  1. Yes I did find it odd. I also found it odd that they were willing to delete his find just on the "feeling" he hadn't actually been there rather than physically checking the book themselves. And I find it odd that someone who has such a liberal attitude on illegal drug use can be so legalistic in their geocaching style. I guess I might find out how it feels to have my log deleted since I posted proof that RamJetta signed the book. But the sun will still come up in the morning.
  2. The "Bank of Ganja " thing is actually a sticker attached to the inside of the ammocan. I agree that the 420 names are not exactly in the spirit of a family sport, but to each his own I guess. Our kids see the same references everywhere else in society, at least in these situations we are able to discuss it with them when they ask what it means. Still would be nice if they left it out though, and might give the authorities the wrong impression of geocaching if they stumbled upon one. All that and the log deletion threat aside... it was a fun and challenging cache. They can't be all that bad
  3. I visited this cache today and can verify that RamJetta did indeed sign the log. I enjoyed this cache very much, it took me to an area I see almost every day on my way to the office in the mornig but had never hiked yet. here is the photographic evidence of Ramjetta's visit:
  4. I haven't done this cache yet but it's on my todo list. It's on the Flagstaff urban trail system and would entail a pretty good walk to get to it without trespassing or risking your life parking on I-40 and bushwacking to it. These caches that force you to get out of your car for awhile and smell the roses are my favorite kind, and the placement of this one is clever since it looks so close and yet is so far away. I'm guessing they want part of the challenge to be figuring out where the trailheads are that will get you to this cache. I think the cache owner is being a little nitpicky in this case, but it won't stop me from hunting is in the future.
  5. Why is Snoopy trying to squeeze the life out of poor little Woodstock in this picture?
  6. Flagstaff is in CO Admin's jurisdiction... Maybe we should ask him for a ruling?
  7. That's just crazy! I wonder what that cache owner is smoking?
  8. Enduro boots have a lug type soul like a hiking boot, but unless they've changed a lot in the 25+ years since i was a dirt biking fool, I wouldn't want to walk very far in a pair. They are designed to be very stiff to prevent ankle injuries. I remember mine would wear blisters on my feet and and I'd wait til the last minute to put them on before I went on a ride. Here's a link to a pair I found on the web. Click Me
  9. I'm by no means a tree hugger, but having grown up in the Moab area of S.E. Utah, I'm very familiar with the damage that can be done to cryptobiotic soils. If you walk across a cryptobiotic crust your footprints will literally remain for years. If your're hiking in areas where these crusts grow, you should make every effort to avoid walking on them. It's actually pretty interesting stuff to look at. Here's a link with pictures. Cryptobiotic crust
  10. You might try ebay.com. I just picked up a factory refurbed Handspring Visor Neo with 8mb of ram for about $50 including shipping. I've seen nice palm devices go for less on ebay, but I needed a Handspring with sprigboard port to put my old GPS Companion module back in service for a backup gps. Do a search on ebay for palm, handspring or sony clie and you'll get a ton of hits.
  11. If the libraries will let you plug your CF card reader in you could use these websites. http://www.resize2mail.com/ http://www.spinwave.com/crunchers.html http://www.animated.gifs.btinternet.co.uk/crunch/crunch.htm
  12. Here is an excellent tutorial on the Spinner/Plucker method of putting cache pages on your palm. CYBret's paperless geocaching

  14. I've been playing with JPluck http://jpluck.sourceforge.net/ and it seems to convert the files much quicker than the plucker desktop for me.
  15. I carry a machete, but only as protection against any rogue whooping cranes I might encounter on the trail.

  17. Oops! I forgot an important one. This one gives you a great view of the west fork of Oak Creek Canyon. Harding Point
  18. Here's a few off Hwy 89a between Flagstaff and Sedona above the rim. Soldiers Trail Griffith Cache Kelly Canyon Cache Somewhere Cache Oak Creek Viewpoint All those would be at around 7000 ft elevation. If you do a search for 86001 zip code you'll bring up a lot of other Flagstaff area high altitude caches that aren't far from the Oak Creek Canyon area. Hope this helps
  19. What part of AZ will you be visiting?

  21. 20 feet ain't bad, sounds like everything is working fine. After you do a couple you'll start to get a knack for seeing the likley hiding places. Where would the fun be if the GPS zeroed out on top of the cache every time?
