    Multi-dippers

Everyone talks about how quickly caches tend to go from nice little trade items to junk as people trade down... well, I have noticed quite a few logs with multi-dippers. You know, some of the first people to hit the cache when it still is nicely stocked with the original items that the cache placer was kind enough to put in... the logs look something like "oh what a wonderful cache! stocked with great items! I took the sig item of the hider, the limited sig item for the cache, and another really nice thing that I couldn't keep my hands off of. Left 2 McCrappy toys and a pen that is out of ink. Thanks!" Grrrr...
  6. Now where did I put those old coordinates....
  7. Anyone else get kinda annoyed when they read logs in a new cache (that has been nicely stocked) and see people taking multiple items out and leaving lesser items? Sure, if there are multiple cache finders, everyone can trade, but unless its a travel bug and another item leave some of the new stuff for the next finders!
  8. quote:Originally posted by TriCityGuy:I like it when they write, "I'm cute, horny, and am at the following coordinates for whoever gets here first." Ummm... the topic was what do you like to read, not what would you like to read. If this is actually something you read in a log, where do you do your geocaching???
  9. Yeah! Doctor I, stop sitting on that spike!
  10. Darn, I'll be out of town that weekend... to a state park no less.
  11. An extra $0.26/coin can add up to quite a bit if you buy a large quantity... that's $26 if you want 100 coins! I vote NO on the serialization. Just buy an engrving tool and add your own numbers
  12. quote:Originally posted by sparklehorse:Something's mighty fishy here! Because he found that cache way back in August of _2 0 0 1_! Confused in PDX. Hmmm.... I guess Oregone didn't want to risk having a No Find while showing off for the nice reporter
  13. quote:Originally posted by Seth!:And I don't mean leave it in a geocache. I guess if I was on the ball, I'd have gone hunting for one earlier. (Do they sell OR papers in WA? Do they charge sales tax on them?) ! http://www.geocachingwa.org Hehehehe... do you think Oregone and Explosis will be using signed copies of the article as signature items?
  14. quote:Originally posted by logscaler:One Other thing, Would making these Beaver Boards into virtuals be okay ? Some of them are in really poor cache hiding planting spots. Not that I want to do all that but I could put out about a dozen sitting right here at the computer. Including Numbers and answers ! logscaler. Cool! Then we can log finds without leaving the computer or the pain of having to pull out the GPSr
  15. Lived the first 17.5 years in my life in the same little town of Taos, New Mexico. Finally left the state to go to college in Phoenix, AZ for two years. Headed east to continue edumacation in Worcester, MA and spent 5 years there. Went back to AZ for two more years (one of grad school, one working for my present employer), then moved up here and been here for the last 10 years. Hoping never to leave, other than trips to see family or to Ireland Both dogs and two of three cats are natives though!
  16. I was wondering when this would come around again. I'm still interested in going in on a bunch of these.
  17. Wouldn't it suck if you spent all that time making your plundered cache "tombstone" just to have it plundered? I just hope that people are responsible with their archived caches and regularly go check to see that the marker is still out there!
  18. What ever happened to all the weekly (or bi-weekly?) Golden Spike events? It seems like after a few BIG events, people are hesitant to have a Golden Spike gathering unless its an epic. The last it has been heard from it is in the hands of Dr. I. If he waits until the cache he has been hinting at, it won't be back in circulation until spring!
  19. quote:Originally posted by LindaLu:Now if only people would respect Christians for what they are and not what they'd like them to be... It would be good to consider that there are those of us who don't use expletives and would prefer not to read them in the forums. If this group was in person (the whole group, not just part), I would hope that people would use some restraint. Now some are going to call me a "narrow-minded prig" I suppose, but it's funny how "being tolerant" never seems to apply to being tolerant of Christians and others with value systems different than your own. Instead, Christians are made fun of and called names. Where did all this come from? Before I go off and cry about the 2000 years of Christians being persecuted (you know, just for being themselves with things like the Inquisition and witch burnings), I'd like to point out the hypocritcal nature of the above statements... You are asking others to change the way they conduct conversations as a way to be "tolerant" of someone else who may not want to hear or read it? With that kind of thinking, no one would be speaking for fear that someone may not want to hear it. It is also completely backwards to what tolerance is. You may be getting it confused with 'consideration.' So, if there is something that you don't want to see, don't look at it. If there is something that you don't want to read, don't read it. If there is something you don't want to hear, dont' listen. But especially don't expect others who don't have the same "value system" as you to change who they are to suit you. And when they don't, don't think that they are the ones being intolerant.
  20. quote:Originally posted by Misguided One:Just today I heard a story about a couple who had been married for 3 weeks. The guy calls his wife at work and says that their dog just bit him, and that he was going to kill the dog. The woman rushes home, when she opens the door she finds the dog lying on the floor with some pretty severe wounds. Then she turns around and sees her husband, near death, lying on the floor in a pool of blood. The guy had apparently been beating off the attacking dog with the stock of his LOADED rifle, when the gun went off. The man died, but the dog was OK. This sounds suspiciously like an urban legend. Did you hear this from a friend of a friend? [This message was edited by Boojum on January 27, 2003 at 09:38 PM.]
  21. quote:Originally posted by bazzle: quote:Originally posted by 1pilot:... it looks like they may be headed for the TB graveyard Bob G. Hmmmmm what an interesting cache idea... I can just picture that now: TravelBug Graveyard This is a unique cache only for TravelBugs. The container is a lockbox with a hole in the top just big enough to drop in most 'bugs. Once inside, the 'bug cannot be retrieved except by the cache owner, who will clean it out periodically by removing all 'bugs and puting them all in a paper bag and tossing it into a furnace. The perfect way to get rid of any TravelBugs you are sick of.
  22. quote:Originally posted by Dr. Isotope:Because of this, I had to call in a favor from some of my friends in North Korea. Dr. I -Who can you trust?- Now we know why they are restarting that reactor! Should have known it had something to do with geocaching
  23. quote:Originally posted by Gloom:Not to turn this into a political debate but, Too late. You can't give your $2.00 (oh, that's $0.02), and not expect others to do the same. Sunset Hwy has been constantly under some sort of construction since I moved here almost 10 years ago. Traffic continues to get worse, but if you look around you, most of those cars are only the drivers, and way too many of them aren't actually cars, but big trucks and SUVs. Also, I would really hate to see how much worse the traffic would be if the crowds of people that take the MAX during peak times were driving vehicles instead. Try taking the MAX sometime during rush hours, and you may appreciate how it is helping some of the traffic problems. I hope the MAX lines continue to expand so that everyone can take better advantage of it. The one improvement that I wish Tri-Met would make would be to have express trains that would only hit the major transit centers rather than stop at all stations. As for it being a waste of time, I take a bus to the MAX, then a shuttle to from MAX to work. Total time is about 40 minutes. If I drive that during rush hours, it takes about 30 minutes. With the MAX I can read and/or listen to music and not have to deal with the driving idiots. It is much more relaxing.
  24. quote:Originally posted by LaurenCat:The article that you posted actually cites the proposed tax as being 1.25 CENTS per mile. I think that a tax that encourages people to use public transportation whenever possible and think twice about the necessity of driving around in SUV's without thought shouldn't be immediatley disregarded. A cent or so a mile isn't that bad. I agree, but as Uplink said, it would be too easy to block or disable. Also, this would not necessarily make people think about not driving an SUV, as the tax would be per mile and not based on gas consumed. Higher gas taxes are much easier and less expensive to implement, and are a higher tax on those who use more gas. Deisel should be taxed at the same rate, too.
  25. Since I use a Magellan (MAP330 for the curious), I thought I'd hop over to the Magellan site and take a look at the manual. You can set the coordinates to three decimal places for minutes. In the SELECTING A COORDINATE SYSTEM section of the manual it says: Press MENU, from any screen, highlight SETUP and press ENTER. Highlight COORD SYSTEM and press ENTER. A pop-up menu will be displayed, highlight your choice and press ENTER. If a format is required for the coordinate system you have chosen, a pop-up menu will be displayed. Highlight your selection and press ENTER. LAT/LON DEG/MIN.MM DEG/MIN.MMM <--------- Here is the one! DEG/MIN/SEC The Color Trak sounds like an interesting discontinued model... it is a basic GPS, but they threw color into it. I guess it was to make those waypoint prettier
