  1. Aloha, I have really gotten into releasing trackables (travel bugs and geocoins) and have come across the ever dreaded disappointment of having the item stolen, missing or disappeared, especially right after it gets released into a cache. i also tend to be a bit of a stickler when it comes to caches showing that a trackable is listed but when you get there its not in the cache. I have come to "deal" with these things, but as such I personally wanted to make sure that my trackables travel and created a fun an unique way of re-releasing my trackables by using a bottle cap type tag and placing the trackable number in it and attaching it to a color photo copy of the trackable (either a picture of the original travel bug item or the front and back sides of a geocoin). While some people frown on this practice (i.e. sending out proxies), it is up to the individual person as to if they want to release a proxy and/or if they will move a proxy. I will not get into that debate as I clearly have fun releasing even my proxy coins and tags and watching them travel. What I am writing is to offer my services of creating proxies to resurrect a lost, stolen, missing, disappearing trackable at no charge, but simply to see them back in action again. I am posting a few examples so you can see what would be created and you can decide for yourself if you want to contact me or not. Here are a few things regarding this free service: 1) The proxy will be released in Hawaii, I will not spend money to send it anywhere. If you would like me to send it somewhere, the cost to package and ship would be on you. On some occasions I can release them when I travel, but I would ask you if you would prefer it prior to releasing. 2) I will ONLY release proxies where the owner of the trackable to be released is the same person to contact me. I will not make proxies that are requested by someone other than the owner. 3) I will not make proxies for any trackables that are in a race. Since I will be releasing them in Hawaii, they will gain miles on them from their last logged site to Hawaii and this is an unfair advantage to others in the race. 4) I am not the person making the decision that your trackable has gone missing. If you think two weeks is enough and want a new one released, I have no problems in doing such at your request. I will not get into a debate as to how long an item goes without being logged to consider it missing. You decide if it is missing. not me. 5) I am open to your requests of colors, other items to be attached, adding a laminated info card that has the trackable name and goal on it and even printing it in other languages, but there is only so much I can do, so please make the requests reasonable. If after all this you would like to be a part of this project, please contact me via PRIVATE MESSAGE with the following and DO NOT POST that information here: Geoname: Traackable webpage number:(i.e. TBXXXXX) Trackable name: Tracking number: (number on tag or on geocoin) Special requests I will get back to you as soon as I can. Again, this topic is not a place for ranting and raving. I am simply offering a service. If you like it, use it. If you don't, don't use it. I am simply here to help trackables keep on the move.

  3. Possible ones: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=2175479 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=3287000 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1235829 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1663296 just thought I would try to help.
  4. I agree with MrsB. Do the best you can to see if you can remember the name, or what it looked like and see if it is showing in the inventory of the cache you visited when you found it. If you find its page by doing that you can write a note or you can contact the owner too and explain what happened. If you are crafty, you can offer to make a proxy tag for them and if they want you to do so request that they message you with the trackable number. You can make a proxy tag by simply printing out the picture of the trackable and writing the trackable number on the back and laminating it. Some people would love this and other wouldn't bother to even reply to you. the best thing is that you are making an effort to let the owner know and taking responsibility for it. As a trackable owner, I would much rather be told the truth that someone lost it and then I can send out a proxy or that it had not been seen in a cache so that I can make attempts to track it down. And welcome to the world of geocaching!
  5. love them! I think I might need to buy more
  6. Thanks for adding me to the project. I am in Hawaiion the big island, so it might be harder to get people involved, but might be a fun event to do like the smaller event (November 12, 2013 - which is a Tuesday, but I can set it up on one side of the island) and then big event (December 13, 2013) which is Friday the 13th and can be set up in a central location. The only other option on the numbers for us would be December 11, 2013 and I am not that fond of wednesdays. I will look at the info you sent and set up my colors.
  7. Got mine...LOVE THEM! Mahalo!
  8. sent you a message but reply to pixie address as the other one is my hubby
  9. if the one activated is in his ownership and can be adopted over, no problem; otherwise i would assume the winning bidder should contact VERO@ebay.com. Well at least someone got some answers... This one went for $187 scary...http://www.ebay.com/itm/Geocoins-VERY-UNIQUE-Geocoins-/190832711026?
  10. thank you for this...I couldn't find the right one to report it from. I did this on all 5 of the auctions. It might not go anywhere, but I feel better about reporting this guy.
  11. Did anyone else notice that all his auction also state that the items are "NEW"
  12. I agree, if you can try to get somewhere with Ebay about it.
  13. This was mine after I gave him the information that he needed to check the tracking numbers and the website references to policy and procedures as well as adoption... "Do me a favor DO NOT BID!" It is obvious that with at least this many people contacting him about it and with his replies that he does not care if he is selling something that is not his. It doesn't matter if he got it at an auction or estate. If the collection was from an estate, then he should at least follow the procedure to claim ownership of the items before selling but the seller doesn't want to take responsibility for his actions. I wish I had the time and money to bid on all of those auctions to force him to sell them to me so that I can report him. Its a shame, but the particular auction that I wrote him about is now up to $60!
  14. You were the one who bought Sporty! Great gesture! That was the TB I was referencing above that I also contacted the owner telling him that Sporty was being sold on Ebay. I tried to report the auction, but Ebay was not letting me since I was not law enforcement nor the owner of the item being sold. I commend you though for buying Sporty and putting him back out for the 4 year old who owns him. I just hope that the more this is reported people will begin to get it that true cachers will not tolerate stolen property.
  15. Just to note...much of that person's track record is of buying not selling items.
  16. As I stated...buyer beware...ane that without putting down the full facts of the coins on the auction it coukd be percieved as stealing. In the case of the travel bug I found the tracking number was on it and I contacted the owner and it HAD been stolen. In addition, I wrote and asked if the coins were activated and if so if they were adoptable and the response was that he didn't know, wasn't the original owner and didn't know how to adopt them. I then responded that he should check out the website, gave him links to understand and look up the coins by trackable numbers to assure that they were properly available. The response back to me was ...do me a favor and don't bid on them. If they were gotten at an auction house or estate. Be responsible and understand the property you are selling. I gave him all the info to take responsibility for his auction. If he chooses to ignore it, that's fine. If someone chooses to bid, they do so at their own risk. I an merely stating that auctions like this are misleading and could be considered stolen.
  17. I had one that had a goal of going to the most remote geo places that were hard to get to. This was abit hard as there are definitions of what "remote" might be, but it was fun placing it in another hard to get to place.
  18. Two concepts: One I have tried and the other I am working on... Tried: Sent out trackables dedicated to my father with a few small laminated pictures of him on it with the goal to have my dad travel to as many places as possible and take pictures. Not many people take pictures but on of them has traveled over 20,000 miles. I released 5 in a series in all of the places that his ashes were spread and on the days when his ashes were spread. On the trackable website page I included, "for those who know may know this man, please email me and let's talk story" It may not go anywhere regarding anyone actually knowing him, but its fun to watch. dedications to loved ones who have passed are nice or you might try a geneology one to see if people know info on your family geneology if you are into that. Working on: Cat tag. putting a plastic cat toy on a trackable for it to visit as many cats as possible and take pictures with the cat. This can be done with any pet or any animal for that matter. Main thing is to creatively think of a goal...somewhere between too general (to travel) and too specific (to get to the Empire State Building). Its more to pick up travel bugs and help them along their goals. Another idea is to get a theme together: travel bug is a rabbit...have it travel around and ask people to post easter or spring traditions or go to caches around botanical gardens, etc. Or yet another: have a theme on a sport, event, pasttime: have the bug travel to football stadiums or theatres or follow something like the Oregon trail or the some other historical person who has been to a lot of places and post what that person was doing there. Put laminated pictures or little plastic or durable trinkets that signify the theme. It gets people interested and maybe they learn something, just like some of the geocaches you go to. That is a part of the point is to explore and learn. Main thing I noticed is that if you have a goal, try to somehow also post it either on the bug itself or on an attached tag so that people who pick it up will know before it goes with them if they can help move it in the right direction.
  19. Aloha, I have been watching some listings on Ebay since I found a person selling an "activated" travel bug that s/he did not own. I think this is very appalling that people would steal trackables and coins and list them for sale on Ebay. Here's an example of ones that I have already contacted that responded to my query that they are not the original owner, they do not know how to activate coins or if the coins listed are currently activated and that they do not know the process of adoption. I have responded that if they are not familiar with the coins that they need to read up on them and gave them the link as they could be perceived as stealing coins and they should look up the ones that they have by tracking number to make sure of their status, but please be aware that this practice is going on. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Geocoins-for-Geochaching-7-coins-/190832703353?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6e83f779 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Geocoins-for-Geochaching-7-coins-/190832703353?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6e83f779 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Geocoins-5-coins-Chace-Police-Badges-/190832707617?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6e840821 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Geocoins-VERY-UNIQUE-Geocoins-/190832711026?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6e841572 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Challenge-Coins-and-Colletable-Coins-9-coins-total-/190832720154?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6e84391a Due to the stuff I have seen on trackables being lost, if you buy on Ebay, make sure that the item is clearly listed as being unactivated or activated AND adoptable before bidding or buying. Hope this helps!
