  1. I would like to see Mystery Caches have their Icon. They are so different then Challenge Caches .
  2. I let a log stand with a picture. I also put pencils into all my caches if they fit.
  3. I don't intend to put my phone number on the cache listing only on the cache itself so am not going to get a lot of calls. These are Gadget caches so finding them is not a problem, the puzzle is in opening them. What I want to do is put an additional hint on the cache page saying that it's OK to call using the number on the cache. The cache in question has been found by both those who needed help and by those who didn't. No one is required to contact me so far about 1/3 have. I just want to let seekers know that it's OK to call,
  4. I am wondering if it's OK to offer additional hints on cache where I am the CO? I have been thinking of adding a line to the cache page under the hint such as "feel free to contact me if you need another hint". I have a number of Gadget caches and my goal is for cachers to find them and enjoy the puzzles involved to open them I want them to succeed. I use an official Geocaching sticker on each cache that has a space for contact information where I have placed my phone number. I've had several finders and one Muggle call me when they couldn't figure it out. I ask them what they have tried and them give them a hint such as "look for another knob, lever etc". What do you think? Is it OK to add the contact me line to the cache page?
  5. Don't live in Yuma but have cached there a couple of times and the area has a ton of good caches thanks to the Mega event held there in the spring, except this year. The only precaution is the same with any desert area. Don't stick your hands in anywhere you can't see, tip over rocks, boards etc. with a stick and tip it from the far edge towards you, Be careful picking up cache containers.
  6. First Thank you to everyone who responded. The discussion here has done what I hoped it would. It has made me rethink this and I have what I believe will work. I am going to make the cache a Multi with the puzzle attribute where you will go to the various stations and get not only the combination to the security lock but also the final coordinates of the cache. In this way it should archive what I want it to. Mainly a tour of a great park and security for the gadget cache. Since all the stages will be virtual they should not limit placement of future caches. This whole thing started out with the desire to place another Gadget Cache that will blend in with the purpose of the park and at the same time make finders aware that this is a Gadget and not your normal traditional cache. I will never list a Gadget cache as a traditional as it's not fair for finders to show up and have to spend up to an hour that I believe will be necessary to solve the final puzzle.
  7. Definitely will ask the reviewer for their input and will definitely follow the reviewers opinion as that is the one that counts. Signing the log will require no research but you have to solve a puzzle.
  8. Yes there is a lot to solve at the final stage and I am planning on including the Field Puzzle attribute. To maybe clarify, the reason I have a question is that on every other multi I have found only the first stage coordinates are listed while here, all stages and the final coordinates will be listed.
  9. I am in the process of putting out a new Gadget Cache and am wondering on whether it should be a Multi or a Mystery cache. I am very much aware of the discussion of whether a Gadget cache should be a Mystery or a Traditional and Mystery is my choice, and had listed my other Gadget Caches as Mystery. The new cache will have the coordinates of the Gadget in the listing, however it will have a security cover over the puzzle part. To open the cover you must enter a combination into the lock. To get the combination you must visit various virtual items in the park. The coordinates for these items will be in the listing. All will be close to the Gadget well within 528 feet. I did consider just listing the combination in the cache write up but since there are several interesting items in the park which are worth visiting I feel that it would be better to involve them in the find. I am leaning to Multi but would like some input.
  10. This is one of the best. Also loved "Barney Smith Toilet Seat Museum and View Care'"
  11. Same for me. Just recently went out to find a cache I'd DNFed twice. Stepped over it 2 or 3 time before my caching partner found it. Anyway Welcome
  12. These are why I prefer the mystery listing. The down side is that using mystery may limit the number of finders.
  13. I agree and my Gadget Caches are listed as mystery with the field puzzle element they also contain "Gadget" in the title. I live near several power trails and don't want someone who is on a numbers run to not know what they are getting in to. Also my gadget caches take a lot of time to build and a lot more money then my regular caches and don't want to upset anyone who might then take a shortcut to open them. Yes I know who WVTim is and he is awesome.
  14. At one of my very early finds I was following the arrow cross country, not on a trail and almost stepped on a large diamond back rattler. Stopped and waited a minute till the snake moved on then went on to the find. When out checking on one of my hides there was a small rattler under the cache. Ended up moving the cache to a better spot. I put the following on my hides. Caution!! As with any desert Cache, NEVER put your hands in or under any rocks or containers that you can't see fully. Always turn over rocks with a stick before picking them up. Things that like to bit and sting love to hide and wait just for you! .
  15. No answer to my emails, not surprised, so deleted bogus finds.
  16. Checking my hides SkeetSkeetSkeet has logged four of my caches. Checking the logs there aren't any signatures nor were there any logs for the date of SkeetSkeetSkeet claimed the finds. Sent an email to SkeetSkeetSkeet for each cache asking for an explanation (this is my normal practice) and will delete these finds in 5 days. Interesting that 2 of these caches are off by themselves and require around an hour to get to.
  17. Take a look at the "Necropolis of Britannia Manor III, GC2B034. While it listed as a "?" cache it could be a multi as it involves multiple stages to reach the final.
  18. Been there many times in my submarine.
  19. I had a log on one of my cahes stating they had found it with another cacher about 5 years before, I emailed the other cacher who responded that his son was logging all of the finds that where made with his father. Needless to say I let the new (old) log stand.
  20. If you put the caches you don't want on your ignore list they won't show. This takes time but only have to do it once, Another way is to make a list of the caches you want, again takes time but gives a nice clean list
  21. I award FPs to caches that I enjoy the most or are unique in some way. When they first came out I went back and awarded FPs to caches I already had found. It feels good when one is awarded to one of my hides and I feel the % is a better way then total number
  22. There used to be (50 years ago) a phone on a tree near Nevada Falls in Yosemite NP. It was a real phone miles from anywhere with the number Nevada Falls #1. If you picked it up you got the operator and better yet if you dialed the operator from down in the valley you could be connected to Nevada Falls #1. We did this a couple of times and hikers would pick it up. It was put there by the NP and is not there anymore.
