as an earthcache one must learn something about the area. Kudos to the rulemakers. I believe that in order to assist in the protection of these natural resources we need to be better educated. ALL caches contain a "challenge" of sorts before one has the right to "claim" the cache as found. Traditional caches require that we find the cache via coordinates. Puzzle caches require that we solve a puzzle. Virtuals require that we answer a question to prove our find. So, what is wrong with learning something as a prequisite to claiming an earthcache find?
  9. I am curious about what equipment is considered the "best". Best receiver (under $1000) Best map software Best paperless solution etc. I realize that this subjuect is very subjective, but I am curious to learn how experienced cachers will respond.
  10. I'm using my relatively old Garmin etrex Summit. I guess what I am trying to understand is why the distances bounce and if there is anything I can do to minimize it.
  11. The last several times I used my GPSr to locate a cache I found that it was acting strangely. As I neared the posted coordinates it alternately showed me anywhere from 10 feet to 100 feet away. This continued for an hour. I tried shutting down the device several times to reset it but this didn't solve the problem. In other words my "distance away" was bouncing around. What factors can cause this? And are there any measures I can take to minimize it?
  12. I've been using a simple Garmin Summit GPS and I am thinking of upgrading to a GPS that allows mapping. Can Mac users recommend Mac-friendly software and/or GPS devices that are compatible?
  13. I'm a Mac user. Are these programs available for Mac platforms?
  14. It would be cool to be able to see all your found caches visually represented on a map. Perhaps that is possible already?
  15. Is it possible to create a map of caches that I have found?
  16. I am looking for a description on how to create bookmarks. Also, is there a list of bookmarks that have been created that people wish to share?
