garmin maps - download vs dvd vs microsd
The Old Fogies replied to Sike43's topic in GPS technology and devices
I just bought the "24k topo southeast" and the City Nav for a 62s. I choose the DVD, because I like to see the maps at home and on the Laptop when traveling. The downloads and SD cards do not allow this. -
I have a BB Tour and the compass serems to work OK. I have had it for about two weeks. Last weekend I downloaded the cacheberry to try it out. So far I'm happy with both. I launched the compass from the cacheberry app. I found the cache OK. The only thing that I found was the updates on the compass were solwer th, on the Gramin, but it's a phone.

New To This And Need Some Help.
The Old Fogies replied to bigdog2005's topic in GPS technology and devices
Garmin 60CS and think that it works great. The are other that are good at a cheaper price, but we use ours for other things beside caching. I've also have started trying the paperless route also. I found this site very helpful. http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/paperless.html -
South Carolina Legislation Meeting
The Old Fogies replied to TinSparrow's topic in General geocaching topics
They now have a Treasure Hunt started in Charleston that you have to pay for your clues. Then travel all over the city to be the first to answer the clues and get $10,000. Would this not be worst than a few Geocachers walking around looking for a clue? -
Semper Questio is right on. just make sure that you have the .gpx format highligted at the bottom on the Pocker Query page. The Old Fogies

There were a few minor things at first, but Garmin has fixed all that I was aware of. I got the 60cs because of the compass. I find that it helps when you get close and there a many possible hidding places. The compass will point you in the right direction even when you are standing still. I'm very happy with mine. My son got the 76cs, which is a little bigger, but it has 115 megs for maps. The 60 only has 56 megs for maps. I can get all of SC, close to 1/2 of NC and Vir loaded. That would be my only draw back. Charleston Sc (g'pa Alex Caches)
The Old Fogies replied to GRANPA ALEX's topic in South and Southeast
Hi Grandpa I will be emailing you comments about your caches in North Charleston. I hope they will be received in the matter they were intended. Happy Hunting The Old Fogies -
I got my 60 CS when they first came out. I have not been disappointed. The compass helps locating a cache when you get in the area. I don't use the compass all of the time, only when having problems finding the cache. You really need to get the City Select and load it to get the full use of the Auto Routing. I'm well pleased with mine. The Old Fogies, Bobby

I have found that you can download your waypoint to a file. Then using Easymps export them to your Mapsource program. It will change all the waypoints to GEOCACHE icons. Then you you can upload the GPSr using the USB cable. It's easy and fast. Bobby

60cs And Easygps And Gsak
The Old Fogies replied to Andy and Robin's topic in GPS technology and devices
That's the easyest way I found to load waypoints into the GPS. It works fast and is easy. -
There are many in the area. One that we liked for the view was Oyster Beach "GCA26A ". There are some good one located at Huntington Beach State Park. Also Brookgreen Gardens has some mutli's that have you looking for art works. Enjoy your stay.

What Else Do You Do With Your Gps
The Old Fogies replied to Deckyon's topic in GPS technology and devices
I had been using my "12" a long time before Geocaching. We used it to mark fishing holes. Also use it shrimping to find our way around the creeks at night. -

I like the idea of using E-mail. That way you can make a comment and not offend anyone. Remember we're all just trying to have FUN. -
Calling All Moving Cache Hunters.
The Old Fogies replied to CoyoteRed's topic in General geocaching topics
The only moving cache that we have found was "Where Did It Go?" in Poinsett State Park. I thought that it was a fun one to do. I can see were you could spent alot of time looking for something that was not there. We go camping and look for caches in the area. Someone could find it and move the cache in the time we leave and get to look for the cache. -
That was down right dirty. Waiting is hard enough.
