This can't be the same as being Markwelled, the link is out of the forum [OTF]. Thank's for the input Fuzzy. I learned something.

  2. Generally, canines in the wild [Wolves, Fox, and Coyote] will avoid humans. This isn't necessarily so with feral dogs. Don’t show any fear. Standing and facing them may be your best defense. If you raise your arms in a spread eagle fashion, it may spook them and drive them off. If you would feel more comfortable, carry pepper spray or a walking stick. A rap on the snout with a stick will often send them whimpering. More drastic measures include a poke in the eye with the stick or carry a 9mm semi-auto if the law will allow it. My personal preference is to use the more benign remedies.

    Keep on Caching

As far as running out of topics, I don't think that will happen. Geocaching is evolving and the topics will evolve with it. I believe it was John Adams (or maybe Thomas Jefferson) that wanted to close the Patent Office because he said all the good ideas had already been invented (could someone please markwell me on that).

That would mean that NBC has TWO viewers.

your tone would help here... What do you mean by WE? I peeked at your profile and it looks as though with 0 hidden and 0 found, you cannot be including yourself.

Is there more to this story?

I read that Higgins has been a troll in our midst for the past month, hasn't been able to join in the real game, and now decides to vocalize a warning that we arn't playing right.

I have known some real Higgins' and you sir are no Higgins!

  6. the number of geocachers is very fluid as people drop in and drop out at a rapid rate. Lately there seems to be a growing number sticking with the sport.

To give you some guestimates - there are over 50,000 geocachers nationally. Wisconsin and Illinois each have about 1000 with about 100 active in their local caching sites. And, true to the Cheesehead Dave Theorum [73.8% of all statistics are made up on the spot], I am making a rough estimate here.

  7. You can locate these using any map with grid references. Mark the trail on the map, then mark selected waypoints along the trail. Determine the longitude and latitude for each WP in DD.ddd format. remember that longitude in the W. hemisphere is negative. Enter the coordinate sets in the appropriate boxes on the GC.com hide/seek page and it will return a list of caches with distance and bearing from the WP you have entered.

Using WP with L/L 39.480 -77.620 as an example, gives Stonewall Regiment cache 1 at 0.1mi N; A Monumental View at 1.4mi N etc.

Of course if you want to know which are viewed as the best, you will have to scan the logs or come to these forums for recommendations.

    Keep on caching!

  8. I hear you guys... Trudy is just as avid a cacher as the beast. While she was busy in the kitchen this morning, I suggested that I should go out and do a couple of caches to get out of her way... She responded with we are not going caching today. A little later I tried with the approach that I go pick up the grandchildren and take them out for a little caching before dinner. She responded with you are not going caching today. Oh well, there is tomorrow, and Saturday and Sunday. Arn't long weekends great?

    Happy Thanksgiving All.

  9. Today I am favoring No. 13, No. 02 and No. 31.

I realize that you are probably looking for more reasonably priced devices than these.. a good GPS will cost $50 Mil or more. icon_biggrin.gif

Now if you are looking to purchase a GPSr, then you want to consult with Joe: http://joe.mehaffey.com. he will give you the low-down on just about any model made. My personal feelings are that the Garmin Vista will give you the most bang for the buck.

  10. I have grown to be blase about the kind of remarks critical of our recognition of activities in other areas.

Agaric may be a bit dim-witted if he doesn't realize that he/she has answered the question in the first paragraph of his/her post: ...I cant figure out what geocaching.com caters to the U.S. market so much. I realize there are more people and more geocachers... keep in mind that it is US birds, US technology and US GPSrs that keep the sport going. We are willing to share these with the world... anyone with an interest. Now someone wants to be critical of the US website that supports it.

Let's not punctuate the geopolitical border that seperates these two great nations.

BTW Agaric would you like your geese back?

Some people have too much time on their hands!

Time? Time? did somebody mention Time? I hate Time! I'm always running out of time. You might think time is money! Take your time... Why can't I take someone else's time? On time? What is that? Mark time? With what? Does it require some special time pencil? Doing Time, Wasting time. I don't even wear a watch anymore. What's that? Sombody at the door? White Coats......... icon_eek.gif
