  1. I would suggest to try not letting others actions influence your game. Moving bugs around can be a really fun part of the game.
  2. I believe support@Groundspeak.com can help you get the activation codes. It's all different now, sorry. Toward the bottom of the geocaching.com pages you will find the help center. From there click on trackables then click on trackable basics then click on Buy and Activate toward the bottom of that page it describes how to recover an activation code.
  3. This one's been archived, but if you would like to have a look.
  4. Yes, one that immediately comes to mind is an older mystery cache which failed to factor in the equation of time that put the cache miles from the actual correct solution. It had been found for years without problem. I guess all the solvers made the same error so it never was corrected. That's a big part of the reason why checking your solutions against maps and satellite imagery is a good idea before heading for the door.
  5. It has a leading space that, for me, makes it not work.
  6. The Mary Hyde link in the e-mail I received seems to be broken.
  7. For what it's worth I received an e-mail about this on June twentieth.
  8. I am. The note in question is getting pretty ridiculous, really. I also edit it every time I need to decode ROT13 text that isn't in a hint. Perhaps loading to the archived cache page itself is the way to go from now on. I hate when that happens. If I had a nickel... I think the fact that kunarion's cache is unpublished is the difference.

  10. Yes. Laminated paper with a tracking number. First time I found one, I really felt cheated. You think you felt cheated, imagine the poor coin owner who's coins have gone missing enough to justify putting out proxies.
  11. Since I have only found the one, it's not difficult. I did have some browser bookmarked to keep track of them that way. It wrecks some of my stats and of course I have that odd state souvenir. I completely get the whole "not following the rules" thing, but I am just not sure how strictly they should be applied here. It is just a game after all.
  12. Webcams, virtuals and moving caches have been under a war of attrition for some time if anyone hasn't noticed. At some point (I'll hope far into the future) webcams and virtuals will fall above/below some arbitrary metric as noted for moving caches and meet the same demise. I will be sad to see them go just like I am with moving caches and feel fortunate to have found a moving cache in the wild as intended.
  13. No one ever said webcams were causing the same problems as moving caches. Doesn't matter, still a story that does not exist. Riiiight... Let me know the next time a virtual or webcam publishes in your area.
  14. "I'm hearing..." and "It's my understanding..." My two least favorite information sources. No one at HQ has ever talked about webcams causing the same problems as moving caches. There's no sense in trying to create a story where one doesn't exist. No one ever said webcams were causing the same problems as moving caches.
  15. What is the connection you're perceiving between webcams and moving caches? It's my understanding that they generate a lot of problems for the same people that perceived the moving caches to be a problem. May as well toss what's left of virtuals on the fire, too.
  16. You must drive a stake through its heart lest it rise again!
  17. I fear this doesn't bode well for webcam caches.
  18. Geocaching.com has an official app for iPhone that you can download for free. Just search for Geocaching in the App store. Be aware that the official app only shows "beginner" caches (for free) and may not even show the ones in the campground you will be staying.
  19. If you look closely at the first photo in the shop you can see the "Track at Geocaching.com" verbiage along the edge of the coin so that made me think the number is along the edge.
  20. The number might be along the edge somewhere.
  21. I think Groundspeak realizes that a database full of caches that look like these below, are detrimental to sustaining customers. Full? Is that a urine specimen? I think it's safe to say that this is exactly what we all want to see addressed with whatever method we can all agree on. Perhaps it's time to realize that the volunteer model for hides has run its course and it might be appropriate for GS to start placing caches for their customer base to find. Problem solved.
  22. The two logbook approach is interesting It can be a bit annoying to open a logbook and see that the letterboxers have obliterated all the geocachers sigs with a huge stamp.
  23. Does any of this mean that if you are stamping the logbooks then you are letterboxing and not geocaching? Since the stamp seems to be the important distinction then to be geocaching you must sign the logbooks not stamp them.
