  1. Geocaching.... A sport? I guess. A game? Yes. A hobby? Anyway, the list goes on and on. I was wondering (probably already questioned on previous forums) what different states, even countries we fellow geocachers have had the pleasure of visiting while on "the hunt"? My brother is on a state rack up while I'm just roaming the mountains here at home. More states, even countries would be great. You all give me some totals.....Thanks... Love the forums!!

  4. You mean to mention in the log that it is a retro log??? Or post it like it actually happened on that date??? Forgive me, doubled back two shifts, brain not functioning properly

  7. My mother and wife enjoy geocaching almost as much as I do. We all hit the trails one by one (me in the lead with the GPS), and find cache after cache. Although I mention their nicknames in the log book and on the cache find page, pointing out that they left/took items, they both basically have been "riding my coattails" for the fact that I take the credit for the finds. They both have actual usernames, and I plan to let them log their own in the future, but how do I (or can I) implement their names on the ones we've found together in the past--since April?? Do I log a "found it" at the formentioned date of the finds, or just let it be and start their first find the next one we/they find???
  8. I work underground in the coal mines. That morning, our boss had just came from the phone (directly linked to the outside). He was erratic and such, anxiously explaining what had happened moments earlier. We all stopped what we were doing trying to settle the boss down and try to understand it all. It weighed on my mind the rest of the shift, but the magnatude really hit me when we finally came out to daylight and our Superintendent had a T.V. there in the office watching the whole events of the day. My heart sank. How sick I was, not knowing in full detail what others were seeing the whole time I was underground trying to imagine what it was. My thoughts were WAY off, believe me. If I had my preference, I would have stayed underground. God bless America. That's what I felt then and every day since. We'll be O.K.
  9. WOW!!! YOU GO LIL OTTER!!!! Didn't know otters were that thorough!!! I'll keep my mouth shut...

  11. As the formentioned forum topics, such as "What is your favorite part of the hunt, etc." Many concluded that the actual find is the gravy, as others said the hunt was their favorite. My post stated that my fav. part was that others took my goodies after I left them, so, if I found yours, I'd be glad to sign the logbook and leave a few goodies, unless this was not to your liking. Then, I'd leave nothing and take your log book. Just kidding. Memories and your John Henry are fine with me..
  12. Two roads diverged in a wood quote: Isn't it "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood and sorry I could not travel both, long I stood....." Just playin!! no offense

  14. Just as others told me in previous forum suggestions, yes, this is a great idea. My brother (I'm sure he hates me bringing him up) mentioned this a few months back, whether he hid one swinging from a tree or found one, either is great and adds a new twist. I'm taking my blinders off now and really looking to shake things up. Problem is, brainstorming is not one of my best qualities. I'm still looking for more clever ideas and such, but put them all in a basket and I still love them all the same BAR NONE!

  16. I'll take a stab at this one. First of all, the only reason I say too commercial is the way you described it. You are bringing in cachers to enjoy, I know. Also, it helps business (stores , restaurants). Funny, that sounds commercial, doesn't it?? But I've got to say, I believe it would be o.k. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours kinda thing. I've never really noticed until now, but I have hidden one similar to your dilemma and it in fact helps their business, as well found a few that I've even bought items at their stands and such. I say go for it, as long as you are concerned with the welfare of the cachers more than helping business. Don't know what to say about the discount in the cache. That might be pushing it....
  17. First I'm addicted to geocaching. Then I'm addicted to finding a cache. Followed by that, I'm addicted to hiding a cache. Now it seems I'm addicted to these darn forum questions. I recall reading the mathematical calculations somebody posted (posts, logs, finds I believe). Now I see how it goes. Anyhew, I am partial to leaving exceptional goodies in the cache, and watching for days who got MY stuff. My avid geocache brother enlightened me on if I like my stuff to be gotten, then do the travel bug thing. Yessss. Thats right, my next post will be an addiction to bugs. Is there some kind of rehab or something????
  18. Fun? Definately. Legal? I doubt it. Maybe not criminal (no pun intended) though. I wouldn't bring geocaching into these areas for the risk of others having their a** chewed off by dobermans or shot at like some outlaw rogue. Personally, I like the challenge and risk, but really couldn't even consider allowing my four year old daughter along as she has my other jaunts. Signed the guestbook as well. Definately a fresh idea... And I got your email.. I touched up on it and replied back.... Verrry interesting!!
  19. O.K. I live in an area that is home of a handful of local geocachers. There are many beautiful and scenic hotspots to hide a cache. The problem is the fact that all the hotspots have almost been taken and MAN! How I love hiding as well as finding! I know it wouldn't be in good taste to hide one every ten feet, but I would, just for the fun it brings. I travel some, but my cache hides are here in the area, as well as several from the other locals. I also want other geocachers to come to my area and enjoy the beauty here in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. The facts are plain and simple: I've got the hiding fever and don't want to hide one in every tree or behind every rock in five counties. I believe I'm addicted. Tell me!!
  20. READ CHEAT BEFORE HUNTING??? Ah c'mon, what fun is this??? I always take the cheat with me and if I have problems, then I decypher the clue. Had to do it a couple of times when I got poor satellite reception. To each his own, I guess>>
  21. Yes, a cacher can hide one at a place that charges a fee as long as the cache hider explains it in the description..... I've done it, no problems yet
  22. O.K. I have just seen this topic was discussed in earlier forums under different circumstances... I read the logs and further concluded that I should let it be and stop being paranoid, I guess.. Thanks anyway
  23. I know it speaks of containers supposed to be clear in appearance and all, but in my earlier times of hiding a cache, a couple of my containers are black buckets with lids. Then I was discussing this topic with my brother, also an avid geocacher, and many disturbing topics arose..... Some lunatic may find the cache and place something of harm in these buckets (I'm not going into detail, in fear of giving someone an idea) and creating a real problem. I've since hidden mine in clear containers. As the buckets originally contained a lot of items (some bulky), I cannot find a suitable clear container to replace them. God forbid I have given any ideas. This is a real enjoyable "game" that my whole family loves, especially my four year old daughter and I would hate to ruin it for everyone and especially her. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.. Opey One
