  1. I reckon that the type of dog owners that would frequent a doggy forum are the type that would not have troublesome dogs. But just because my daughter woke me up early and I can't get back to sleep (she however is in her pushchair snoring loudly!)... http://www.dogownerforum.com/ http://www.dogfriendlybritain.co.uk/ http://www.dogchat.co.uk/ and my personal favorite (mainly cos I read it as 'dogging mania') http://www.dogomania.com/forum.php Some people obviously have strange hobbies.
  2. I was out caching the other day when a car raced past me going way too fast. I think we should all discuss irresponsible car drivers ad nauseum as well. Or maybe we should do as Stuey suggests and stick to the true subject of these forums. Ooooh don't even get me started on the standard of driving these days!!! % before I moved (and discovered geocaching) about 50 % after I moved about 10 Where I used to live and go walking there were a higher number of dog owners who didn't have a clue for some reason and after being attacked, jumped on, barked at and 'played' with My fear of dogs increased to a level where I didn't want to go walking anymore. Now I'm slowly getting over that fear but only because I force myself to go out and try to ignore dogs.
  3. Next time a dog comes at me ('Oooh, he's only playing' is a favorite of mine) I'll ask the owner to get me a can of that as there's no reason I should pay out for other peoples lazyness. On a slightly more serious note ... http://www.naturenet.net/law/dogs.html is a good read that I like to point people to. It does only apply to England and Wales though.
  4. This kind of thing is a weekly occurance for me and the owners response really doesn't surprise me that much. I've almost given up telling owners they need to control their dogs just becuase of the way they react to me (I'm never rude about it).
  5. Sorry about the necroposting but I'm getting this exact problem, did you (or anyone for that matter) find out what the problem was or if there was a fix?
  6. Ok I know this is off topic but I feel the need to mention it. Geekyninja (and other young cachers) just because you do not have your own car it does not restrict you from caching. I'm fortunate to have a car but due to the economy and price of petrol I often take the pushbike out caching and this doesn't restrict me at all. I live on the very edge of Northampton and transport links are basicly poo so to get anywhere takes a bit of effort. I'm originally from SE London and the number of times I hear people from within the M25 complaining they can't get anywhere is crazy ... Busses, trains and (in the case of the OP) tube trains abound and can get you the other side of the city in just an hour. So kids, in short, stop being lazy. Right, that's that done with, SSSI's .. as others have said, in the case of the carpark the underlying geology may be protected or there may be a rare or threatened species of plant in the car park. As for the location of the caches in question, you guys are very lucky to have the ancient woodland of epping forest on the doorstep and even more fortunate to be able to place caches in it. The simple fact that there is ancient woodland may be the reason for there being a SSSI (as pollution from cars massively affects trees). The reviewer isn't aware of why it is SSSI and shouldn't be expected to know each SSSI in their area so they fall back on their guidlines and deny the cache if it is in a SSSI, sounds fair to me.
  7. One mans junk is another mans treasure. Who's to say your beaver pond is so interesting? As for your spectacular view, well that's just a valley of trees... etc etc etc. Just my opinion.
  8. Indeed it is, and I can't blame a typo just stupidity.
  9. Whilst I agree to a certain extent that there are too many in some places, surely in order to have your arguement taken seriously you need to have found at least one cache in your three years of membership?
  10. If you're willing to spend on an iphone then you should be able to afford a paperless caching GPSr (got my Garmin Dakota 10 for £140). Failing that try GSAK/net. great program that is very customisable.
