  1. One last thing. I found out today that Librans take arguements VERY seriously. Now can anyone guess my starsign? I guess that makes it all my parents fault then! As a project manager, it reassures me to know that my ability to blame others for my shortcomings is still intact!
  2. quote:Originally posted by The Northumbrian:I apologize to you all for what I have wrote, It was a heat of the moment thing, there are times when I write things and after a few hours realize that I have been offensive not just to one person but to all of you. I have totally over reacted to some of the things that the Icenians have wrote and offer my humble apologies, I seem to bite too much normally because I get the idea that people are out to disrupt this hobby, and I hate to see things knocked back by others towards a lot of very good people that have given a lot of time to only be of help towards the hobby.perhaps I should give things a few hours before I reply to topics. I know it's not much in the way of an apology but , again to those of you those I have offended, "sorry" Nige The Northumbrian is a member of The Geocaching Association of Great Britain I reckon I'm just as guilty at offending people and typing without due care and attention. quote:Originally posted by jstead:I'd be delighted to buy both of you a pint of proper ale if we ever get together. Oh dear what have I done - that could lead to something expensive! Now as it happens, I'm over your way as well soon..... Right I really must clear off from here now as this isn't supposed to be my caching site.
  3. quote:so I hope you dont have the cheek to find any of mine that are listed on Geocaching.com cos I will just delete your log. Naaa. I'm just on holiday. There are no N*vic*che caches up there. I'll pass on the pint though. Kev
  4. quote:Originally posted by Moss Trooper:As for the drink.. sorry I can't.. I'll be sunning my self in Ireland!!!!!! Maybe next time.
  5. I have apologised to Moss T by email but feel that I ought to do it publically as well. Moss, I don't have any vedetta against anyone in geocaching as a whole, the admin of any site, nor with any member of the GAGB either at committee, founder, or normal member. As I said in my email to you, I seem to have a problem with comunication on this medium and I need to improve that. I would like to apologise for any stress, aggravation, or hurt I have caused you over this recent debate or in the past. By the way, I'll be in your neck of the woods mid August, maybe I could buy you a pint and start some kind of reconsilliation. Kev
  6. quote:Originally posted by L8 Ed: quote:Rubbish! The service is the website the caches are the content. I don't agree. Anyone who places a cache is doing a service to other cachers. GC.com is a place you can advertise them free. BT offer a service, They advertise in all forms of media even media that has pulled them to bits in the past. People who get into the soap box have their say and leave do not deserve to be taken seriously in my view. Whatever. You have your view I'll stick with mine. I'm happy with my reasons.
  7. quote:Originally posted by L8 Ed:No it is not.As you are the provider of the Caches you place. You do not pay anything for this. And you deprive people who use GC.com of your caches. So if its a bit like anything, it's like BT taking the hump, and cutting you off because you said that the service was bad. Rubbish! The service is the website the caches are the content.
  8. quote:Originally posted by L8 Ed:Icenians quit and pulled off their caches from GC.com. I don't normally post here any more but this is wrong. I haven't quit geocaching just choose to use another provider. If you don't like your phone company you change to another one. That's all I've done.
  9. I have to apologies for this thread and my dig at the guidelines above. This was written last night after a few too many. Please take the remark as an example of someone saying the wrong thing while under the influence. My humble apologies once again. Isn't there an embarressed icon?
  10. quote:Originally posted by The Land Ranger:Is it just me or is this guy being a "dick" ? Icenians, tell us what was the last thing you did to benifit the caching comunity as a whole ? Highlighted some issues with the GAGB, placed a number of caches in an area that had none. quote:when you can say that you have done something you might have some grounds to criticise Untill then why not be a nice person. 0 placed, 0 found, 2 posts. Nuff said
  11. Now what do we get for our £20? Not sure I'm still a charter member but I seem to remember I get pocket queries. On the other site I get XML feeds for nothing. Much better value.
  12. Nice to see the advances the GAGB is making. The guidelines to get a cache on HCC land means you can know place a cache on any off the footpaths so long as you get permission from the landowner. And if you ask the land manager at any of their countryside sites you can place a cache there as well. Big step forward then. We can place caches so long as we get permission. I'm so glad that these adavances are being made in the game.
  13. quote:Originally posted by THE BRAMBLERS:Camping is for helpers only. Perhaps someone should update the cache page as it says campng is available and doesn't restrict it to helpers
  14. Just in case you don't read the other sites forums. How's this for hypocrisy from a site that insists you don't post commercial caches. Commercial cacheMight help explain why my caches won't appear here again
  15. quote:Originally posted by L8 Ed:----------------Icenians--------------------- I don’t agree that you should make your point then naff off. Very bad form. Stick to your guns and carry on. Or we will be left with ….. well you know what. The game needs people like you for a balanced view. ***NOT*** a Member of or Supporter of Geocaching Association of Great Britain****** Oh I'm still here. I haven't left the game!
  16. quote:Originally posted by MCL:- Maybe because you had got ticked off with people in these forums. Possible, but no reason to withdraw from Jeremy's site because of Us lot, who are nothing to do with Jeremy. In that instance, you would witdraw from these forums, but not from GC.COM - Maybe because of the GAGB "thing". Possible, but again, nothing to do with Jeremy's GC.COM site, so no reason to take it out on him. I never meant this to end up as an explaination of my reasons for leaving gc.com as I feel that people that make grand announcements like that are usually looking for sympathy etc. I was just adding to a thread my concern that people could be taking over caches that the original placer was still looking after but through another site. To answer the reason for leaving it is mainly due to the GAGB thing. I don't want to explain those reasons via the forums as that will probably just kick off another round of grief. And yes, I do still check out these forums and the activities of the GAGB because I am still playing the geocaching game.
  17. quote:Originally posted by washboy:I hadn't realized you'd abandoned gc.com but I think it's a great shame. I'm not the first and probably not the last quote:Unless you have a major problem with the way Jeremy Irish runs things No reason to have any problem with Jeremy. His site his rules and they are pretty much as when I started. quote:or with the cachers who do use gc.com then I, for one, would ask you please to reconsider. It would be a great pity if the furore which surrounded the launch of GAGB resulted in an even greater net loss to the UK cacheing community. My feelings on the GAGB are well known here and there is little point in going through them again. As I said before, the game goes on, caches get found and approved. The disaster and death of the game didn't happen as predicted by some. My caches are still there for people to find and log just with another site.
  18. I would suggest people tread carefully before adopting caches that are still in place and archived on GC.com. This is the case with all of mine but that doesn't mean I have given up the game. I just choose to move to another listing site. I would be very upset if someone took over my caches without my permission.
  19. All the way to Peru from Norfolk via Glasgow, Amsterdam, and Aruba. 4 days trek along the Inca Trail, couldn't get at the one in Ollyantambo, someone had swiped the Macchu Picchu ones, I forgot to hide mine at Dead womans pass, and to cap it all, someone was a few days behind me placing loads of new ones. Agggghhhhhhh!!
  20. quote:Originally posted by 2oldfarts (the rockhounders):I have a suggestion...Locate a benchmark that is listed on Geocaching.com & place your cache on top of it. Use the given coordinates of the benchmark for your cache. VOILA-you have a viable cache with correct datum. It would be cheaper to buy the GPSr. Benchmarks don't exist outside the US on GC.com.
  21. Just a thought Iwuzere, Is there a Dixons over there? They have a no quibble money back in 14 days thing I believe. You could buy a GPS, place the cache, and return the GPS all in a day. Alternativly, is anyone going there on holiday this summer? Why can't people help the guy out instead of kicking him? I think it's completely reasonable for someone to not go out and buy all the kit first. The parachuting and hang gliding analogies are wrong. You will not find many people in the world that bought either a parachute or hang glider for their first jump/flight. You can't get experience of caching without caches and you can't borrow a GPS if you don't know someone who has one. Catch 22 (or should that be cache 22) I reckon your best bet is to do a couple of offset caches as suggested earlier. The coords of a carpark can be very rough and I've seen plenty of caches like that. Don't take the attitudes of people on these forums as indicative of all people in the game.
  22. Plant a few and wait a bit. They multiply in the end. As for finding a certain number first, someone had to start. Just follow the guidelines, put some effort into the initial location and content, and others will follow.
  23. Have you tried talking to Garmin? From the sounds of it they are good and sorting this sort of thing out. I know you don't want the get a new one type of suggestion but it does sound like something is loose inside.
  24. quote:Originally posted by Team Spike:I jsut had to reply to this. What do you think geocaching.com is? And yes, I know there are other sites, but they are pretty dead. It's a website and a database where I can post a cache or log a find. The rules they have are for putting a cache in their database. Bit different from representing but that's an old arguement I'm not going back down. Everyone in this forum already knows my feelings on that.
