  1. I normally select a few caches by adding them to a list and then, using Garmin Express, transfer the list to my GPSMAP64s. Now I cannot be certain whether or not they will show as caches or waypoints. Over the past week I have experimented with this and I don't think it's me that's going daft!! I can send a list across and the GPS will show the items as caches. I can then send some ore across and they will become waypoints along with those already sent, so not only are the caches being converted to waypoints but something is converting those already on the unit. It's all very hit and miss and I cannot predict the outcome of any transfer, it's just annoying as waypoints don't allow me to access the full cache information. I got rid of a previous GPSMAP62stc because of this problem. Could it be a software error as I've just had an update?? Anyone else got this problem as any help would be most appreciated.
  2. We're more traditional cachers; we love finding a box and having a good rummage around inside and always carry a bag of 'swaps' for such an occasion. We like to ramble across fields for miles with our dogs but just lately there's a preponderance of nanos around the town that cause havoc with our searching. Now, each to their own and some must love these incy wincy tiny containers but they just aren't for us. How do I search for caches nearest to home and exclude all those nanos which we either don't want to look for or have looked for and haven't found? I'm sure there's a way but I just cannot find it. Any help would be very welcome. Thank you.
  3. Thanks to all who replied; at least I now understand why I've been getting the 'strange' readings. I have been using GPXView on my Axim X5 but I'll give some of the others a try and see how I get on. I think I'll also try Patty's suggestion and have just bought a Tungsten T5 to link up to my Mac - I'd much rather move away from the PC if I can. So, once again, thanks to all. Once it's stopped raining I'll download some co-ords and get out again to do some more caching. Yvonne
  4. I am a Mac user but at the moment I'm having to use my PC laptop as my Dell Axim X5 doesn't speak Mac! I was about to buy a Palm PDA but am holding out until I can sort out this problem. I've just recently decided to try using the PDA instead of carrying around sheets of paper whilst roaming the countryside. Having successfully and easily set up Pocket Queries and had the GPX files emailed to me it was a doddle to transfer to the PDA. But last week, in the middle of a forest, on rechecking the co-ordinates I realised that those contained within the file are all corrupted. Luckilly I was carrying the sheet of paper so was able to find the cache. For example two sets of co-ords were translated as: N52 29.150 E000 53.408 became N52.48583 E0.89013 N52 24.809 E000 44.770 became N52.41348 E0.74617 Is this common and will I still have to carry round a ream of paper? I have tried both zipped and unzipped files but this has made no difference. Also the caches are ordered descendingly and not nearest first. If anyone can help I'd be grateful for all suggestions. Does this problem exist with Palms as well - I've even thought about buying an integrated GPS and PDA such as a Mio, but I'm more than happy with my splendid Garmin eTrex Legend HCx. Many thanks in advance. Yvonne
