  1. I bought some new trackables and activated them. They are now "in the hands of the owner". But what actions must I take to place it in a cache I own to get its journey started?
  2. I’ve been geocaching since 2005. I’ve been through several iterations of GPS receivers. I currently have an Oregon 450t that is finally in need of replacement. I am considering a Garmin wireless model – either one of the GPSMAP 66 models or the Oregon 700. A few questions - I’ve heard read comments saying the wireless interface is awkward. I would appreciate comments about this. Also, does it quickly burn your iPhone battery down? The feature of the 66 series that I am disappointed in is the lack of a touchscreen. I almost feel like I’m regressing if I go back to buttons. I would appreciate hearing comments on that. The GPSMAP series says that it is Garmin’s most accurate model. Is it noticeably better for geocaching?
  3. I know how to overlay my GPX route over Google Maps. But how would I overlay the geocaches that are along the route?
  4. I'd like to be able to do so on a computer. I am planning a 230 mile section hike. I have a copy of the GPX of the trail. I'd like to be able to overlay the GPX tracks on a GC.com map and see what caches are nearby. Would you be kind enough to suggest a couple options for me? Much appreciated.
  5. Is there a way to take a .GPX file of a trail and overlay it on a geocaching map? In other words I'd like to be able to look at a map with my GPX track which is a mountain trail and see what geocaches are nearby.
  6. For some reason I am only able to log travel bugs/coins on a mobile device. Unable to do so on gc.com.
  7. I am having trouble logging trackballs because they do not show up in my inventory when I ma logging a found cache. I am logged in. What can I do to have my trackballs inventory show up on cache pages. By the way when I look at my trackballs inventory they are listed there. But there appear to be a way for me to log them as having been dropped off.
  8. I often access Geocaching.com from my iPad. I don’t use the app. I use the URL. When I open a map and touch a cache icon a new page opens up in the iOS app format. I don’t want to use the app format. I want the cache page to open in the desktop format as it has for many years. Are there any settings that will allow me to open the cache page in the format that opens when using desktop?
  9. Is there any way to write a pocket query to isolate caches by ZIP code or city/town? I am aware that it is possible to search for caches in a permitter around a coordinate but I would prefer to develop a list by a narrower objective. Thank you
  10. With the new app is it possible to see all the user's recent photos (as you could with the retired app) or must you slide through the individual logs to see all of the posted photos?
  11. Thanks to all the help. I said I'd report bac and I am slow in doing so. Someone mentioned Geocaching Toolbox as a reference. That was my savior on this one.
  12. Thank you. After fooling around with fixing the link and translating it it will be useful.
  13. Some great answers here. Thank you. Unfortunately I don't use an Android device so that app won't help me. I use iPhone and Mac OS. But the online Geocache Calculator may help me. I'm working on getting the coordinates to the three points and will report back here as I progress.
  14. Would appreciate some assistance on a cache that has me vexed. I have three waypoints. The cache owner has listed the distances from the three waypoints to where I will find the final. So I need to enter the three pairs of coordinates and draw a circle around each WP and find the intersections of the three circles. Can someone give me a nudge on what approach I can take. (I already tried using a paper map and using a compass to draw circles. But it isn't precise enough.) I am hoping someone can point me towards an application or website that I can use. thank you!
  15. The Lonely Caches function on project.gc.com is pretty cool. It generates a list of caches and ranks them based on last found date. You can also filter it down to country, state and county. But it does not help you identify caches that you have already found that might be a qualifier for a resurrection cache. If you're referring to this function, then it's not actually showing caches that haven't been found in a long time. That function categorizes something as "lonely" by dividing the age of the geocaches (in days) by the number of finds. For example, PGC ranks this cache as the 5th most lonely cache in my county, even though it was found 2 months ago. While they rank this cache as the 20th most lonely, even though it has been found in 3 years and is actually more 'lonely' than the cache ranked as 5th. The LonelyCache function on PGC is available to non-paid PGC users. Thanks for the correction.

  17. I'm not offended. GSAK seems to be the solution to issues. Unfortunately I am a Mac user.
  18. There are occasions when I want to create a Pocket Query on an irregular section of a map. Caches Along a Route doesn't always work for me. Is there a way to "lasso" an area on a map and collect the caches within that area? Thanks
  19. I contacted the wiki organizers to see if I could access a copy of the the Garmin wiki since it wasn't available online. They responded by saying that only the person who organized the specific wiki can authorize its provision to me. Does anyone have the email of the organizer of the Garmin 4XX wiki? The previous poster was right! Sometimes you should print out things as they are not available forever! Thank you!
  20. What happened to the Garmin 450t wikispace? When I go there it says the subscription expired. Did it move somewhere else? I found it a great resource.
  21. Are the maps usable in both NUVI's (route by route directions) and GPSr's?
  22. If I purchase a map from Garmin can I install the map on both my Garmin GPSr and my Garmin Nuvi? My Garmin GPSs Oregon 450t takes a micro SD card. I am curious as to whether I could make a copy of it and install the cards in both devices so I can use them at the same time. Thanks
  23. I'd like to track my progress towards some challenges. I realize that GSAK is a perfect tool for this, but GSAK is not available for Mac OS users. Is there another program (paid is OK) which will allow me to take the data from my found GPX file and parse it out into either a CSV file or some other Excel compatible format? thank you!
