My 8 year old is the reason I got into geocaching. I love to go hiking in the woods. He has always resisted that because we are not doing anything or really going anywhere. Now he has reason and motive to go. He has been a great help finding the caches because I'm still trying to figure out the gps!

I was planning to teach my son how to snowshoe this winter when I stumbled upon your site. Is it possible to find the caches in the winter time or will they be buried in the snow? Will the cold hurt a gps unit? Since I'm so new to this, I thought the the Garmin eTrex Legend with 8 mb looked like a decent starter model. Am I correct in my thinking here? Thanks
