  1. There is a map segment limit of 2025 segments. The only thing this effects in a big way is using the Topo maps. Usually with the Topo maps the limit will be reached well under the 1GB level, so a 2GB card is kind of a waste. As has been mentioned though if you are using CN the whole US will fit with space left over. Rick
  2. I wonder what the bottom line is going to be after you finish subscribing to the XM and what ever other services it will take to use everything they are proposing? But, it SURE does look nice!! Rick
  3. That's the answer! The 60/76 series using the SIRF chip set is "levels" above the older Garmin's for pick-up in wooded areas (and any place else)!
  4. I've always used track up, no real reason, just like it better.
  5. There shouldn't be any reason why since the 76 "guts" are close to , or the same as, the 60 series and the 2 GB cards work in the 60's. Just stay away from anything marked Ultra, and remember there is still (at least on the 60) a 2025 map segment limit. Rick
  6. Again, not to be mean, doing a search will get you more answers than you can use. The current real limit is map segments. You can only load 2025, no matter what size memory card you are using. I'm currently using a (Sandisk) 2GB card with all of CN8 and some selected topo maps on it. If you are loading a whole bunch of topo maps go with a 512 or 1 GB since you will run up against the map segment limit long before reaching a actual memory limit. Hope this helps. Rick
  7. You should do a search and you'll find plenty of information already here. The short answer is no, the only limit is 2025 map segments. Some folks are even using 2 gb cards. Also stay away from the high speed (Ultra II) cards........ They DON'T work. Rick
  8. As I'm typing this I'm loading all of City Navigator (Non-NT) onto a Sandisk 2 gb card. I had all of the east on a 1 gb card and decided to go to the 2. I figure I'll use the 1 gb for sections of topo maps when I want them. As has been mentioned numerous times if you stick with Sandisk, but stay away from the Ultra II series cards you should have no problems. Rick
  9. OK, I had a Legend (Not Cx) and it was SO bad I replaced it within 6 months. I did a 10k hike in deep woods, when I had a signal it was at 30+ meters, and the total distance registered was about 4.5 k for the hike. I did, however, reach speeds in excess of 300 KPH! Rick
  10. Ahhhh, That's not so great. I was WALKING in the woods with mine once and clocked 300+ MPH! (That's when I decided it was time for a change - to 60CSx!) Rick
  11. I have to plead ignorance on the card spec you mention above, but since you mention "faster cards" I'll take a shot that you are talking about the type of card that Sandisk calls Ultra II. If this is in fact true, it appears that these cards do NOT work in, at least the 60/76 series of GPSs. Rick
  12. I guess as long as it works you are OK. I do wonder what they mean by "bulk"? It seems like a good price though. Rick
  13. Be thankful. When the CS(x) series was first released the limit was only about 1000! This gives me hope that it can be upped again. Rick
  14. Both worked fine. Using a Mac with Safari. Rick
  15. Like night and day!! I once did a 10K hike in a forest and was using a Legend, which managed to "register" about 4.5K of the hike. I went to a 60 CSx early this year, and haven't lost a signal (other than in a tunnel) since. Rick
  16. That's why I know about the problem....... I happen to have a Subaru SVX! It requires a special outside mounted unit. Rick
  17. I'll bet your new windshield is impregnated or coated with something that is blocking the signal. Some vehicles also have problems with the "EZPass" method of road toll payment and require an outside unit. You might want to check with your dealer and see what they can tell you. Rick
  18. I have (unfortunately) had to do that TWICE and it has worked both times. When I did it I didn't turn anything (computer or GPS) off. I'd sure try a manual reload before going through the trouble of sending the unit back. Rick
  19. Has anyone checked with Garmin to see when (or if) they are going to up the 2025 segment limit? I know they have already upped it once from 1000+. And now with the 2 GB card, it would be nice........ Rick
  20. The update (2.60) gave the SiRF chip a new 'WAAS ALMANAC' so it knew how to access the WAAS correction. Before it was just "looking everywhere blindly" so to say. I don't know whats wrong with your accuracy, perhaps you are in a more dense tree cover or in a car where you weren't before when testing? I know I get much better accuracy than I used to. Actually I have also noticed (in the same areas) that after updating to the 2.60 SW I don't pick up the satellites as fast or hold them as well. I'm not saying that I've had any drops, but most of the time the strength bars aren't as high, and I've had satellites near the horizon with hollow bars with the satellite blinking, something I didn't have with 2.50, or whatever the previous version was. Rick
  21. Wats wrong with an uktra II card? Just wondering. They are supposedly high speed cards made for cameras and other applications. But for some reason they are not compatible with GPS. There have been reports on multiple GPS type sites of them failing in GPSs. It appears getting one is like throwing your money away. The other card limit right now is Garmin has imposed a download limit of 2025 map segments, no matter what their size. Rick
  22. I was out with my 60 CSx all weekend and noticed that I saw the same "larger" EPE that you see with the 2.60 update. It also seems that my 60 is now both slower picking up satellites and the signal received isn't as strong, with the satellites near the horizon having hollow bars. This was something I don't remember prior to the 2.60 update. Makes me wonder when 2.70 will be out to restore sensitivity. Don't get me wrong, I was in some deep woods Sunday and never lost a signal, but the bars were lower. I did periodically get a WAAS signal. Rick
  23. The C(S)x came onto the market early this year. It was announced late last year. Rick
  24. I believe the firmware limit is 2025 segments, at least on the 60/76 series. Rick
  25. From what I've seen on the different lists the Sandisk 1GB cards work just fine, I know mine does. The Sandisk Ultra II series which is their high speed card DOES NOT work with GPS units, or at least the 60/76 series. I haven't seen anything to indicate that is is a card batch problem. Rick
