  1. Good to see you back again - I was only wondering last week where you had gone.
  2. Congratulations Des and Bren on your 1900th find - and a great cache to do it on too
  3. A big congratulations to Izzy and the Lizard King on finding their 500th cache and for choosing one of ours for their milestone Great going Izzy and Paul - here's to your next 500
  4. Thanks for all the kind thoughts everyone. We've had a great time getting to 2000 and have loved every minute of it. LOL - we tried to have a weekend off last weekend but it got to midday on Saturday and I was getting a bad dose of cabin fever and as the weather was so nice I could not resist a quick trip out. Ended up with 14 finds in the afternoon and some great walking with fab views . I don't think there is much hope for us as we're totally addicted. We're mentioned on today's podcast too Wow - we're very humbled to think that someone has been inspired by us . I store them all in iPhoto on my Mac, all sorted by cache name, date etc etc (the software does the last bits automatically). It's all then backed up to external drives and other Mac's in the house overnight just in case. I'd suggest doing something like this or using an online photo service like Flickr. I know what you mean - he hates it when we look at his early caching pictures as he thinks he's a baby. You can see his hair getting longer and longer by the cache - he's a real rocker (chip off the old block there) and won't allow anything other than a tidy-up at the barbers . Anyone know if Deego is still updating his UK records page as we've broken a couple of records with our 2000 find?
  5. They stretch from the middle of Banbury all the way south to just north of Oxford so a 25-30 mile stretch (guessing here). There is usually 0.3 miles or more between each one so it all adds up to a long walk. You have to add on some allowance for getting to the start of them as quite a few are not near any handy parking location - we did something like 3.5 miles to bag the 4 near Banbury at the weekend as we thought we'd found a sneaky shortcut to them but had not bargained with bridges being locked in the up position. The scenery is lovely though and if it's dry it's an enjoyable walk.
  6. We did the 4 nearest to Banbury and the 6 from Route Canal 7 south over the weekend and they were ok - nice dry towpath and the water was low. Long walks but very enjoyable ones. From what I reall, Route Canal A-E are the muddiest ones we did but that was a good few months ago so I'm not sure what they are like at the moment.
  7. Congratulations Lee & Co (Rosie's Rangers) on 900 finds! Not long to go to the big 1000 now
  8. Just in the middle of devising a new cache and we have a draft cache page done with premium members only set but the active box is not yet ticked. I've asked one of the reviewers to comment on whether it would get published and I see their visits from minutes ago being logged on the audit trail. So it looks like it still gets logged, unless there is a TPTB option to remove reviewer visit logs restrospectvely.
  9. I'm pretty sure they were when our last cache got published on 17 March but I've just checked the audit log for that one and the reviewer has gone from the list.
  10. This is what happened at the Mega event we went to in California recently. As you arrived you had to queue up to sign the event logbook. In this you had to put your team name and number of people attanding. It did help that Brian from Groundspeak was there so could declare the event a Mega event with the minimum of fuss as he could see it all with his own eyes. From what I understand, he logged onto his account from the event (they had 6-8 internet kiosks for people to use) and changed the event type there and then. An event of that size will naturally draw in people from all over so even if that was a requirement, it's one that would naturally happen anyway. As for the facilities, this one was in a very modern, large church hall. They had big round tables set out all over the main floor with lots of seats. They had free pizza and soft drinks for all (paid for by the event sponsors - some coin companies). They had Podcacher broadcasting live from a booth and a sound system and HUGE projector showing pictures of people caching and tutorials. There were lots of other great ideas like a social competition where you had to answer a number of questions e.g. name a team here at the event with under 100 finds, name a team with over 1000 finds. This was great as it got people talking to people they might not have otherwise talked to and really helped shyer cacher's mix. There was a massive raffle with tons of cleverly camo'd containers and lots of coins (donated by the sponsors) to win. Also lots of other things to keep people amused.
  11. We've got our fastest 1000 down to 207 days now (last time I checked)
  12. Just reading the other forums and I see someone is claiming they spotted the tree at the far end of the lake and mentions "2 geocachers". I'd agree this was the most likely hiding place for the Isis out of all the ones we found and would be pretty sure this is where it was as it matches all the clues, including the swamp / bog.
  13. Doh! We were looking for a box not a card. I'd guess we probably missed it anyway as it was logged as a find so quickly. I know what you mean about the bug - I'm the same
  14. Does it say where it was hidden anywhere?
  15. Thanks - a great suggestion as I was not aware of that site yet (just starting my research, but Mrs Bolas Heathen is keen to book a hotel so need to get a feel for the best area to stay).
  16. Hi all We're going to be over in the Orlando area in the summer and intend a few days staying in the Jacksonville area caching. There's obviously a lot of caches in the area, but we'd like to hit the most cache rich areas for a few days to boost numbers and get as many finds as quickly as we can. Can someone suggest a waypoint central to the main areas for caching, assuming we do a few days getting as many numbers as possible. Thanks in advance. John
  17. Nice one Mark . It took me ages to read your log so I can only begin to imagine how long it took to type edited to correct my bad typing
  18. I'm sure I heard about one in the Lake District on an island called something like St Hilbert's Island... Sounds like the perfect one for your goal
  19. LOL - sounds like a perfectly fair rule to me too
  20. I've just remembered this extract of our log from a cache that we did ages ago:
  21. This link seems to show all the details: http://www.yosm.co.uk/GPX.gpx
  22. I wondered that too before we first did the cache so emailed the cache owner. The reply I got was "John There are 209 that can be logged. If you download the GPX file that will give you the list that can be found. They can be found at any time. I add new one to the page and the older ones end up in the GPX file. Brian"
  23. We've logged the YOSM cache several times as this is the whole idea of the cache - there is even a scoreboard encouraging you to do so (or there was last time I looked). In each case we've taken time to go and find the trigpoint in question and have posted photos of us at the trigpoint to prove our visit. It's nothing to do with boosting numbers or anything like that - it's everything to do with logging the cache in the way it was intended and playing the game in a way that suits us . This is the only cache that I know of where you are supposed to log it multiple times. edited to add that I could count on two hands the number of times we've logged the YOSM cache - if we were after numbers then we could easily find 10+ caches to log which would take a lot less time than it did to visit the handful of trigpoints we've logged for the YOSM cache
  24. Sounds exactly like the location of the Apollo from the last time I went there
