  1. the cabelas tip really helped me out saved me about 30 bucks because I was buying one and when i found this i jumped on it its already here! now I can start what I hope is a very steep learning curve thank you
  2. If you see it anywhere for this price again sing out because I have checked both costco and cabela's and it is 249 at costco and 349 at cabela's, sure hate I missed that sale.
  3. it may end up being the stc because i have not found the s for 199. If i get the stc at rei i can always wait for the s to drop back to 199...hmm
  4. I shopping for one that will give the biggest bang for the buck and saw the post on the 62s but when i pull up cabela's it list the s for 349. If you could have 62sct for 249 would it be worth the extra 50 bucks? REI has the stc for 249 but I have not found the s for 199.
  5. Is the detail on the maps available on gps file depot as detailed as i can get
  6. I know this is probably an old topic but I have exhausted myself using search engines. What is my best bet and value for detailed maps of the southeast US for my 60csx?
  7. Hey Robert, I appreciate your reply. This certainly simplifies things and that is just what I need. I knew some Lipes back in Memphis years ago.
  8. But to get things to work, don't I have to buy and load windows for Mac? Man, I do not want to do that and it seems that if I do not, that there is little that I can do to regain my previous usage of GSAK and pocket quieries.
  9. I have a 400t and a macbook pro(about 2years old). All I know is that when I need a software program that I do not currently have to hook these two up. Any Mac users out there wiling to take it slow with me and help walk me through what I need to do in order to get back to caching? I have been pretty frustrated with my conversion from PC to Mac but clearly like Mac better. I just need to know what program I need to get going with paperless and take full advantage of my 400t. I really appreciate your patience and walk through on the steps I need to take to get going. Thanks
  10. Is it compatible with MAC? Man I have all but give up trying to geocache with the mac and my 400t that I am just before taking back because it seems to be such a mystery in getting my mac and 400t married up.
  11. As stated above, you can get the GPX files by directly downloading them from the individual cache page or by getting Pocket Queries emailed to you and opening the file attached to the email. You must be a Premium Member, though, in order to get them. Your forum profile is showing that you are a Premium Member, however, your profile page on Geocaching.com shows that you are a basic member. I have been a Premium Member. Do you have to pay fees every year? Still struggling to open up all my track logs with RoadTrip. That is the only program I have to open my gps and I only get waypoints and still have not figured out how to load information on the microSD card that I put in the unit. I guess I will call Garmin tomorrow and see if they have any suggestions. Anybody that has a clue please chime in.
  12. If you do not use pocket queries can you still get gpx files? If so how? all I saw was the loc files
  13. Ok, I have read everything known to man and cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. New 400t Oregon Loaded MapInstall and MapManager for Mac, also RoadTrip for Mac plug in Oregon and get a Garmin folder on my desktop with a No Name folder(I think this one is the unit) try to get in those folders and search around hoping to find a clue that this is the gps unit and it is a no go, only get the typical Mac finder type window showing Where To Go and Garmin. Tried to download caches from here to my unit be checking the boxes of selected caches and then clicking download. That seem to work ok but no communication with the unit or any indication of the gps unit trying to take on those caches. What am I missing?
  14. I am confused I have successfully updated the software to version 2.80 but have been unable to find the Mac version of the beta 2.97 If I did a successful software update with the Garmin Webupdater do I have all of the most recent updates included in beta 2.97
  15. I am confused I have successfully updated the software to version 2.80 but have been unable to find the Mac version of the beta 2.97 If I did a successful software update with the Garmin Webupdater do I have all of the most recent updates included in beta 2.97
  16. Are these beta things something I will be able to do with just a connection. I will be using a macbook pro and have been wondering what the heck do you do if you don't get software with the machine? I am living in the days of my Legend and confess that I am behind when it comes to the new gps models, but I am apprehensive about being able to use the unit with the macbook. So no software comes with the unit and my computer will recognize it when I plug in the usb?
  17. OK, I just downloaded that map and installed it fine. If you want to make it work, do the following: 1. the download is a .tgz compressed file. double click it to unarchive it. 2. double click the resulting mti_tn.gmapi file and it will launch MapManager where you can then install the map for use on you computer. 3. open MapInstall to send the map to your GPS. 4. The map doesn't work with BaseCamp as it doesn't contain DEM info, download RoadTrip to manage waypoints, routes and tracks. Hope this helps. Coggins, Thank you very much for your reply. I have done what you stated. Do you have to have the gps plugged into the computer to view these maps? I am unable to launch any viewable program with the computer itself even after successful installations and unarchiving. Is this normal?
  18. Same here. What kind of "mapping" are you going to do? That could lead you to a 60CSx instead. I have 122 acres of woods, ridgetops and trailways that I am anxious to create as detailed as map as would be practical to do. I have had a legend but am unfamiliar with the latest and greatest generation of gps units. I have read and read til I am exhausted. I love geocaching with the kids but have a slightly higher priortiy on the property but still would love to kill this thing with one whack and get the best overall unit without sacrificing too much on either the mapping or geocaching. To complicate things a bit further, I use a macbook pro and that seems to be a whole new issue in itself. I have been trying to download the appropriate software and maps off of gpsfilesdepot but have been unable to open anything with mapmanager. Wish there were a class I could go to. Oh well, still reading and trying to decide, I appreciate all of your input, it is helping.
  19. Alright, I have Mapmanager loaded and successfully installed as well as Tennessee state topo maps from gpsfilesdepot. Anybody know why the mapmanager will not open this file?
  20. Barrikady, Thank you very much for your information. What software do I need to download and run the program I am referring to that include free maps from gpsfiles?
  21. OK, I successfully downloaded and installed Mapmanager and basecamp off of the above link. I also downloaded and installed the 24k maps from gpsfilesdepot(I think that is right) and thinking I had the right software downloaded to open it I clicked away but nothing is happening. This is after downloading and having successful installations of everything. Am I missing some software?
  22. so if I download these programs and then download say, a state map from gpsfiles, then I will be able to open that map program and use it? sorry for the basic questions but it seems a lot has changed since I purchased a legend several years ago and simply loaded the provided disk into the PC. Now that I have Mac I am trying to figure out exactly how to ultilize the 24k state topo maps and what software I need to load in order to do so.
  23. either one have any advantage when it comes to downloading maps and making maps of a given area?
  24. I can get either one but I want something with the best map capability and mapping ability while not compromising reception too much. I have searched and read about the 60csx and it's awesome reception but I am not sure of other differences. I am just trying to get the best I can since the rei price is so good. Thanks
  25. I guess what I meant to ask was if I buy an Oregon 400t will it come with what I need or will I have to buy some type of mac software in addition to whatever it comes with? I have searched high and low for information that would make sense on the product description but cannot seem to figure this one out.
