  1. Are we supposed to be competing? I guess I missed the posting on the prizes for most finds..........OK, seriously, why should we care if they log their own caches or not? I do this for the challenge, both mental and physical, and the thought never crossed my mind that it should be competitive.
  2. Too bad GS is not running vBulletin, then you could have it both ways. You could still lock your own, but not be able to override anything the MOD's do. I also like the hover feature in vBulletin, which GS doesn't have.
  3. While ICE may be the going thing overseas, I can almost guarantee that it doesn't get used here in the states. First off, most departments have never heard of it. Secondly, if we grab anything for ID at an accident scene, it will probably be a purse, and we drop it off at the hospital with the patient. We don't spend precious minutes at the scene looking for and going through cell phones, we stabilize and transport as soon as possible. Maybe, if the phone is in your pocket, the hospital can use it to locate family. As far as the GPSr, I can almost assure you that it won't be looked at unless you're a body recovery, then LEO's might look at it during their investigation. I'm not saying that ICE is a bad idea in any way, it's just that it's not utilized here. Any ID is better than none, though, so go ahead and put the info in, just don't count on it being used or rely on it as your only method of ID.
  4. I came up with 27 5/5's in Teajs When I tried your link, I got this message from Groundspeak "Sorry, your account does not own this Pocket Query."
  5. Adjustable livestock Sho-Stik. They adjust from 29" to 50", and are perfect for pulling ammo cans from their hidey holes. They're only ~$15, freight included at Valley Vet.
  6. This kind of thing became known as a "password cache" and were classified by TPTB as very naughty indeed. That would be too simple of a solution, and some people here would have nothing to gripe about if it was implemented. One of the other caching sites does this, and like it or not, it eliminates false finders.
  7. I can't imagine using a hollowed out bolt and hope I never come across one. I may be in the minority, but to my thinking, a hollowed out bolt is just wrong. So now I have to start jiggling all the bolts when I am on location . I noticed that you're caching in my general vicinity, so I thought I'd give you a heads up. I know of at least two hollowed out bolts within 30 miles of my home coords. Just thought you might like to know....LOL.
  8. Your only concern will be how to hook it up to your computer. Lots of newer systems do not have serial ports, so you may have to get a USB to serial adapter. I know I did. It's not a big deal, you can get them from Newegg.com for ~$15, but it's just something to consider. As far as XP itself, it works fine.
  9. In addition to most of the stuff listed above, I also carry a collapsible livestock show stick. The hooked end is great for reaching into holes to retrieve ammo cans and the like, just in case Mr. No-shoulders has taken up residence with the cache.
  10. Thanks for the response, and after further research, I believe you're right. I did find that I could download individual .gpx files and load them into GSAK, and it would give me all the logs. I've started doing this, and just overwriting the individual waypoints from my PQ, thereby giving me all the logs on specific caches that I'm interested in. This is probably the best way, since it will be specific to my wants rather than loading 100 logs on easy park and grabs where the logs wouldn't be that helpful. Thanks again for the response.
  11. I have a related question. I'm running GSAK and cachemate, premium member, and I can't figure out how to get all the logs in my PQ. I'm only getting 5 everytime I run it. I've looked and looked, but I can't figure out how to ask for all of them when running the PQ. I've checked GSAK's settings, and it's set to No Limits on the logs to show, however all that ever shows is 5. Any ideas?
  12. Amen....it's crap like this that discourages people from playing. We don't need laws, and we don't need somebody to write a book of stinkin' rules. Use common sense, have fun, and ignore the folks trying to tell you how to play your game. To paraphrase Eric Cartman, "S**** you guys, I'm going caching."
  13. This is what I carry...it's not as sturdy as a true hiking staff, but it's great for poking around in holes, it's lightweight, plus the hook is great for lifting ammo boxes with..... http://www.hotshotproducts.com/showstiks.htm
  14. While being a premium member definitely has it's advantages (I'm going premium as soon as I get my PDA for paperless caching), this is not entirely accurate. You can use EasyGPS and do the same thing using .loc files, you just have to make sure and edit each waypoint, changing the symbol to the closed treasure chest. I also own the Legend C, and this works for me.
  15. I don't know why you all are doubting this guy....we all know cops and medics wouldn't BS anybody, especially each other....LOLOL.
  16. I tried that, and got nada..... I guess you get what you pay for, and that's exactly what it's worth...tech support that's non-existent sure doesn't encourage anybody to buy the expert version, though...
  17. Yes, you can. I own one, and I bought it through amazon.com. I'm sure they're available through other dealers as well.
  18. I ran into a problem with it tonight too......I downloaded 2.0 thinking it would be an upgrade, therefore better. It may very well be better, but I can't get it to connect to my GPSr. I have a eTrex Legend C, and it was working perfectly with version 1.3.7. This new version shows support for the new Garmins and a few others as well, but it keeps saying that there's not a GPSr connected to the USB port. I've uninstalled it, re-installed it, changed my settings back and forth between the Legend C and the Map60CS, but still no luck. My unit shows up as connected in Device Manager (Win98SE), and it connected perfectly to Garmin's website when I checked to make sure I had the latest firmware installed (I did). It seems like the only thing I can't connect to is EasyGPS. I hate this, because I really, really like the software. Would anybody happen to have a copy of version 1.3.7 laying around?
  19. FF/EMT/HazMat Tech for 20 years and still going. I'm also an instructor at the local fire academy. It gets in your blood, and you can't see yourself ever doing anything else.....
  20. I know I'm new at this, but after reading some of these responses, I think some people are taking this waaaaay too seriously. Am I missing something? Is there a Grand Prize for the most confirmed finds? Do bragging rights really mean that much? Who cares whether they log this as a find or not, and why would you care? I'm just getting started, but I'm doing this for the love of the hunt, and I'm gonna log my finds for my own personal satisfaction, not to please others. If you're cheating at this, it's just like cheating at solitare...who are you defeating, and what are you winning? I'm a certified diver, and have been for many years. I have several hundred logged dives. I log them for my use and for my education, because I assure you I learn something everytime I jump in. I also log them to remember the neat things I've seen, and the great places I've been. I have to laugh at the ones who are logging them like they're in a race, because they're missing the real point of logging them in the first place. I look at this the same way. The fun of doing this is in the journey, not the destination. Enjoy your trip and quit worrying about whether someone else actually found the cache or is a cybercacher. If they're not finding them, it's their loss. Just my 2¢...........[/rant]
