Geocache Finders Info Sheet
The Three Harrell's replied to The Three Harrell's's topic in How do I...?
Thank you so much! -
Hey everyone, I need a little help. I am doing some much needed maintenance on my families cache. We started this one in 2011 and it is still going strong. I had an info sheet in the cache from day 1, and if you can believe it it is still there and not in horrible shape, but I want to replace it. I can't seem to find the sheet on the site, any help would be greatly appreciated. I will print it off and have one laminated again, seems to last that way. Thanks again.

Garmin Etrex
The Three Harrell's replied to The Three Harrell's's topic in GPS technology and devices
Thanks gitchie, I appreciate the help. It has the cord with it so maybe I can download some. -
Hello all, after my Magellan Explorist just quit working I was on the search for a new device with a pretty tight budget. I ended up picking up the Garmin Etrex for $40, I think this was a ok deal. It is the original and I am wondering how I would load caches to it. Can someone tell me if this will work? Thanks.

Thanks Peorie Bill for the information. I swapped out batteries two times with fresh ones and got nothing. I still thought maybe it was the batteries so I put in rechargeables that I use every day in a gaming system and I know they are good, not the batteries. I cannot get the computer to even see the GPS as it will not come on. I am going to contact Magellan. Thanks so much for the help, I will keep you posted. Scott -

No one has any idea? Thanks anyway. -
Hello all, I recently got back into geocaching after taking about a year off. I put out a geo coin and a TB and they were both taken about a week after I put them out. I made contact with the person and they were supposed to put them back or move them on, the two have been lost every since. That really made me made and I stopped. I just recently wanted to get back into it and I went to fire up the Magellan Explorist GC and it will not come on, just a black screen. I tried different batteries, hooking up to the PC, reset button but nothing works. It was never abused and was only used a little. Any thoughts on what is wrong? Thanks in advance. Scott

Sorry everyone, in my excitement to show you all I forgot there was already a thread, please accept my apologies.

I just received my wooden coins in the mail today, I think they turned out great! If anyone wants to trade for other wooden coins let me know. I will be using these as a signature item but thought I would trade a few if anyone is interested. Thanks, Scott.

Welcome! I started with my family about a month ago. My wife and daughter are not as in to it as I am but we do go together some times. I opted for the family team name, one account, one email, it just works better for us even though I do most of the caching alone. Either way you want to go will work, good luck. Scott

Sorry guys, yes the decals/labels came from Groundspeak and they have a spot on there asking for a waypoint and so does the log books from Groundspeak. I thought this would be the coordinates but just making sure. Thanks.
-
This may seem really dumb but I want to make sure before I mark on the label. We are getting ready to hide our first one and can you tell me if I am right? Waypoint would be the GPS coordinates for the cache, correct?

Magellan Explorist GC
The Three Harrell's replied to The Three Harrell's's topic in GPS technology and devices
Ok, I think I get it now. When I record a field note in the field I bring it home and plug the unit to the pc. At this time the unit moves the newgeocaches.txt or geocaches.txt to the pc where I can upload them to www.geocaching.com. Once I do that I go back to my pc and delete the newgeocaches.txt or geocaches.txt....Is this right? I just deleted all of my field notes today but it could have been worse. Let me know if I am right, thank you so much for your help. Scott -

I have nothing in the geocache file now except what looks like the 4 pocket querries I have ran. Any suggestions now, I read the same things you did on the hints but I was afraid to start deleting for this reason. I really appreciate the help and if you can think of anything please let me know. Thanks. Scott -

Help with GPS coordinates
The Three Harrell's replied to The Three Harrell's's topic in GPS technology and devices
Woops, yep......im a dummy. I guess I am giving away the answer to the first one. There are 3 stages in this park and I am really stuck on the second one because I cannot find the answer to start all of the math. I wanted to make sure my math was correct and I was adding the coordinates right, yes at 40 I understand math but I have never done much with coordiantes so I wanted to make sure I was on the right path. The first one that I posted is pretty easy so all of the answers are there for you on the web page you just have to do the math. I hope I dont upset anyone, my mistake, sorry. Thanks for the help. Scott -
I am trying to figure out something and I think I have it but I wanted to make sure that I am doing it right. Can someone please check my math below so I am not wandering through the woods lost? Bear and Ragged has answered my quesiton. I removed the question because I was giving away information in reference this cache. Thanks Bear and Ragged.

Finding a group of geocache's
The Three Harrell's replied to The Three Harrell's's topic in General geocaching topics
Thanks everyone! I am making progeress now. Do any of you know if I download one of the already put together bookmark lists to my GPS (Magelan Explorist GC) is there any way to keep that list seperate on the gps, like in a seperate folder? This series looks pretty tuff, gonna have to travel around a bit. Thanks for the help. Scott -
Hello all, I stumbled upon a special geocaching event put on by The Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail group. It states on thier information pages that I can get all of the coordinates here on geocaching.com. I did a search on the site here and i am unable to locate anything. Is there a way to do a special search? It says that there are 40 cache's in reference this event. Anyone have any idea how I can get them to come up here? Thanks. Scott
-
How are they trackable here? If you buy from www.coinsandpins.com do they come with a tracking number on them already? Does this site recognize them? Thanks. Scott

I have read the directions and I do not understand. Can someone walk me through this please. How do I delete field notes that I have already recorded? I go out Friday and find 10 come home and download to PC. Saturday I go find 10 more and download to PC but it comes up with 20 then in the field notes section. Every time I have to delete the ones I already have. Any help is a greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott.
