  1. I use g7towin, I had no idea it could do that! Thanks! I want to create a route so the deviation indicators work and you don't just have to 'follow the breadcrumbs' -4ist
  2. I'm wondering if it possible to create a route that I can load into a Garmin GPSr from downloaded track data. I realize that I can do trackback, but much of the resulotion is lost, especially if it's a windy track like a backpacking trip going up a steep hill with many switch-backs. Any ideas? Thanks, -4ist
  3. Moonpup, X gets a square... I guess the discount is just in the email address. I stand corrected! The acronym is really LPME -4ist
  4. I've been playing email tag with Phil at lakepowelldiscountmarineelectronics.com. He added the accessory kit for the legend Cx to the website, and said they should be shipping the Cx within 2 weeks. While I am a conspiracy theorist about some things, I can say that I got great customer service from LPDME, and I don't work there. I was considering tigergps and megagps, but I ordered with LPDME because of the reviews I saw on this forum, and because they were indeed quick to respond. I'll post here again when I hear something new! -4ist
  5. I see the 60cx and 60csx models have shipped. Has anybody seen or heard of any of their pre-orders or new orders shipping yet? If so, please drop a line here! Thanks, -4ist
  6. I was reading some thread about making your own maps. Is it possible to grab a chunk of NG topo at 1:24 scale at convert it to a Garmin flavor graphic that the GPSr will understand? -4ist
  7. There's a thread that I was just refering to the other day before buying energizer 2500's. The title is Batteries - What Are You Using? originally started 12-16-05 at 02:19PM. You will find it listed by it's last modified date of 12-24-05 at 09:41AM. The thread was started by mattsarcastic. I found it very useful. Particularly the comparison data at the end of the thread. 8. And if you're wondering how to sell justify a new 'x' series garmin, just leave on the dash!
  9. I'm sure this has been asked previously, so please forgive me for representing the department of redundancy department... I'm going to order a Legend Cx and put a 512mb or 1gb card in it. Would I be better off with city select or city navigator? I know later on this year I won't have a choice anyway. Thanks! -4ist
  10. Downside to easygps is it doesn't manage track data. If that's not important to you, easygps is easy to use and has a nice frontend. There's expertgps, but that will set you back ~$60.(that's the price on the website anyway... ) If managing tracks is important, you can try g7towin. It's cheap(free) but it is a little tricky to get where you want to go. You can convert track data to .gpx format and pipe it to google earth for aerial views too. It looks like the Garmin Trip and Waypoint Manager does the same thing as g7towin, so go with what works best for you. There's also GSAK, but I haven't used it so I can't tell you much about it. Looks like it's worth a look if you're doing a lot of geocacheing. As Topografix said, look into your crystal ball as to where you're going with your GPS-ing before settling into a utility. Just a thought... -4ist
  11. So how much data can you put on a microsd card? I know that sandisk has right now up to 512mB and has plans to produce a 2gB card soon. If I wanted to put the whole city navigator / city select cd on a card, how much space would that need? same question for topo. What I'm driving at is this: I'm planning on retiring my garmin III+ and get the legend Cx. With that I'm planning on mapsource topo, and city select or city navigator (which ever winds up being the better choice) in the auto nav kit to get the other stuff that goes with it for not too much more. Would I be better off getting the cd's and loading them onto a microsd card or getting the cards preloaded w/ CN/CS and topo? I know there's still 24mB of internal memory which is certainly enough to capture the track data that I collect anyway... pro's? con's? thoughts? bueller?.... -4ist
  12. I've seen a few places that say that the legend Cx will come with a 32MB trans flash card. Does this mean that is the biggest that it will support? Could I put a 512MB card in there? Perhaps we won't know until Garmin releases the product. I'm also wondereing if City Navigator would be a better choice than City Select, being that Garmin will aparrently discontinue CS in favor of CN soon anyway... What do you think the crystal ball says? -4ist
  13. I was doing my homework before providing santa w/ my wish list and after researching the Legend C, I was sold. Yeah the 60C has a bigger screen and more memory, but for what I will use it for, the Legend C will be fine. But then I heard about the Legend CX. Seems like the same package, but with removable memory. So I got a rain check from santa and I'm just waiting until they're available. That said, the price of the Legend C is dropping a bit, so you may be able to find a good deal. Perhaps look at froogle.com... Good Luck! -4ist
  14. Another way is to download g7towin. You can download waypoints, tracks, and routes. Under the save as option, you can save in a number of formats. If you're going to be using Excel to pipe it to some other ap like streets and trips, use .CSV. I f you're going to be piping to google earth, save as .GSX. There are a number of ways to do it; this is just another one that nobody has listed yet.... -4ist
  15. I'm actually doing my homework for when the Legend Cx and 60Cx comes out, but my questions should relate directly. Has anybody had the Legend C and 60C that could give me a comparison? Things they liked/disliked? Or mabey had a Legend C and took it back in favor if a 60C... The things that concern me is the screen size and also antenna performance. How much better is the 60C than the Legend C? Is the ~$120 worth paying? Thanks in advance... -4ist
  16. Thanks for all the responses. It looks like amazon is the best deal so far... -4ist
  17. I got the nod from Mrs. Claus to wait until the Legend CX comes out, but in the mean time I want to pick up some mapsource software - Topo and City Select. I've seen plenty on ebay for ~$75. Are there any gotcha's that I should be aware of before buying anything that looks too good to be true? What places might be better than others to buy? Thanks! -4ist
  18. Hello group, I've been looking at the garmin site and can't figure out which garmin product is best for being able to find addresses for a legend c(or cx). City Select? City Navigator? Metroguide? Any advice appreciated... -4ist
  19. I got a Bass Pro Shops catalog today that is advertising the Legend C for $199.99. Yeah, and if you can wait a bit, you can get the Legend Cx with removable storage... -4ist
