  1. Maybe we need to rekindle an old flame where things were a little more subtle. I can relate to that.
  2. Among many others, I choose BrianSnat. For some reason, I can appreciate his straightforwardness. As a well seasoned cacher with many good points (even though at first I thought he was just a loudmouth), I can now relate to BrianSnat wholeheartedly. We need to respect all the veteran cachers and use the wealth of knowledge they bring to these forums. Criminal, RK, SepticTank are others who have an uncanny ability to turn things upside down in a good way, as well. I hope to learn more in the near future from the veteran cachers, and am in hopes that I may reach their caliber someday. Please forgive me if I have left someone out, but as I'm posting, I feel like the Scooby Doo cartoon where Scooby is all out of sorts and the cartoon depicts him (actually 3 or 4 of him trying to run in each direction with his tail(s) tied in knots. *Returning with an edit* How can I forget UMC with all the help he gave me off the GC.com forums. And ESPECIALLY Team 360. Man, this is a really cool person whom I've chatted with on numerous occasions. (BTW 360, no one has EVER claimed the winner....maybe you need to recheck your tips, LOL!).
  3. Speaking of hiking staffs, my mother purchased one for me at a "Renaissance Festival", which was held in Charlotte, NC. It is a "lodgepole burned", as I assume that is the name or style of the staff. It measures approximately 51 1/2", and weighs roughly 10 to 12 ounces. It is really sturdy considering it's light weight, and very conforming to the hand regardless where you hold it. My mother never would tell me how much she spent for it, so I'm asking you all instead of inquiring at the place of origin. I'm curious how much this item put her back. All in all, it is a beautiful piece, and it is a jewel on those "specific" hikes. Here is the address and phone number just in case someone wants to find out more (I'm in hopes this doesn't run into a conflict with the ones sold on GC.com, if so, my apologies). Staffs by Gust P.O. 4. Old Geocachers never die, they learn to really appreciate their hiking staff.
  5. lessenergy Posted on: Dec 24 2003, 10:17 AM Replies: 43 Views: 584 Hey, I am still not saying that I agree with the Moderation. Far from it. What I am saying is that they are decent people who are doing what they think is right. And they volunteer. So, agree with their decisions or not, just give them a break for a couple of days so they don't have to worry about it. They deserve that and our thanks as well. Les. Forum: Geocaching Topics · Post Preview: #751869 <snip> Hey, that yas my first snip! YAY!!! Anyway, Les... What's it gonna be? Are you with the moderators or not? Surely to goodness you haven't been that badly mistreated since the latter part of December. If you have, the Kleenex tissue is better than Puffs. My conscience would surely be gouging me profusely if I were the starter of this thread. Glad I'm not, and hope I get this post through before it gets canned. OUCH! BTW....For the moderators: You shouldn't reply anything to this post in your defense, since it only adds to the trouble. Might put the ol Master Lock on it, eh? *Returning with an edit* That snip was just one of several that Les paid in defense to the mods during that time. No poke to you Les, but what gives?
  6. Considering all the spendy trade items within the cache container, I would definately make it as difficult as possible. You will soon find that even though quite unfortunate, all your neato items will eventually move on and less valuable items will remain. This is why the higher difficulty rating should come into play. Only more dedicated and devoted cachers will hunt for this one, and in turn you will find they will also be the ones who trade evenly if not trade up.
  7. As I have been FTF a few times, sure it is nice to get there first. But it isn't a real concern, though. What is really discouraging is hunting for a cache endlessly, soon to be a FTF only to find out that it is missing ... ...and see that it was found later that day 550 FEET AWAY from your looking spot. Bug spray:$3.00 New hiking stick:$50.00 Realizing that you had a bad grid, since you were one digit off on you cords and leaving the cache descrip in the truck on a 1/1..... Priceless!
  8. Retro logging is fine. My mom and I ran into the same situation, as she was only showing up having 15 finds, when actually, she had as many as me. She didn't take that too well. Now she's right up there.
  9. WB roadster! Happy New year. They all are floating around here somewhere amidst the crazy things that happen on this site. I'm not as a frequent user as I used to be, but most of the users you mentioned have a post or three , but brdad? I may be sadly mistaken, but I haven't seen a post of his in awhile. Like I said, though.... Haven't been playing in here a whole lot lately, just skim and skam, only stopping by the highlights and add my blabbering.
  10. "To gain access upstairs to see the virtual, you must say the magic word."
  11. Happy New Year to all, though I'm a little late. This is the first time I had to ring in the new year away from home since I had to work the owl shift, as you can see my post is 9:07 am EST. We didn't have it too bad at work last night, but as the old saying goes, (something to the effect) "The ones you are with bringing in the new year will be the ones you will be with the rest of the year." Looks like a tough work schedule ahead! . It makes the wifey happy, since she likes to spend the overtime money! Later all! O1
  12. First of all, I just skimmed through a couple of posts, and did not thoroughly read all. Second, I really hate the fact that I am one of many who thumbs through the topics in hopes of seeing another flame thread erupting and eagerly await to post. *Can you take it all away? Can you take it all away? When you shoved it in my face? Explain it again to me. Everything's so blurry.* Oops! had to detangle that "Blurry" song, cause some reference can be made here. I once fought with the law and the law won, as a classic example speaks truth. I then phoned my mother in hopes for bail, as any son would do. Her reply was, "You made your bed, now lie in it." Back on the rails that empower that massive reality train: A reputation can go two ways: one that you want to keep or one that you want to hide. I am torn between both, but I now "try" to put prudential acts before hasty decisions. Believe me it's really hard to do. I have received a couple of nasty emails concerning a topic or two, but the one most memorable was quite bothersome, as the sender knows as well as I do that it was not warranted at all. BTW that certain user knows exactly who YOU are, but I'm not at justice to smash your credibility in public, since it was respectful of you in the first place to gnaw on me privately. Of course, Sir User, I didn't reply to you because your remarks deserved no merit, therefore I left you alone. Your actions reflect your character, and I would assume that we all would like to be "respectable" to a certain extent in the eyes of our peers. Here's where we get the nasty warning percent and all the hoopla that encircles it, not to mention the personal bashes and all that, whether on the forums or pm's and emails. Jeez! This is a FORUM!!! I can deal with it. Can YOU?
  13. For instance, a cacher loses a GPSr in the woods. What kind of damage is expected if it is finally found a year later or longer? Most units are watertight to a certain extent, but my worry comes from the battery comartment. For instance the batteries corrode and that acid reaks havoc on any material that it comes in contact with-especially plastic. I lost a GPS unit over a year ago, but made a couple attempts to try to retreive the unit, but to no avail. My buddy suggested we try his metal detector, but we haven't hit each other on the right time to pursue this endeavor. I know the unit is still there and I'd love to find it, but what condition would it be in? Let's hear the comments. BTW it was a simple Magellan 310.
  14. Thanks for the poke, Keystone we needed that. And I have learned something from the forum wars, not necessarily found any good as of yet: No matter who you are or what you do, an attacker is surely to prey upon you and gnaw and tear at your post because that is what they do best. I find it amusing how these people act, and yet there is no hope for this type of character. I take it back the fact there is no good in forum wars. There is something good. ENTERTAINMENT! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! Let's hear some more. I'm eagerly awaiting.
  15. So what are you posting BS for then? My post was in reference to new topics, as I only added to one and DID NOT start one. And for the bs, there's plenty more on here other than mine. I may post once every month or so, as others post ten or fifteen times a day, and yet I get attacked for my single post. How lovely!
  16. I've not really found any good in the forum wars, but I do get pure satisfaction and enjoyment watching children play on their mommy and daddy's computer. Keep up the good work. I now only check the forums to see what kind of penny ante crapola is going to pop up next as a new topic. It keeps me coming back for some odd reason . The ratings are high in my book.
  17. I made one out of a lip balm container with the screw lid. It was quite small inside, with only room to cut circles out of paper approximately a half inch in diameter and stack them within the container. Small, but not quite as those previously mentioned. Those are too cool.
  18. O.K. We draw names in our family for Christmas. Each person specifies what they would like for their present. I chose "unique" geocache items. The family knows (and some are) geocachers, so it is an overwhelming sport to say the least, and I'm sure I will get some good trade items. That's my reply, anyway.
  19. I'm sorry, but I couldn't help myself here. I couldn't wait until the latter part of December to post, but I am anyway. I was among the few who took the moderation supplement as part of a "cleansing" act and disagreed with the process. I acted in a way (even though quite helpful to a theory that needs no recognition whatsoever) that really ruined a decent and likable reputation I once had. Well, almost likable, gimme some room for error-heh! I overstepped my boundaries and even though at the time I thought it was in best interest, I can look back now and see that it was not in fact in best interest for all, but just for myself, even though quite helpful. Call me whatever, but I just recently watched a movie and I find myself trying to find a calm to the situation at hand. In all reality I am open minded and see truth and sincerity in all people. Like the old saying goes, "Like an a**hole we all have an opinion". Well, yes in fact we all do, and that's expressed and it is one of our rights. But let's not exploit that folks. We are simply on a board that accepts the fact that we have that choice and it is at TBTB's option to control what is acceptable or not, hence this is THEIR playground anyway. How hard is that to fathom? Not at all for me. I can see progress in the future on the forums. We need to look inside ourselves and ask why we have succumbed to the downfall of late. Downfall? Yup. Look at the encircling problems that surround the boards. What a shame. For the rebels that seem to push the envelope, listen: FUTILE EFFORT! Give it a rest. Cut off my darn e. OOOOhhh! Criminal for President!!!!
  20. The problem will NEVER be resolved. If you are a rebel, you will never see the results you are looking for. If you are a MOD, you will never gain complete control. If you are a simple user and want peace, you will never see it. We are dealing with implimistic people (we all are) with idealist attitudes, and the great lady holding the balance while blindfolded will eventually throw away her balance and say, "The heck with this, I've had enough!" As we all have in some way or another. I'm impressed by, no, I'm entertained by the actions here on the forums of late. Eagerly awaiting the outcome. This potato salad would be a great item to sling. I guess I will refrain from posting anymore for let's say a month while keeping tabs on the fun that still hasn't changed since the *uprising*. Hee Hee! Happy Thanksgiving to all> Talk to you maybe sometime next month.
  21. Sometimes you just can't argue the point. ***** You are right, J5. Finally we agree on something. I'm just not going to push the envelope as hard, though. If you finally prevail, I will say "Hey I was with J5 all along."
  22. Yeah, what he said. But also, as the poll count prevailed--Isn't it the hunt that makes us happy?
  23. For all who persist, this is a moot point. The moderators have been strategically placed (even though I believe criminal and RK should have some clout as well ), and the mods will continue to act and perform as they have been advised. Whatever complaint or disagreement you have will have no effect on how this board is controlled as of yet, and we all have to deal with it. Remember in school, when you disobeyed the rules , you receive your punishment regardless, since the authority is always right whether they were or not. Anarchy never prevails, it just makes the situation worse. We are just schoolchildren, and the teachers behold the holy paddle (brick). Of all the bs, I've spread my share, and I now see it is no use. Easssy big fellas.
  24. O.K. I'll take a bite. It's hard to be politically correct anywhere, much less on the forum board. I've layed low for awhile now, but still peek in now and then. I see the adversity now as I did then, and that's expected. Moderation is fine. I will say good job to the mods for their role. With the wide array of people and their opinions, it's obvious that you cannot please everyone at the same time regardless of what you say or what you do. I can see now that it can be a pain in the @ss for a moderator to TRY to be PC, since they have to be fair and impartial, and provide guidelines to us all. That's hard to do when it [seems] for instance unfair to me or you and not the other guy. Of course, not making reference to anyone on the board, I'm sure it has happend to us all at one time or another. Suck it up and widen those shoulders. Surely whatever qualm we have will get better as long as we don't make it harder on ourselves. That's why when we do run astray and things don't go as planned, the mods step in. Fine with me.
  25. Thanks for the input on this one, you all. I wasn't sure how this was possible, and I may have prematurely assumed a bogus find. Yeah, Curmudgeon, like you stated in the email, he may be *retro* logging, and that's fine with me.
