  1. MIXED NEWS! Well, we finally were able to get out to the site of the Eyerly Fire here in North Central Oregon. The preliminary reports were true. Nature in Balance geocache is burned up. We placed a new microcache near the old one to commemorate the original: Out of the Ashes: Ode to Nature in Balance We also went up to the site of one of our first caches, The Quest for the Holy Grail Although the cache itself survived, the area was burned in spots, and the initial waypoint was vaporized, along with the large snag that the film canister was tucked in. Sad to say that snag had an osprey nest way up in the top of it, and that of course is gone too. We archived the cache, moved the ammo box and made new waypoints to it, this time out of metal tags. The new cache is Out of the Ashes: The Quest Lives! Please check out all of the sites, as I put up quite a few pictures we took of the aftermath of the wildfire.
  2. Sounds like it is time for Snazz to head south to rescue the poor lugnut. We hadn't planned on doing another K Falls run soon, but if we do, we will check to see if Rusty is around for retrieval.

  4. I won't be visiting either Port Orford or the Hillsboro area soon, but wishing you luck on getting that bug and getting it to your friend. What a great surprise that would be, and would demonstrate how SMALL our world really is! Good Luck!

  9. Seriously. I mean, this guy Donman.. I don't know him, but he seems to have produced some fun caches, and I read his farewell statement. Why, in the heck, would someone dog him? Donman, if you are around, could you answer a few questions for me? Do you KNOW who this person is? Is it someone who had a problem with you before? Did you ever delete a log of theirs perhaps that would cause them (being somewhat insane) to fly off the handle? Maybe someone else knows? I had an experience with someone who apparently doesn't like me.. lurking in a chat room and taking notes about me, then threatening me, my home and my husband. I think this is truly creepy behavior.. and that may be what Donman feels, totally creeped out. I don't know.. I just wonder.. how can someone you don't even know have the power to stop you from doing what you love to do?

  11. Do you use any sort of GPS for work?
  12. haha! I got 7/10 on the United States one, and the only one I could get on the Canada one was Victoria. Who knew that they mean Portland, MAINE? Or Columbia the CITY and not he Columbia River That is hard without some natural features! Sortof like throwing darts. The coastal ones are the easiest!

  14. Don't do what I did. You end up at some french site with a much too happy anime-looking geek cartoon. I do sortof like their COGEO logo though.

  16. Do you run an internet service of some sort? This is like a dream come true! I don't know what all I can contribute, other than I am online ALL the time when not geocaching! I also have been having fun with graphics, and think I have a little bit of an eye for it. Maps are more my thing, but this digital camera work is way fun! Navdog is my hero! Maybe one of the first things we could do is find out all the agencies of places there are CO caches and either define their policy or figure out a system of getting ahold of them. We can be progressive in how we do this, so that we don't give geocaching a bigger black eye than it has had recently. I would also like to have some get togethers, maybe create a group name and place caches under that name, perhaps COGEO or something. I like that by the way! I think the idea about sharing hints is grand. I have one already for a good deal on glossy photo paper. Well, since we live in the toolies, I hate paying top dollar for good glossy paper, that comes in the 8 pack for $10. Well this week I saw that Bi-Mart is carrying a more generic brand (Hammermill) I think, and it is 20 sheets for 2.99. Way better!! They also have regular bond and canvas paper for around the same price. Maybe something cool would be if we could have a logo contest for COGEO and see what folks come up with. I am not sure how you would judge it, or who would, but just a thought. Maybe on cache pages or member pages we could include the logo as an affiliated with type thing. PS Snazz what happened to your old photo? I liked to see your grin! Now it is your backside walkin away! (or someone elses) LOL

  18. Now I understand about the stickers and the (wink winks) about them. We are also offended by the fees, and it doesn't seem that the money is going to the right places. Our poor truck has never seen so many washboard roads, especially around Century Drive. I know at Sparks Lake the FS person approached us last year because we didn't have the blue slip in our window. We begrudgingly paid, but had only wanted to stop by to SEE the spot, not spend the day, using the bathroom and/or camping or trashing the place! I think the system could definately use some work. I am just as happy (when not seeking caches, as we have already got most of them there) to got to the Ochocos. Lot less folks, nicer FS people. As far as my name, I have a cat named Zoey, and since she sleeps alot, it became Zzzoey illDRIVEuNav is just a good description of hubby's role while caching. He has that car sickness thing where he gets sick only if he isn't driving (yeah likely) so he always does the driving. He also makes sure we stop for food at various times of the day. I would forget if it weren't for him. Since I love and obsess over any and all maps I can get my hands on, and pretty much always have, our setup works pretty good. I also operate the GPS, or get it directed toward a cache and give it to him, which can be frustrating, as his stride is about 5 times as long if he has that little piece of electronic equipment in his hand! 20. I love beer Well a quick search.. and I come up with these: Deschutes Brewery.. easy one.. downtown Bend last I checked. My fave is Black Butte Porter. Bend Brewing Co-Bend: http://www.sharplink.com/bbc/ Nicknamed the BBC-I like the Metolius Golden Ale for a light summer beer. They also have had some success brewing their own vodka and gin (and since gin comes from Juniper berries-what could be a better locale than Central Oregon?) Cascade Lakes Brewery/Redmond :http://www.cascadelakes.com/ they have yummy beers, my favorite, monkey face porter! The 7th Street Brewhouse is their showcase brewpub, has great food and of course the beer! It is on Canal Blvd not far from Fred Meyer in Redmond. Hope that helped.
