Group Caching: Where do we draw the line in the sand?
fendmar replied to L0ne.R's topic in General geocaching topics
Here is a good example. If you were part of a team that climbed Mt. Everest, but didn't actually summit the peak, will you proudly tell your friends and neighbors and proudly display your great accomplishment on your profile page. If I watched a video of people summiting Everest I would not claim that I climbed the mountain. If I flew to Tibet and sat in the airport while the rest of the team made the climb I would not claim that I climbed the mountain. If I made it all the way to base camp, I still would not claim that I climbed the mountain. It seems that many would. I don't get that. -

I guess my question really is, how far from GZ can you be and still legitimately claim a find? -

I am not trying to antognize you, but I do have to wonder how you came up with this. I am certain those people who live streamed the cache feel just as legitimate as you claiming a 1/5 while standing on the ground and assuming no risk while filling that coveted slot on a grid. What's the difference? I am just trying to understand something that I can't get my head around. -

Whatever works for you. We all clearly play the game and interpret the "rules" differently. -

The sign about social distancing and good hygiene is already gone. -
The label from the product is pictured. It also lists glycerin as an ingredient and this stuff when shaken looks way to thin to have any glycerin. The labeling is a bit misleading since it is obvious, at least to my nose, that a large portion of this product is ethanol (white, unaged, high-proof tequila). I was shopping for alcohol since I use it as part of my poison ivy cleanup after being out on the trails as I believe the alcohol breaks down the urushiol.
-
I think maybe they are mixing isopropyl with ethanol to stretch the isopropyl. I don't even know if that's feasible just a WAG.
-
An interesting side note is that recently picked up some C4U Hand Sanitizer Alcohol Antiseptic 80% a product repurposed from a local distiller. It specifically states on the label "Contains Isopropyl Alcoho" (sic). Funny thing is that when you smell it it has the distinct smell of tequila. Bad tequila, but tequila for sure. Strange times.

The relevance being that there are many in this thread saying they will just go after apparently lonely caches seemingly oblivious to the fact that even though the online logs say one thing the situation at GZ could be something very different and they could be in for a nasty surprise. You just never know. Better just to stay home, flatten the curve, ad nauseam.
-
Prove it.
-
So you're saying you can guarantee with 100% certainty that no one has been to those caches without logging online or the paper log?
-
Exactly, but with a green light suggesting it's safe when in reality it's a hotzone.
-
There's just no way to tell when that cache was last handled even after checking the online logs. A CO, ghost-cacher or non-cacher could have handled it minutes before despite the online logs showing something else.
-
You realize the online logs and the physical logs are not necessarily an accurate reflection of when the cache was last visited by somebody infected.

Covid19 causing some parks to close

That top sign has been there for a few years now. As long as you follow the restrictions noted you are allowed to bring your gun to the gun range. Which looked to be open when I was through there and that seemed odd for sure. -
Wanna bet?

Covid19 causing some parks to close

George Bush Park is "closed", but there are plenty of people parked in front of the locked gates using the park in full view of officers and just across the street is Freedom Park which remains open at this time. Kind of surreal traveling through there on a Saturday afternoon and the park being mostly empty. -

Do you mean like speeding to get to a FTF? -
I see so many in here saying they just won't touch the caches, but I am certain you are still exposing yourselves. Have you passed by anyone on the way to the cache in your journey from your front door to gz, well aren't you exposing yourself to their aerosols. How far do you think the wind carries some of that. You might say well I am wearing a mask, but it is still going to get on your clothes, your phone and whatever else you might have with you. Will you completely disrobe in your airlock and disinfect everything before sheltering in place again. Basically, there's nothing you can do!

That Wherigo logo makes me think you could look at some of the playanywhere cartridges. Kind of geocaching without all that touching.
